I'd say "What normals?" (sm)
I had an OM tell me that he was contemplating not paying for macros. I said, "Oh, I don't have to worry. I don't use macros, I use an expander." That was the end of that. I'm sure he had to run back to his office to try to figure out what an Expander is! LOL
You want to know "What you people do"?
Easy job? No. Good pay? Not likely unless you have 20+ years in the business and your own accounts (pleural-more than one account-in other words). Need to fill some time? Join an exercise program, knitting class, scrapbooking club, baby/Mom with nothing to do club, etc. (you get the point). Keep the engineering job. If or when you decide to become a "you people" let us know how you are "doing" it and your progress? Let us know if it fills your "void" at night when your baby is sleeping or on the weekends when the baby is with Daddy.... We'd be interested to know how you like what "us people" do once you've figured it out that is... although you have stated that you "thought" it was an easy job because you can type really fast. Good luck...
Reply to "what you said"
I read your statement and thought I don't remember posting on this thread. That could have been written
verbatium by me! Waste of money and time. Although I did feel that I had something up on everyone else when I earned the CME's, it was often times lectures by doc's on something I knew very little about, so in that respect it was a learning process for me. Most employers who state the want CMT's are unwilling to let you off work to attend a conference let alone pay for it, so it costs you PTO time and you pay for the conference out of your own pocket. My last employer (before I gave up my certification) was EDIX now Spheris. There was national convention I wanted to attend. The only way they would pay anything was if I went I could have 2 days off and only if I agreed to work their booth, so how was I supposed to get CEC's working a recruitment booth to make the company more money. It was an absolute joke.
How about a "What's for Breakfast" Post?
Coffee, gotta have coffee...that's about it lately! B O R I N G !
"What kind of friend" is right... but in many (s/m)
other respects she really can be a lovely person. The only thing we have in common really is our common participation in roller skating. But we are at opposite ends of the scale in terms of control issues. She considers herself to be quite the Queen Bee in our group, but oddly, she's the least proficient skater. Sometimes I think she gets controlling of people in order to make of for that. But she also leads a more ordered & scheduled life than most of us. If we go to events with her, it seems like everything has to be geared around HER schedule, and we always have to watch the clock. She's quite regimented, where as I and my other friend are pretty laid-back, ESPECIALLY on our days off! So more and more often, I've been passing on get-togethers at this friend's house, where everything is planned out to the minute, whereas I just want to put my feet up and chill.
It turns out the Queen Bee doesn't like my other friend because she "ignores" her. Well, that is because last year, when we were all roller skating on a vacation in Venice Beach, once again everything was by-the-clock and according to the Queen Bee's schedule, and my friend just wanted to see the sighs and enjoy the warm climate, etc. We were all going to go for a "leisurely" skate up the bike path and then have lunch. Well, the Bee took off at top speed, leaving my friend (who has the slowest skates) in the dust. So I turned back and skated slower with her. About halfway to our destination, the Bee was already headed back. "Why the big hurry?" I asked, and she said we were supposed to go to lunch with her son (breaking into the movie business) and his producer at 1:15 sharp. Well, I didn't want to hurry my other friend back, and the restaurant the Bee was planning on going to was an expensive one, not something I or my friend could really afford. So when we got back, while the Bee was off looking for her son and the producer, I asked my friend, "Okay, you're on vacation, you've never been to Southern California before, what would YOU like to do?" She wanted to re-skate the bike path again, and go for a burger on the Santa Monica Pier. So, that's what we did, and we had a grand time. I think it kind of put a burr in the Bee's britches.... but I think that served her right for being so rude. So anyway, my friend and I had a great time, rode the carousel, ate burgers & fries, and relaxed. But ever since then she has just steered clear of the Bee because she already knows she doesn't like her. I just hadn't realized the Bee was taking it so SERIOUSLY that someone would actually IGNORE her! Well, I guess she should've thought about that before treating my friend so rudely.
AND... this is actually the time that I got to know this friend... on this trip to Venice. She had been invited by Friend #3, a woman who is a friend of both mine and the Bee's. I just assumed that she would be staying with Friend #3. But instead, the Bee said, "Oh no.... Friend #3 is staying with ME! You and Friend (#2) can stay together. So we shared a room at the hotel, and in the end were glad it worked out that way, 'cause that way we could sleep in 'till 11:00, have a leisurely brunch, and show up at the beach whenever we happened to get around to it. If she'd stayed with the Bee, she'd have had to get up at 7:30, be eating breakfast at a certain time (and place), and doing everything according to the Bee's schedule.
And restaurant selection is another point where we don't see eye to eye. I prefer cheap and fast, preferably junk food! But the Bee not only has to pick the restaurant, before we even sit down, she then has to interrogate the poor waiter intensely as to what, exactly, is in EACH and every food item on the menu that she's interested in. She's so picky. We went to a place that had absolutely KILLER pizzas, and I was standing there in the sun dying of heat and hunger, while she had to know every little detail about its ingredients. I felt like saying, "Just EAT the damn pizza, okay?" But of course I didn't.
But again, in the past she has been a very good friend, but I've discovered that if you don't do everything HER way, she gets a little ticked. That in turn has caused me to lose quite a bit of respect for her. I still love her, but I don't completely RESPECT her.
Whoa! "What makes you think" post was is

Don't forget to ask...
What types of accounts you will have and whether you will have backups if your primary runs out of work. Do they pay for spaces and use of expansions or normals? Are hours flexible if you need it? Is there any charge for equipment? software? Is tech support available all the time? How soon do the bennies such as health insurance kick in? How often do you get paid and when can you expect your first paycheck? Do they give pay raises, incentives or anything else that can increase your income? What kind of training will you get until you are comfortable with the accounts? Are there a lot of ESLs?
Whether they answer any questions honestly or not you will find out when you get started. Probably best to run the company name on MTStars and see what you get. Good luck!
Will never forget

