Agree, we are only seeing the beginning of losing so many jobs overseas to India, China, etc., etc.,

This is a sad reality.  However, our country has let this go on for years now.

And India and China can organize their own
And the big salaries of AHDT board members will go bye-bye!
India and China will undoubtedly be creating
Just as the blue collar workers in manufacturing can be replaced, in this global setting, so can the entire corporations - I give them 10 years before the enterprising businessmen in China, India (whereever US CEOs have fled to gain access to slave labor) steal the info and create their own companies and compete as they certainly would be happy with a fraction of the American CEOs income.
Used to be machinist, until all the jobs went to china. NM

Used to think we were using India, but now realize India is using us for our med. info, jobs,

Losing batter against India-Seen plenty of MT mistakes in USA!!!!!

Comparing other countries to ours, we sure have a lot of sloppy MT's too.  In the local hospital where I work, all the supervisor can say is,"Type faster, type faster." WHO CARES IF SOMEONE GETS THE WRONG LEG CUT OFF OR WHATEVER.  I WOULD NOT TAKE MY DOGGY THERE!!!!!

INDIA WILL CONTINUE LEADING US-BEEN OVERSEAS AND SEEN POVERTY!!!!!
So many of us do not know what it is like to live in poverty.  India is still divided between the rich and poor.  Consequently, that leaves the so many of the poor to work like dogs just to support themselves and their extended family members.  I am tired of everyone talking about the Indian MTs.  We need to be in their shoes also.  All and all, AMERICA IS THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE!!!!!  THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY!!!!
MTs losing jobs

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your job. One comment said that MTs are losing jobs all over the place. Could someone tell me more about this ... the loss of MT jobs. I'm new and I'm trying to decide whether to train as an MT or not. Thanks for all your help. I am soooooo undecided.

losing MT jobs

Transcription jobs are becoming very slim in Central Minnesota.  One hospital outsourced to India, and two hospitals send to a service company.  Our hospital may end up going VR which will most likely put half of us out of work too.  Either way you look at it, it is a dying profession.  Like someone said, you have to work twice as many hours to make enough money to live on - so don't talk about those poor poverty stricken people overseas.  Without jobs here, we are going to be all poverty striken as well.  How do we make a house payment and pay our taxes so they can send the money to these countries!

MTs are not the only ones losing jobs to over seas
Businesses May Move Health Care Overseas

NEW DELHI, India (AP) - Businesses and insurance companies are starting to eye the potential savings of outsourcing health care from the world's richest country to the developing world.

"It's just one of the many ways in which our world is flattening," said Arnold Milstein, chief physician at New York-based Mercer Health & Benefits, who's researching the feasibility of outsourcing medical care for three Fortune 500 corporations. "Many companies see it as a natural extension of the competition they've faced in other aspects of their business."

With an estimated 45 million uninsured Americans, some 500,000 trekked overseas last year for medical treatment, according to the National Coalition on Health Care. Asian hospitals in Thailand, India and Singapore have long been swarmed by medical tourists looking for tummy tucks and face lifts, but many glitzy, marble-floored facilities are now gaining reputations for big-ticket procedures including heart surgery, knee and back operations.

Some American hospitals already rely on places like India for X-ray readings and other diagnostics, while also importing foreign doctors and nurses. But the U.S. health care industry has been largely immune to overseas competition - just one reason behind soaring costs.

Premiums for employer-sponsored health coverage have surged 87 percent over the past six years, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, putting a huge burden on both companies and employees. Family health coverage now runs about $11,500 annually, with workers themselves forking out nearly $3,000.

But just as shipping U.S. manufacturing to China and call centers

jobs overseas
Personally, I do not worry about this. There are plenty of companies who hire MTs purely in the US. For other jobs, just you wait, there is going to be relocalization of jobs/services, etc in the coming years. I already see/read about towns relocalizing. I would never consider going abroad for any major medical procedures. I proudly support my local medical team. There is probably a reason that medical care is cheaper abroad.

With the comment made in this article about importing physicians, does anyone wonder why medical costs have skyrocketed? I am sure a good portion of these physicians have come over here to make all sorts of money versus what they could make in their country of origin. I am sure they would not have left their country of origin if they were doing well for themselves.
Overseas jobs?

