I saw one "fix" posted by Joe Weber in April: "The problem occurs because of changes made by Microsoft in Word 2003 compared to prior versions. If you highlight some text, then type the replacement, things go awry. However, if you press Delete first, then type the replacement, it should work fine."

I still haven't seen a full patch for 2003 posted on the Smartype tech board (on MT Daily).

BTW, Smartype does not work in Word that comes with the Works Suite.
