I have the one that goes on the floor, and two mattress topper ones. They are great. The higher one should be just fine for an elderly person. I also top mine with one of those foam mattress pads for a little extra padding, and I've had no complaints from anyone (I've slept on them too, and I find them comfortable). Hope this helps.

I have a deluxe Aerobed on top of
my box spring. I am one of the 40+% of users who sleep on them every night. Add some nice high thread count sheet and you won't go wrong.
