I've never been able to get back
a report after submitting it, and have always been forbidden to try, if I could figure out how. All changes have always gone in an addendum that somebody ELSE can try to cobble together.
Just do it. I've had to cut back my volunteering because I can't say NO
and then I get stressed out. I was the public relations rep for city-based volunteer organization, member of two other groups, PTA member, and helped do a kidney transplant fundraiser. I finished out my terms with all of them, although somebody renewed one of my memberships for me that I quit. You need to volunteer to do something YOU are passionate about. Don't let someone else pressure you into something, which it sounds like this is your choice, so GO FOR IT!!!
I've used it for several years and won't go back.
It's very easy to learn and user friendly. I won't work on anything else.
MICHELLE!! GET BACK DOWN HERE! OH NO! YOU'VE READ THEM!
Its too late, but come back down here and laugh. Don't read the ugly posts! They're not there - they are not really there - they don't exist, nor does the ugly poster!!
I've been back in college for 2 years now.
and wish you the best of luck! You can never have too much education. It opens so many more doors!
I've had a bad back for years and nothing works better...sm
for me than heat. I have a chair pad that heats and/or vibrates. I don't use the vibrator much because the noise is distracting, but the heat works wonders. Sometimes if the pain is real high around my shoulders, I just drape a heating pad over the top of my chair.....also keeps me warm and toasty in the winter time.
I've been fighting back for 30 years.
It hasn't done one bit of good. The AAMT sold us out a long time ago and when the computer came into being, it made it way too easy to ship everything offshore. At least years ago when we used a typewriter, you had to work in house. Now everything is about faster, faster TAT and hiring people as cheap as possible to get the work done. I have always said that if they could get trained monkeys to do this job and pay them in bananas, they would. They don't give a rip about the MTs and they never have.
I've tried to go back to the office a number of times and
I never can make the transition. One consideration is your wardrobe. You have to start dressing in office attire which is something I don't miss and found irritating when I went back into the office. I also found that after working at home for as long as I have done it, it's kind of stressful to get out there and try to be social and friendly. Office politics is another negative. Offices are very much like high school, very cliquey and filled with gossip. There is more to working in an office than just doing your job. At home, it's just me and my PC. I do the work and I get paid. In the office, there's you, your PC, the person who shares the desk with you, the person who sits across from you, the person who sits next to you, your supervisor right across the hall, the doctors knowing you by name and seeking you out to complain about their dictation, the constant ringing of phones, chattering of voices. The people you share office space with, one will always be hot, one will always be cold, one thinks it's too bright and there's a glare on her screen, and one thinks it's too dark. You can't wear perfume because the girl next to you is allergic...
I could go on...

It is because the US wants it handed to them. Nobody wants to work 3rd shift.
Maybe if people would work the shift, we wouldnt have to send stuff overseas to get it done overnight.

we've lost our sense of community, no more back yard fences, no more coffee klatches
It's the sense of community we miss, and there is some semblance of it here. My son has been online since age 10, and he knows the status of the marriages and pregnancies and jobs and traumas of his gameing friends, from his age on up into the 60s, male and female. They comfort each other, congratulate each other. Ranges from students to cops to medial installers to computer geeks. It's a sense of commnity that has sprung up, but that society doesn't really recognize as REAL yet, it's too new.
Your first boss really sealed your fate! You had failure handed to you at the start!
How on earth can you even believe that?? There are thousands of MTs who have worked, and full time, with small children at home. Boy, talk about an encouraging post! Doom and gloom for sure! The continued negativity of the MTs on this forum is astonishing. You don't have to spend thousands and thousands of $$ to get an education, and if she's a single Mom, she'll probably qualify for complete financial aid! And the company board the last week has been full of posts from newbie grads who are getting jobs across the board, and good ones! This business is constantly ebbing and flowing, changing, but always is a lucrative career! Come on! And the person below, fg, who is negative 24/7 calls it dog meat??? I'd like to see any comparable career where I work the minimal hours I do and make fantastic $$. And, gee, me, a lowly self-educated CMT! Doom and gloom is yours if you choose it. From your own post, your first boss set the tone for you, and you accepted it. Think POSITIVE!
Well, Pattie, think about this. All that family medical history you happily handed over? (sm)
When that information listing family medical history ends up in numerous computer databases, you've effectively hampered your child's future ability to obtain medical insurance, life insurance, and who knows what. Although they may not know anything about the identities of parents and grandparents, they sure do know what medical predisposition insurance companies may think are just too risky to sell a policy. Think about that.

