Antivirus 2009
You are so right...it was entirely my fault...I definitely will be more careful from now on! I downloaded the Malwarebytes antivirus and it has partially removed it, but it is still blocking my IE, not sure how to get rid of this but I will keep trying.
Thank you so much for your help.
Beware of Antivirus 2009
While working late at night, I had something pop up that I thought was a MS product called Antivirus 2009, and thinking it was an update on their security, without checking it out, I clicked ok, then at the end, it states it costs $59...and I realized that it was not MS, so I backed out of it. I currently have AVG 8.0 and it has always done a good job for me...but now after several days and asking several different places, plus the Internet, I cannot get rid of this. It seems to be tied into my Google site, the one I use so much.
Does anyone know how you get rid of it? I removed the software (or so I thought) from my program) but it is blocking Google, and just keeps popping up constantly...driving me absolutely nuts.
Does anyone know of a solution to get rid of this? I hate to pay a techie to come out to my house to get rid of this, but I will if I have to...just thought I would ask here first.
Thank you for your help.
Beware of Antivirus 2009
AVG is great and not a resource "hog' like McAfee or Norton -- I have had computer problems in the past, and have dealt with Hiwired.com -- they are inexpensive, ALL USA-based techs and great people to work with -- they understand the MT and if you need a progam completely erased and you tell them as such, they will do it -- I had a problem a couple of weeks ago with Adobe and could NOT get files to load that were in that format -- they got it cleared up and no problems but almost every "tekkie" person including them, that I have talked to has recommended AVG
FWIW, nasty is in the eye of the beholder and you have given nasty as good as you got.
Read your posts again very carefully.
You do realize it is 2009, don't you?
1979 vs 2009
First, don't get me wrong, I definitely think we should be paid more.
However, in 1979, you were likely using a typewriter, no such thing as computer and delete/backspace, no such thing as Google, no such thing as sending in reports with the push of a button, which makes things much, much quicker and efficient, which makes more typed. We should have better insurance, though.
I imagine it took at least three times longer to type a report then than it does now with computers, Google, better references, et.
1979 and 2009
I don't know what went on in 1979 because I was 10 but I do know that in 1990, the school I trained with was still using typewriters and in my first job, although they had computers, were using tapes, which we had to use a magnetic to erase. Heaven forbid that someone erased the wrong tape. Talk about a doctor being PO'd.
Quick Look 2009 will be coming
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=quick+look+drug+book+2009
This would probably be what you are looking for, but if you want 2008, the above link also has used ones that are much cheaper. I am not keen on electronic references other than Google and my spell check. I have Book of Style 2 on electronic and it's not that user friendly. I'd rather flip through a book.
For the time being, use google. Put your drug name and then the word drug after it. This is what I do.
Hope this helps...
You claim it in 2009. If you did not receive
it in 2008, it does not matter it was owed, only what you received in the calendar year.
Making less per hour in 2009 than in 2003
I have a part time job of 30 hours/week and a doctor account part time.
On my doctor account, I am paid per report and get to use a lot of templates. It is common to get 9 second dictation jobs, just fill in patient name and dates, save and close. I still make $30/hr for this.
On my other job, I am on a very user friendly platform, produce clinic work at 8 cpl, everything over the internet, and make $20/hr.
Just a few years ago, I was on a platform just a couple hours a day making about $25/hr and the rest of my time was working in a DOS environment. I never, ever worked more than 6 hours a day (sometimes less) and my 2-week check was over $1400, averaging over $26/hr.
I'm older now and have to work an extra two hours a day 5 days a week to earn the same money. It is no wonder people are leaving this industry in droves. I still have another 6 years before my youngest doesn't need daycare so I can get a job outside the home, so I need to make MT work for me, but wow am I getting tired of hitting the keyboard. I've been in front of a computer for 30 years now. Now that I have passed all my other bottom lines, I wonder how much longer I can last before I really will leave. I have always said that if I can't make $20/hr Txing then it is time to find something else to do. I know a lot of people would love to earn what I do, a lot of fresher, younger people would, and I don't mean to sound ungrateful. Just hope my body and mind last a few more years.

In 1977/78, I made 6 cpl. at a transcription company. Had full medical benefits, paid sick days, a cushy, comfortable office, and monthly CASH (like, real paper dollars!) bonuses for 'Transcriber of the Month'. Of course, back in 1977, I could fill a 20-plus gallon gas tank for just under $18-20, too.

The rest is up to whoever writes your paycheck. Happy New Year!
Anyone here using QLDB 2008? (sm)
Can you do wildcard searches for drugs if you don't know the first letter? For example, can you use *s*ax to search for "Fosamax"? I have QLDB 2005 and I have not upgraded because someone said you can no longer do wildcard searches without the first letter (which you can do in the 2005 version). If this is so, I won't upgrade because this is a feature I really need sometimes. I wonder if there are any other electronic drug references besides QLDB.
Thanks
Spyware 2008
Is anyone, or has anyone dealt with this thing? My daughter is home for Christmas and I do not know if she accidentally started this thing or not. She only goes into Facebook and MySpace, as I do. Anyway, this thing keeps popping up. My virus scan keeps blocking it. Do I have anything to worry about?
If you have your last pay stub from 2008
or know how much you made, you can file without it.
glad I could help!! Hill in 2008!!!! nm

