Acronyms

I have some docs who use acronyms and some who prefer not to shorten anything. So I have set up a system so that my shortcut for the phrase is the standard abbreviation - "svc" for "superior vena cava," for example. For SVC, I use "xsvc." It's one extra keystroke, yes, but it helps me save time in the long run, I think.

For acronyms that almost everyone uses - COPD or CABG, for example - I use the "x" for the full phrase. But there are very few that I do that way.

Also, I believe I was the person AnnieM was referring to who mentioned setting up shortcuts to capitalize commonly use terms, like all the vertebral levels - C1, C2, L3, T4, etc. Also any exam names, like MRI or CT. Anything that you use often that is always capitalized can be set up to automatically capitalize and avoid having to hit the shift key. You'd be surprised how much time that can save you.

ooh this is fun... my method for acronyms sm
I'm jumping in; hope you don't mind :-)

cad = CAD
cadd = coronary artery disease

and so forth.

However, I use Instant Text, so I'm phasing the following in...

cad (not activated through Instant Text) = CAD (in Word Autocorrect)

cad (in Instant Text) = coronary artery disease

I like both ways.

But I'm an efficiency junkie and probably spend so much time trying to BE efficient that I may very well get less work done LOL.
I use Stedman's Abbreviations, Acronyms, and
Symbols. Works nicely. I also go to www.medilexicon.com quite often. Using that website prevents me from having to stop and look it up in the book.

STFU is an acronym for "Shut The F*** Up".

PLEASE DELETE THIS.

To Pay Attention: Grow up and clean up.
What about Stedman's Abbreviations, Acronyms & Symbols, new or used?