Does anyone have any sources for info on overseas MT jobs?!  I have been Googling but haven't come up with a single MT position in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, or Costa Rica -- only Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Dubai.

Thanks.

Losing our jobs to voice recognition?
I do not think so and let me tell you why. I have been on the same VR platform now for the past about 5 years. For whatever reason, who only knows, in the past 3 to 4 weeks lots of things heard and spelled out correctly in the past now have to be redone, just like it has never screened these dictators before. I have no idea what causes this but not the first time I have seen this, just like you are sorta starting over like a very new program. Things that have been the same all the time now not, for example for cc mine is now putting in a persons name, when someone dictates a Mr. so and so it puts in a period instead of Mr. ?? Go figure. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I sure am not.
And you high prices take the jobs overseas
There is a happy medium, she is not an MTSO, no IC overhead, etc.  So I think that she can charge .12 and make a good living.
I totally feel the same way, but when I see more and more Escription jobs going overseas and our pay
Your best bet is going to be to work for a company who doesnt off-shore.
Outsourcing DMV story hit OC newspapers and everyone was outraged about losing jobs and private info
After the outrage regarding private information and loss of jobs concerning a California DMV sending their data entry to Mexico, this practice was stopped thanks to a radio show and media attention. We as transcriptionists have more info than DMV not to mention all the countless jobs going overseas. Where is the outrage on this when we need it?
I do agree with you, too. In the beginning
I found the posts hilarious as well. But I got rather turned off with Frankie Boy. Things got graphic and very disturbing. I think that is when everything started adding up for me.

I like when everyone sticks to a name, as well. Things get confusing! I just hope this stops with whoever is trying to ruin this board!
I am totally beginning to agree.
What other occupation that I know of can the employer get away with paying late, no benefits, and sometimes not paying at all.
India jobs and poverty
I agree with mag's post! Mag, you must live in Ohio like me. We are a very impoverished state right now, #1 in bankruptcy and #1 or close to it in foreclosures in the U.S. President Bush has DONE NOTHING for our state. . . many, many jobs have been lost. I quit doing transcription this year because like many other posters on this board, I'm not going to work for 8 cpl with over 35+ years' experience. I might as well work at Wendy's or McDonald's. At least you get the minimum wage and your food at reduced prices or free. . . . which is more than I can say for most transcription jobs. It was a struggle and a very hard decision for me to reach because I loved transcription but the money just isn't there any longer. For the few who say they make a decent living, they must type 20 hours a day to do so. The only reason these jobs are outsourced, whether to India, Pakistan or Mexico, is to SAVE MONEY! Bottom line! Money!

I just listed some items on E-Bay and made more in one week than I made in a month doing transcription. So why bother any longer?

I agree, ten years from now we will probably be a third world country.
Hmmmm. So, India doesn't want Wal-Mart, but they want OUR jobs.
nm
ProScript Documentation Services does not send work overseas or employ any overseas MTs. (nm)

I agree 200%. Thank you India!..sm
Maybe we US workers, whom you have displaced and taken food off of the table from, can do something for you some day.
I agree with you. I won't take these jobs. SM
When they have no workers but newbies, maybe they will finally get the big picture.  What an insult to expect experienced MTs to work for that piddly amount of money.
Agree - If we don't have jobs how will be buy

I don't agree w/ sending our jobs over there BUT
to me your logic makes no sense; we had the world trade center bombings here but that didn't mean that we weren't secure enough to handle transcription.....???
The MTs are still real MTs, but I agree that VR jobs -
nm
I agree, because the fact that when our jobs
sent overseas and patients' medical information is put at risk.  That should be pointed out.  Of course NO industry wants their work outsourced overseas, but I think there is even more reason to be concerned about OURS being outsourced because of the confidential nature of the records.
INDIA, INDIA, NEWBIE LOOKING FOR INDIAN-OWNED COMPANY-FORGET AMERICA COMPANIES HIRING NEWBIES!!!!
Our country sucks when it comes to teamwork.  My experience is in hospital transcription and 95% foreign dictators.  Most of my dictators are from India and surrounding countries.  Give up you all, India is already way ahead of us!
I totally agree, women's jobs pay crapola
That is what is wrong with the business. It's a woman's occupation. Men would never be treated this way or do this work. Yah i know there are 1 or 2 but...
Hey before WWII bank teller was a man's job. When the men went to war, women took the jobs and the pay went down the tubes.
We have to all stick together and I wish I could organize something. That we all just STOPPED started a sort of union and put our feet down. We are being treated very shabbily because the industry knows we want to be with our children. It's dirty and it's wrong. If we all took one week off at the same time BINGO
any thoughts?

