Its actually becoming popular!
It started locally in a Chicago ball park I think, and they had a segment on CBS news the other day about it. They cut the donut in half and use those two halves as the buns, along with bacon and cheese. Everyone they interviewed said they really liked it, even the reporter! Kind of sweet and sour cheeseburger, don't U think?
This may not be a popular opinion, but I would be
If this is a child you're talking about, I would probably err on the side of protecting the child. A call can be placed to CPS anonymously, and you won't have to risk your job. You can simply call anonymously and state that during the performance of your job, this situation presented itself. If you've ever see the consequences sexual abuse brings to a child's life, then you would know it's worth much more than a job anyway.
I think it is here to stay, but won't be quite as popular as some companies may think

The whole reasoning behind VR is to decrease cost to clients and to speed up TAT (well that and to increase revenue for MTSOs).  But, just as more and more clients are starting to find out about offshore outsourcing, the cost effectiveness may not be such an advantage.  Being on VR for several months now, it seems like even the sloppiest work is submitted for the sake of getting it out quickly.  I've found, and it has been reported here repeatedly, that those on VR are told not to "pretty it up", just make sure it's accurate.  Even the banned abbreviations on the JHACO list are allowed in favor of quick editing.  Things that never would be acceptable in straight typing are allowed in VR.  Sooner or later this is going to catch up and the money saved on VR will just switch to risk management.  What once seemed like a big money saver will end up costing them more in the long run, just like outsourcing to India.

Also, it is a proven fact that those who are very high producers in straight typing (1500 to 1600 lines a day) will most likely not make the money that new MTs or less skilled MTs will.  Those who are producing approximately 1000 to 1100 lines a day will have no problem doubling that.  With some MTSOs cutting the VR editing rates to 55% of base line count, it isn't feasible for experienced, skilled high producers to work on VR at half the base rate. Thus, a lot of skilled MTs will be moving on to companies without VR.  Without some of the tools required, VR mandates that the editors will correctly use and spell terms that would otherwise be done by expanders.  A new MT isn't going to catch the "mistakes" as quickly or as often as a highly-skilled MT with years and years under the belt. That, too, will contribute to the lower quality of finished product. As far as increased TAT, it might increase it a little but full editing isn't as quick as QA editing, so the increase in TAT isn't going to be that dramatic IMO.

I can see VR being advantageous for the quicker, easier reports such as radiology and ER, and I can see it catching on for a while.  But, I think sooner or later it will trend back to the clients wanting professionalism over quick, money-saving efforts that will end up costing them more in the long run either in risk management or outright lawsuits.

Beading and knitting are popular
right now. I've been doing both separately and in combination for longer than I care to admit but they are *in* again. Glass mosaics and polymer clay are another couple of things I've been dabbling in for a while. There are just so many options, it's hard to suggest just 1 thing. Maybe you could take her on a *date* to some of the craft stores like Joanne Fabrics or Michael's and see what she seems interested in. If she finds the right hobby to suit her personality and talent, I predict she will be totally addicted (like so many of us) so watch out! Then again, she is lucky she has you to enable her. LOL Good luck!
It's so popular, too. Everybody is naming their kid Thusnelda. nm

I wonder if local newspapers would be popular for them, and

I think acute care is more popular
I do both and as far as work I don't really favor one over the other. I get about the same lines with either one.

I've been there and done that. I had to get Labor Board. I eventually did get paid in dribs and drabs. If it's the same company, best get on it now. He's done it before and seems to lapse into the same habits about every year or so. Even so, ANY company who doesn't pay needs punishment. My guess is that the MTSO isn't going without pay and if there are, indeed, "bad" transcriptionists, the MTSO should know who he/she/they is/are and do something about it without punishing the whole crew. Good luck!
Most popular are Instant Text, Spellex, and ShortHand, I think. Visit their websites and

Uh, oh, another secret out. If you can swing it, it's a bedroom community of Denver near Arvada and Aurora and Boulder. I don't live in Denver, but live in Colorado Springs and love it. People who go to Denver frequently complain about the traffic...no place is perfect....sometimes our traffic is bad here too. If you love mountains and sunshine, this is the place for you. Good luck; hope you find what you're looking for.

Cool avatar, though.
I have a beautiful baby girl Exquisite named
We call her an Exquisite (breed) because she is a mix: Shih Tzu, Yorkie, Poodle, and Cairn Terrier.