Two 1099 for one company for 2008?
I just received a second 1099 from Lee Perfect Transcription from last year, who I quit for partial non-payment. They are for two different amounts. The second one is $50 over what I made for the year. The second one was under what I made. The two together obviously are WAY OFF. I called and they gave me an email address to write to, which I have not heard back. Did anyone else have this? Thanks.
It was already published in June 2008. nm

Why is that some are still stuck in the year 2008?? LOL

Norton Internet Security 2009 and Service Pack 2 or 3??
I am having a heck of a time! I have Windows XP and just purchased Norton Internet Security 2009 for my antivirus, as my previous version is just about to expire. Upon installing it it says I have to install Service Pack 2 or higher for it to work. I never installed SP2 because I read that many, many had problems with it. Should I go ahead and download SP3? Is there anything I need to do before installing it? I'm thinking of taking the computer to a professional and having them download SP3 and install it for me because it makes me really nervous! Anyone have any experience with this? What should I do?
Thanks!
The Sted's 2008 comes out next month. Wait

AVG Antivirus
I agree - AVG Antivirus is great - I actually have the pro version, which has a few more bells and whistles, but the free version is great too - mine runs an update every morning and scans my entire hard drive once a week and I never even notice - it also does a registry scan on startup, so you don't load anything onto your system when you turn your computer on - it's great!
Antivirus
It works great! No headaches like with Nortons. It runs and you don't even know it.
Any way to avoid it?
My parents both lost hearing with age and I have seen how isolating it is.
Is there any way to avoid that with this job? I try to keep my volume down, but they way the dictators speak, I can't help but crank the volume quite a bit.
Did enough rock & roll blasting when I was young!
Any ideas?
Here's one to avoid -
My BF picked this up to try it for his laptop. It worked great for the first few days (long enough to get past the 'money back' offer), and then it suddenly began disconnecting him up to 12 to 15 times in a 4 hour period. I'm not sure about the legalities of using these types of devices to transcribe medical reports so I never tried it, but he said it was one of the most frustrating internet situations he'd ever been through.
If you've got Cricket stations in your area and they're offering their "unlimited" broad-band service for $40/month, I'd suggest applying that $40 toward a reliable service.

Good luck to ya! Hope 2008 is the year of the transcriptionist !

Antivirus software
I used to buy my software directly on the internet, but found that AVG is free, was highly recommended by many tech guys, and I have it running on two computers in the house. Catches all of the new viruses, so I don't have to worry about spending all that money on antivirus software. Try it. Goggle it to find the free software, as it updates on a daily basis and it scans your computer any time you want it to.
perhaps your antivirus or antispam?

Antivirus programs sm
On my personal computer, I seem to have picked up some kind of virus. I keep getting popups all over the place and one of them is telling me that I have viruses and I should purchase their program to remove them, which I don't want to do because that program is likely a virus in sheep's clothing. I was running AVG (the free program) but apparently it did not stop whatever bug I picked up.
My questions are: 1. If I purchase an antivirus program (from Walmart or Staples, for example), will this remove whatever has already taken up residence on my PC?
2. What is the best virus program for the money on the market?
Thanks in advance!
antivirus for vista
Thanks for your input!
It can be fun if you avoid the aggravation which I try to do - sm
Yes, it does bring out the worst in people...we got up to get ice cream after my 5 & 7 y/o had finished their lunch, left out drinks and my 1 bag purchase on the table, came back after maybe 5 minutes to find 2 ladies had helped themselves to our table, I was pretty pissed, but just gathered up our stuff (only 2 seats left for 3 people) and said we needed to find a place to sit, neither lady batted an eyelid or said a word. Kids asked why we didn't stay, I said I feared I wouldn't be too polite if we had stuck around since I was ticked. So we sat at the steps of the little stage area in the food court area and they had their ice cream that way. So that was the only wrinkle in the day basically. Kids had fun, we never dealt anything too horrendous, and I got a couple things accomplished without having to deal with the hardcore nut cases.
avoid refunds
Why would you want a refund? If you're getting a refund that just means you overpaid your taxes the previous year; in effect you gave the government an interest-free loan of YOUR MONEY.
Ideally you should set up your withholding so that you end up having to pay some extra taxes when you file your return (but not so much as to trigger a penalty). That way you get to hold on to your money as long as possible and can at least earn some interest by keeping it in a CD or money market account.
Do not avoid them. They are willing to work with you
because they want you to make your payment.
Read all the letters they send you some mortgage companies will point you in the right direction like using a third party to help you get caught up.
I never thought I would get hit with foreclosure but it happened to me and luckily as the poster below, my family was able to bail me out.
I still owe my family thousands because they tacked legal fees on top of what I owed and the mortgage company not only wanted what was late but also two month's mortgage in advance all in one lump sum!
Good luck...
Just want to avoid the same mistake...nm

the MT. I would not want anyone I know doing mine.
I would like to know to, so I can avoid applying
there. 3 cpl is awful.
What kind of antivirus do you use on your computer? sm
I have been using Norton AV, but my nephew (who goes to ITT Tech) says that I can just use AVG which is a free download antivirus....Im just not sure what to do. The tech guy I normally use is the one who said Norton. Anyone here use the free downloadable antiviruses or do you get better protection with the "paid" for antiviruses? Thanks.