Even funnier still, my mother named me Joy....so guess you can say I'm a "happy hassell"!! and a lefty at the same time; people tend to steer clear of me!!! Have a good day. Do they feature MT's?

No, this feature is not...
available in the current version. We will be adding it in the upcoming version.
Thanks,

what F9 feature? the only thing F9 does
that I am aware of is take us to screen to get line counts ??
New Search Feature (sm)
Is it possible to display the dates of the posts in the search results? If not, add to wishlist?
There is a compatibility feature
There is a compatibility feature with Vista, or so they claim. It's all in this Q&A piece in the Times here. I think you might have to register for the Times to read this link but it's got some good info

I like the Glossaries feature sm
I can make separate glossaries for each separate hospital and then it doesn't crowd the main glossary. Also, if I leave an MTSO, I can just delete that glossary without losing all my main entries.
i think yahoo has a feature like this
but I haven't used it so I don't know for sure
Yeah, I heard they have that feature now, but...
I just don't use it. I use yahoo, but very rarely. I forgot about that though.
Well the backspace feature won't work as far as I know BUT sm
I use 48x and have that expand to 48-year-old and it will expand correctly. Some people I know use 48y and set it to expand to the same thing. Not perfect but hope it helps.
Are you talking about the AutoText feature?
To create a new AutoText entry, it's ALT F3.
I don't know if there is one to open the AutoCorrect options window by default but you could always assign a hotkey/combo.
you need to use the mail merge feature or
put the addresses in your text expander, which is much easier.
Help! MS Word 'Track Changes' Feature
Hi,
Can anyone help with this? I want to use the track changes feature as I proofread reports, so the TXer can learn from their mistakes. After I send the TXer that version with the correction marks, I want to THEN REMOVE THE MARKS, so I can have a 'clean' version of the report which has all of my corrections to it, but doesn't show any red marks. As of now, I see now way to remove the marks. Thanks a lot.
Dave
Use the pass feature to move sm
past questions that are stumping you for the moment and you will get them again after you've finished the set of questions. Get a good night's sleep the night before, eat a good breakfast the morning of if you can. Know your BOS and general medical terminology and you will do fine.
Cool MT search feature
Found this awesome search engine tailor-made for MTs. Works fantastically well. Link is below.
Not with Word 2007. That feature is gone.

Maybe because Home version does not have encryption feature.

I use the Compare feature on the tools menu.

Goodness, if you didn't know about the command feature, you really need to
spend some time on the Productivity Talk board for tons of ideas.
Will this glossary transfer to the ESP feature in EXText?
I know I have emailed you before but I chose that financially I just couldn't afford a Expander right now and then I found out that there is one built into the EXText. I'm trying to build that up but as I have never used Expanders before I am at a loss as to what to put into it. Thanks.
You need to use the command feature of IT when you make your entry sm
Copy and insert your text into a new IT entry. Now go back thru the entry and each time you want a field to be placed, you have to hit the "command" button on the bottom left of the window. Then hit CTRL+F9 to create a world field (this will make the little bracket thingies when it spits out in Word). When you're all done, hit OK and there you go!
Where would this feature be located on the drop-down menu on top?
Thanks.
Help with MS Word 'Show Edits' Feature...
Hello,
I am proofreading reports as MS Word files. I want to send a version showing the corrections (in red, as MS Word does when you turn on this feature), but then I want to send the final 'clean' version, with the corrections but without showing all the changes in red, to the client. It doesn't seem that this is possible. Whenever I turn the show edit feature on, I cannot then remove the red marks later.
Thanks for help,
Dave
I just use the * and the search and find feature; seems much faster than macros to me. nm
;
If I can remember, I like to use the "autocorrection" feature in Word that adds it to AC SM
automatically. No writing anything down. I don't take my hands from the keyboard if I can help it. Sometimes I *do* have to go back and un-correct it so I can add it.
I do my work all crazy. Comes from so many years of not having spell check or anything.
Only if you're using the track changes or compare feature. Once somebody else has the document
