Per diem means "per day." nm

Per diem is on an as needed basis - not a stable job. May work 1 day a month. nm

per Diem
What exactly is per Diem?  Thanks!!!
per diem
Hello:  What is a per diem medical transcriptionist?  Is this relatively the same as an IC?  Thanks in advance for any info.
To me pe diem is ......
Per diem, or "per day," is a Latin phrase meaning specific amount of money an organization allows an individual to spend per day so it might mean like on a salary and you get paid no matter how much work you do???  But it is a specific amount of money you get paid no matter what -- now if it means you have to get 2000 lines per day no matter how  long it takes or do 200 minutes per day no matter how long it takes and you get this much for it -- need to check that out. It is almost like getting paid per report no matter how many lines are on it -- but this is just my way of thinking and could be wrong
Per diem
I am per diem for an account and it's basically I work when they need me, fortunately it's been daily!
Per diem
I have worked this way for some big companies and some were medical and some were other types of corporations. I was an employee at all and received benefits if they chose to include them; sometimes I had to work a certain amount of hours to qualify in a given pay period, sometimes they just wanted me so they gave them to me anyway to keep me from quitting. You are an employee at per diem usually, you just don't know how many hours each day you will work or how many days a week (sometimes you know the days, just not the hours or vice versa). When I transcribe per diem I have set days, like Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 hours each or 4 hours each, or whatever Sometimes the start time is fixed, sometimes it is flexible. For one I can do it from home or from the hospital. For one, I just have a certain amount of minutes to type and I know how long it takes, as does the employer and when I am done I leave. Their system is accountable and knows how long I was there, how much got typed and how much to pay me. Sometimes per diems have a guaranteed minimum salary too. That is nice. It all just depends on what you work out at your interview. One hospital I know will pay air fare, hotel fees, taxis, and a higher than usual hourly rate or line rate for a couple people to fly in when they are backlogged. They do this because those people have both worked there for a long time before they moved to other cities and they are "worth it" because they know the system, are excellent CMTs, etc. and will produce massive amounts of work in short time frames and they don't have to be proofread or whatever. I hope this is not too long! I like it that way. It is like working for Ghost Busters! We could start our own company and call it Backlog Busters!
per diem and on call in job ads
When a hospital places an ad for an "on call" transcriptionist, what exactly does that mean? Does it mean they can call you up at 3:00 a.m. to come in for an emergency report?? And per diem means you just come on for a job here and there, right? It isn't regular work?

I am sorry if these are dumb questions. I'm new. Thanks for your input.
per diem could be an employee

The per diem I am familiar with meant as needed.  For instance, if there was a vacation or if someone was ill, the per diem employee filled in.  Hope this helps.

You're defining PRN - per diem is per day. nm
.
Hire someone to work per diem or for a weekend. NM

"

it's spelled right. Exo means outside and you know what phrenic means. nm
:
No benefits either being per diem but definitely ask about the average hours per month you can....

expect to work. Most per diems are only allowed to work a certain number of hours per week.

Also, find out how much "notice" you will get for working; i.e., will they call you a day or two in advance, or call you the day they want you to work?

The bright side of per diem is that usually a hospital will hire the per diems if they are interested in a full time job before posting elsewhere. It's your foot in the door so to speak.

oil field pers a "per diem" which is a set amt of money they get to show up for work that day,

Ah yes! Me too, and I needed it!

EMR's -- we will still be needed

I work at a clinic part-time typing into EMR's as well as running my own company.  But now they are loading Stedman's spell check and work expanders onto Word so that I can type in word and then transfer the info over to the electronic chart.  I type faster in word.  They found that it is faster for the doc to dictate rather than type into the chart and not only that, insurances were questioning the "standardization" of the chart notes.   Too similar.  So I do make sure that even though I use expanders, and macros, I do make some minor changes to "standard exams" so it does not all look the same, but this is with the approval of the docs.  But they can see at least 4-6 additonal patients and dictate all the notes rather than type then and are able go home at 5 o'clock instead of 7.   Also the TAT is 48 hours and not weeks as the docs would never finish the notes.   So we will still be here just typing under a different format.

Thanks, I needed that!
:)
No, what for? Never needed it. nm
nm
thanks, but not what I needed to know
Gee, thanks for all that information. I am well aware that I could send an email, and I am well aware of how to crunch the numbers in terms of rate of pay. I was just hoping to hear from someone who already works for the company. Thanks anyway.
Thanks.. that's what I needed to know
Wasn't sure if it was something routine on every sale or if it was that the buyer backed out. I'll just let it stay there and see if I get payment! I'm hoping to get the hang of listing stuff on ebay, but it took me 2 hours to list that one item!  LOL...
yes MTs will always be needed...nm

Thanks, Jay. That's just what I needed to know. nm

I needed to know this. Thank you! (nm)
(nm)
Thanks. That is what I needed.

Sorry if that's not what you needed. sm
I reread your post. I tried to find specifics about the profile tests and couldn't find anything either.
Thanks, I needed this
I want to thank you for this post. I was feeling really down about my job with voice recognition and I know I am not out there by myself, but I really needed a good laugh about being a psychic transcriptionist. LOL.
Thanks, just want I needed to know

Because I will probably get a Dell laptop pretty soon.

Thanks again for the help

Thanks, I needed that, too.

was needed. (got cut off).
``
Thanks! I needed that.

It was much good of yous to care!  Thank you so much for pointing that out.

I don't spellcheck or audit what I type for postings on the internet.  Maybe I should?  After all, I am posting this for myself, not my employer, but you are right, I should care enough.