We're also planning a family, and so recently acquired a baby Yorkie-Poo . . . I call him "Ucky" because he pees and poops all over the place (getting better), but his given name is Lucky. (I still give him lots of love, and don't think he realizes what I'm calling him . . . LOL)
Amenand then some! Where WAS Julia's mind anyway when she named those poor little critters?

Cat Lucky (saved her life & she is so ungrateful!) & Sheltie named Casey

Wasn't someone who played in the movie "As Good As It Gets" named Ardell (a male)?

RadGuy

Hey RadGuy, do you give out your email address, or do you prefer to converse thru the forum only?

Hey RadGuy, for your big sis for
Christmas, make a donation to a charity and then give her a card saying that a donation has been made in her honor.   Someone in need benefits from your donation, you get a tax write-off, and no worry about the "right" gift or even having to wrap the gift.
Hey, RadGuy
Why don't you invite the family to your house on Christmas Eve for drinks, coffee, and dessert? Just call everyone and say it's just a family get together from 7 to 9 p.m. (or whatever works).

I'm the youngest of a very large family, so I know where you're coming from, but you really have to tell your sister that you don't want to celebrate Christmas her way. Just because she was born before you doesn't mean she has the right to pull your strings. Take your life back!! Esp. since she ignores you the rest of the year - it's obvious she doesn't really care about any of you.
RadGuy
You really need a new family! What a bunch of characters. Have you considered writing a book? I thought my family was nuts, but we're boring compared to yours.

Point out to David that Jesus was not married when he died at age 33. Also ask him what Saint Paul had to say when people asked him about whether it was better to be married or stay single.

RadGuy
Funny I always sort of had this feeling you were a cat man, but then you said your sister gave you catfood cans for a gift and you did not have a cat, so it is nice to know you at least once did and my hunch was right. I love cats, I hope you got yourself another one.
RadGuy & ALL

I will sincerely be thinking of you and how your making out with your dysfunctional family  I would invite you to mine but it may not be much better but I am bound and determined to make it great because I have 3 new little foster kids that need a happy memory of Christmas, so were heading to KY to enjoy Christmas, let them be kids with the grandkids and start a new year and new life off hopefully.  They;ll be spoiled with love and that's what Christmas is all about.

To all MT's and their families, hoping for happy times, lot's of love and a great new year.

Thanks RadGuy!
After reading the thread about LimeWire, I decided to give it a try.  I downloaded it - and I am now enjoying some good tunes!  Merry Christmas!
LOL Radguy!

Oh Wow RadGuy
Thank's for the memories lol...that was 1 ex, 3 kids and before the grandbabies...made me feel younger than a day at the spa popping ibuprofen
RadGuy
I didn't read the posts, but I read the after-posts and I think he should come back under his own name, no matter what. This board is a lifesaver to me and I acknowledge all that is positive. I think anyone who is "bullied" on this board has to come back and reap the benefits of those of us who are "true professionals," we don't judge. Perhaps he should just come back for a day and see how it works. I think he'd be happy he did. Be positive, professional and pure of heart. It works.
You are SO RIGHT RadGuy!
The policies against disagreement - not talking about "trolling" here but honest and courteous disagreement - were stifling here. I am so delighted to find the instigators of automatic post banning gone - it is about time. I really hope that the new owners will not follow the same unfair and unreasonable (and sometimes very personal)patterns. I know exactly who you mean, too, RadGuy, when you mention the two who really drove this board into the ground - no decent administrator would have allowed this, not to mention participated in it wholeheartedly. And, if Admin needs any clues about who NOT to put in a position of responsibility around here, due to past bad behavior and unacceptable treatment of other responsible MTs, I'd say be very wary of those champing at the bit to "ban trolls" - these are the few who didn't exert influence on the prior administrator/moderator to ban trolls, but conspired to ban anybody they personally didn't like, regardless of how responsible the banned MTs were in following the rules of the site. I saw this happen many times over the years, and we lost a lot of lively and intelligent input on this site because of it. I guess we will have to wait to see how fair and equitable the new policies will be, but it's encouraging to know there is at least a chance now that everyone who behaves will be able to participate, instead of just the approved few.
What the heck! No RadGuy!!!!