Sadly, I agree that more and more jobs are going to go to 3rd world countries. However, that is not
:+
China?

Costco owned by China you say?

So what?  SO WHAT?????

I just left China
Actually, I just left China. Poor old souls. Not many pretty women in China.

I needed to get home to the states to see all the beautiful women. I felt like I was intoxicated when I came through the door at Medquist and saw all my beautiful gals.
Sara Lee in China?
I'm also hearing that Sara Lee, you know, cakes and pastries? Well they also have many of their products made in CHINA now!!!
yep, it's china - who will take over world by

google that subject......if you so desire....about China taking over the entire world (not in my lifetime thankfully) by 2039-2040.

I remember when I was 12 years old, a chinese restaurant in White Plains, NY, that my folks took us too all the time, was closed down because they found dog and cat bones in their trash.

LOL - in another 25 years China will be

If indeed more co. using China labor we need
x
Not the least of the borrowed $$ from China is for...sm
of course, those stimulus checks! Does that make sense to anybody? Not me in this credit-card-driven economy. This is starting to catch up with this country. Some day very soon, trust me, we are going to be owned by other countries - or just plain bankrupt and barely scratching by. My thoughts (from some research I've done) are that this will be yet another third-world country, thanks in the largest part to Bush and his wasteful spending on everything but this country or its citizens!!! Such a sad state of affairs!
dog abuse in China story
Listen . . . .what is your real posting name anyway?

My priorities are not your concern. It is a well known fact that people who abuse animals easily go on to violent behavior against people. If clubbing innocent dogs to death doesn't bother you, it should. There are much better ways to deal with a rabies problem than that. Perhaps instead of ranting about my priorities, maybe you could put your energy toward helping create a solution for the abuse of innocent childern or one of the other million problems going on in the world. What ARE YOU doing to help make the world a better place?
killing of dogs in China

Please click on the following link to help stop the killing of the dogs in China in such a horrible inhumane way.  Thank you.

thank you for the dogs in China link

We CAN make a difference - thank you.

"How to off-shore MT to China?"...
Why in the WORLD would they be involved with something in China, unless they are planning to assist them with taking MORE of our work?????  I can see it now . . . first China, then India, Pakistan...on and on.  We can pay to watch them put us out of work.  Yipee.  "American" was taken out of the name for obvious reasons.
Same here, although I won't be spending it on a trip to China
I do disagree about not being good at MT though. I think many competent MTs shoot themselves in the foot by not recognizing the value of their skills and working for less than they are worth.
Especially their interest in CHINA, of all places. -sm
Look at what's been coming out of there already - poison pet food, poison people food, badly made and dangerous children's toys, flimsy everything else, etc. They try to bend the rules on just about everything they make & export.

Imagine the quality of their medical transcription.....

[* SHUDDER! *] :/
not only that, last week 172 miners in China
and they say China will take over the world in 2039-2040.....thankfully and hopefully by then I'll be longgggggggggggggg gone....*lol*
In the beginning ........... there were NO
nationals ..........
I was beginning to think it was just me...sm

I see these kinds of questions so often.  I was beginning to think everybody worries about this junk.

I don't see any of that in the beginning.
I thought, from your post, that you were an IC who failed to understand basic economics.
In the beginning there were a lot of
bugs with Vista. Also, if what the MTSO has is compatible with their clients, why upgrade and possibly loose clients???
Walmart opened up 15 stores in CHINA....nm
x
2039/2040 is when CHINA will really control us.NM
x
just wait - in 2039 or 2040 CHINA will rule...nm

I'm beginning to wonder if that's all there is left is
crap dictation.  Most of us say we're doing the crappy dictation and ESLs.  So the good stuff is really going overseas or to VR?  Or are there people here who get the good stuff all the time, which is why they make good money and we don't?