Yep, and don't forget 100% QA! LOL. Seriously, I

yes, that's what I always do, but don't forget
Frozen ham has a tendency to taste saltier, so when you use it, you probably won't need to add any salt.
and don't forget
Don't forget that before white out and all the other things, we had to use a razor blade to remove errors from ALL of the copies. I worked for a VA Hospital and everything had about 6 or 7 copies. Cut many a finger in those days, but learned how to be accurate really fast.
Forget about them and those like them and
live your life, period. I wish I could post a saying I got from Mother Theresa the other day but it does something like this:
People will hate you. Do good anyway. It was never about them, it's only about you and God. Something along those lines. And only half of these posts are nuts.
I'm sorry, but how can someone just forget...
Valentine's Day? That's like forgetting it's Christmas. It's all over the TV, in the stores, everywhere you go, there was something about Valentine's Day. I don't buy the "forgetting" thing at all...unless he lives under a rock or in a cave, he didn't forget...
Better to forget IC at 6 to 8 CPL
After you pay your taxes, it averages only 4 to 6 CPL. I would rather be an employee. Never will go IC again.
And let's not forget..............nm
Don't forget sm
you'll probably be typing headers and a bunch of junk. Not for me, but if you do it, make sure you'll get paid for it.
don't forget a
It really helps if you can have someone who is just in charge of the money. They could sit at a table and concentrate on just taking in the money. You can get really distracted when buyers want to ask you about merchandise. So much fun at the end of the day adding it all up and treating yourself to a yummy lunch!
just like me to forget something..
also must pay local tax and Soc Sec tax of 15%. Yuck!
yes, and don't forget

Oh and don't forget...
the one I came across that took it to the bathroom with him and it was still running!!! GROSS!!!!!!!
Forget it. You do not need it.

don't forget to look at
overstock.com when purchasing! I've found a couple of books there cheap, and the shipping is usually cheap, too. They do have the CD version for $42 and change right now with $1.40 shipping.
Sometimes they forget
My friend is a speech pathologist. She told me that before she met me, she never used to think of the transcriptionist. She hated dictating, but she had to do it. So she used to dictate as fast as possible just to get it over with, not thinking that someone had to figure out what she was saying. But now she makes an effort to be understood and actually acknowledges MT and will say good day and thank you.
Don't forget.....
Work is not guaranteed, no pay for downtime (or rarely), must know all specialties, be around when work is there - not necessarily what you agreed to, work over or get no work, be availabe via phone, messagers and email, oh and be an Office and Word expert cause we aren't providing any help with that...Plus, lunch is at your desk...I bet starbucks even gives you a lunch break without whining about it.
Don't forget to consider your
chair height and whether your hands are too high compared to your elbows.
Don't forget
Things like benefits, paid holidays, vacation and sick pay. Those all add to your per line rate as an employee, and you should be compensated appropriately to offset these things as an IC.
Forget it
You won't get a vacation unless you can find another IC or two who can fill in for you. Also, you will need to schedule around your doctors' vacations - at this point in my life, I don't want to work around the clock anymore and I wouldn't do it, but if you're up for it, you go girl.
Should be FORGET actually, sorry! nm

Don't forget the so ever "critical" ....sm
omission of apostrophe's now. According to them it's no longer Alzheimer's disease but Alzheimer disease. Sounds stupid as crap and makes it look like we're a bunch of idiots to type things this way.

WHAT? SO YOU WANT US TO FORGET YESTERDAY?
.
Don't forget Poophead...
Don't forget the tax deductions
Pleae keep all your receipts for hearing-aids/batteries, etc. and check with your tax preparer at year's end or before. I would think this would be deductible but worth asking about.
Forget about it. Some people only come here
to criticize others because they have nothing in their real lives to feel good about. If they have to go around telling us what we do "wrong" and how perfect they are, they have some serious self esteem issues there. Nice judgmental personality types, too.
There's a big difference between an occasional alcoholic beverage and a full-blown substance abuse problem. Unfortunately, public schools teach kids that their parents are "doing drugs" if we imbibe at all. DH and I like an occasional cold Corona with lime to wash down spicy food. Now, our kid thinks we're going to be arrested or die from "doing drugs".
Life isn't black or white, all or nothing, good or bad. There are a lot of gray areas out there. Some people on the boards need to learn that they aren't perfect enough to pass judgment on the rest of us. There's only ONE person who's fit to do that.
Okay, bye! Don't forget to take your meds on the way out!
The level of anger and frustration is actually quite sad.
Oh and before I forget, I am so glad I did not
listen to you all and panic and take him to the hospital. There was no reason for it as, come to find out, angioedema is NOT lifethreatening (very rarely is it) and only when there is difficulty breathing. Talk about a bunch of panic-ridden posters!! WOW!!!
set hours forget about it
not with kids
um because they forget to change the nm to
a simple forgetful error - no need to *vent* about it.....we all do the best we can.....
I think I could forgive..but not forget.
If either him or I cheated, the trust is gone in the marriage. I think I would forgive him (not right away) as he is the father of my kids and I will always have a relationship with him whether married or not, but I I think at that point, the marriage would be over. That's what marriage is to me, loyalty to each other. I would say he feels the same way. I can forgive anyone, it's just my nature, but I don't forget.
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!

Will never forget when I was an MT newbie
had worked about 2 weeks and got a 20-minute report by an ESL med student who stammered through the full note, then said "again" and started over THREE times! I nearly cried.

yes, and not to forget tired...we all know what
this business and its pressures do to us. For that reason alone, you'd think this would be the ONE place people understood and cut some slack.