I think the MTs that Crabby was talking about in her post ought to care too.  I am burnt out from working 14 hours a day to make up for the $$ that I am not making because we all haven't had a raise since 1988 and I believe that MTs with poor skills are part of the reason why all MTs are not getting paid what they deserve.  Are we the only profession that has not had a cost of living raise in practically forever?

There is more needed

I have worked as an IC and employee.  For every some companies, you need WORD 2003.  I could not understand why 2007 would not work, but they swear that it would not work with eScription.  Some people told me that they spoke directly with eScription who said it would; needless to say, I had to purchase a very outdated copy from Amazon.com for about $200.  I was also told that it had to be the full version of WORD.  If you are working with eScription, I am sure that part is correct.

You will have to get a foot pedal, and I was told by last two companies that I was working for (simultaneously) that I had to have a 9-pin foot pedal with a USB adapter which is different somehow than USB alone.

If you are working from a C-Phone then you can rent this equipment from the company.  This would require the unlimited long distance.

Most require highspeed internet.

The other important thing to know is preparing for self-employment taxes.  That is the big one.

I had the hardest time finding good headphones (which you may already have) but finally found the best ever and VERY inexpensive at dictaionwarehouse .com. The salesman was great help and talked me into the less expensive set which was their best seller.  I had already planned on spending $200 for a good set and only spent $25. (Spectra-RA twin speaker headset).  They have these in digital w/USB, stereo, Dictaphone and many other types of connections.  I am now an employee for a specialty clinic and had to go back to tapes and needed mono-headphones, but I am sure the others would be great also and again VERY inexpensive, but the salesman will be honest and tell you for sure.  I just had to share this after the long drawn out hunt.

I think what she means is....

Kent State had a lot of conflict when Nixon declared war and the students were rioting.  They were vandalizing and burning property, fighting.  They called in guardsmen.  The guardsmen threw tear gas canisters into the crowd to disperse them and the crowd starting throwing them back.  The guardsmen started shooting into the crowd.  People are still not sure why they started shooting.  I think nine people were shot, 2 died or something like that.

Anway, I see the point though.  Things happen at college, does that mean you shouldnt send your kids?  And if you do, are you a bad parent and deserve to be judged?

What about the parents that send their kids to school the day of the Columbine High School shooting.  I guess they deserved it because they were there?

Please tell me what this means...
I have been trying to figure out for the last five days since I started frequenting this site...but what in the world does it mean when people put things like nm and sm in their posts?  This is driving me NUTS!!
Not sure what that means. Can you
tell me what ME in the letter from MQ mean? Thanks.
What she means is (sm)
that DocQScribe does not count the characters that you input into the demographics screen, even if you have to do it all with nothing imported. This means that characters MTs previously were paid for -- patient name, dates of service, referring physicians' names, courtesy copy names/addresses, are not compensated. If you do a lot of little reports, that will mean a HUGE decrease in line count, whereas the impact won't be so bad if you do mostly long consults. Unfortunately most companies seem to be going this way, even the very nice company I'm working for now which has me hunting through blurred PDFs of faxes to find the patient information (I'm hanging in there because it's a new account and they say they'll have the demographics imported). At MQ and DSG DQS paid for spaces; I've heard that Accuscribe does not. The "red headers" are paid for. As you say, it's simple to check your line counts using Word or MedPen's counting program.

As lovely a platform as DQS is, the overall opinion seems to be that line counts drop dramatically when using it. I don't know if that's really always true since the second day I worked for DSG I did 1500 lines, but I know that I had to leave MQ after DQS as I never was able to make the money I felt I needed. There are still a few good companies out there, but you have to really search them out.
You know what I think this means? sm
The letter says pay rates are based upon experience, skill, and work difficulty.

This leads me to believe, in conjunction with what you are saying, that our rates will be based on the above criteria. Each MT has probably been evaluated and given some rating score or something that will determine each of our "specialized new" base pay.

What I'm anxious about is the fact SE is not mentioned. I have a feeling (JUST a feeling -- since employee was the only word used) they are doing away with SE. If so, no more quarterly bonus and the IRS perks that go along with SE status. That will make me VERY sad.
does anyone know what this means...sm

When I try to log on to DQS, I get a message that states that my user profile failed to download...anyone know anything about this?

Of course, I work for MQ, and hate to call them, cause it takes forever to get an answer to a simple question, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it!

BTW, I have already logged out and in like a thousand times, plus restarted my computer, so that's not the problem.  TIA!

it means
turn around time
sm means

that's not what it means

it means that six times he performed a heterosexual act that resulted in conception, but that doesn't make him a heterosexual.

You can love Ford but still drive a Buick on occasion.

DVI- please tell me what this means

It may be the stupidest question but what does DVI mean and that I need to have a DVT-supported footpedal? Does anyone know where I can get one and how much it may cost?

Thanks!

It means don't believe everything
you read.  A bunch of overpaid suits never transcribed a day in their life.  Also they put out propaganda trying to make more money by lying.
What this means

I am required to quote my charges for contract job and they ask me to

Breakdown cost by telephone call-in to a center or audio files being sent to you.

Any one knows about it?

By all means.............sm

That would be GREAT!!!  *grins*

Contact me whenever regarding this....oh, except when I'm in VEGAS in the autumn.  *winks*

What it means is this
There are a few posters on this site that are really negative, think they know everything, and post nasty rude responses to other people's postings. Some of us call them "trolls" and sometimes we get caught up in trying to make them see how rude they are by posting back. It never works though, and we call that feeding the trolls, or keeping an argument going that does not lead to anything good. I guess we should try to ignore their rudeness, but it is hard sometimes. How's that? Did I explain it okay?
I think she means sm

TIA as in thanks in advance.

I think she means...
Oops.....new here.....lol!
do you know what EMR means?
