We go to them. Word of mouth is a big one.
There are farmers markets and roadside stands. Some of the ranchers advertise in the weekly advertisement papers, and others advertise in the daily newspaper. We also have religious sect colonies near our town, who either set up stands or go door to door. You can always drive to the colony as well to buy produce or meat. Ask the small butcher's shops or meat processing businesses where to get organic local meats.
All accounts I have are through word of mouth.
I started calling whenever an ad appeared in the newspaper for an MT. From there all accounts have been through referral. Work quality is the best reference you have.
I do insurance work as well. It came by word of mouth.
.
I also would like ideas/thoughts from people who know the best way (besides word of mouth) to get in
Which are best of the following are best?
Paper brochure hand delivered or mailed, postcards, direct door-to-door, phone calls, etc.?
I too have an account of my own and would like another one or two small ones. I think one account of 100 mailers is good and have no problem with that. I'm just wanting to know which route is best.
Thanks so much!
absolutely agree
They would never be successful in getting that legislation passed. There are more MTs who could probably pass their exam but won't take it because of the ridiculous cost. Plus, doesn't one lose their "CMT" status if they don't pay their AAMT dues? More ridiculous drek. I know of more former coworkers as MTs who have been in the career for 30+ years and NEVER considered becoming certified. A stupid cliqish group.
Absolutely agree with you....S/M
Hope an entire new crew comes in or they cancel the show as it's gone downhill..........
I absolutely agree with you 110%! sm
My son is applying for PreMed, has 4.0 GPA, passed all AP exams with a 4, but the colleges will take "other than Caucasian" with lower GPA and lower test scores, etc. Discrimination is rampant in USA of White Americans. It is nauseating to say the least!
You tell me - can we help it if we are smarter, work harder, etc? It is not our fault that we were born "white." Can't believe it has come to this in America!
RE: I absolutely agree with you 110%! sm
When did MT Stars become a haven for overt racial overtones? Sad!Sad!Sad!
Absolutely agree!
I have always found it important to take that break, eat, and either read, meditate or do some resting yoga poses to stretch stiff muscles. Makes the afternoon go 10x better.
Agree absolutely! It's
That's correct . . . this process is necessitated by HIPAA. It's related to protecting patient information.
If you think this is some employer control thing, you're dead wrong. It's a security and privacy requirement mandated by federal regulation, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
Do you know what the fine is for disclosure of personally-identifiable patient information? If not, you're not keeping up with the industry.
Would you want YOUR name and insurance information leaked out? So someone could use it? Do you know what medical identity theft is? If not, you're not keeping up.
If you do not know about this, then your employers are not providing adequate employee training. If you're self-employed, then you are not providing yourself with enough continuing education.
This is a serious issue. It has nothing to do with trying to hamper productivity, pay you less, or interfere with your life. It is, in fact, one reason the largest user of MT services in the country just banned offshoring and are looking to return to in-house MTs only.
This is a non-problem. If you want to check your email and do research on the net, just do your part to protect your clients' patients and get a laptop.
I absolutely agree with the recruiter above - sm
I worked with a woman who claimed to be a medical transcription instructor, 20 years experience, so on and so on. Get this - she could not understand a simple line of "the lungs are clear to auscultation." I AM NOT LYING ON THIS!!
I cannot tell you THE COUNTLESS NUMBER of transcriptionists that get an attitude about needing to take a transcription test when they have X-number of years experience, but you know what?? I would say a little less than half of the "prima donnas" that had this attitude, could not transcribe for beans!! I worked with a company that had travelers that sent out transcriptionists that had the prima donna attitudes, and again, their transcription could KILL A PATIENT!!! They didn't care. They were doing it for the line count to make the money. One woman if made up crap just to get extra lines.
I absolutely agree, Endiqua. sm
I agree. I'm not absolutely convinced that he did it (sm)
And obviously the authorities feel the same. I hope it is, for the family's sake. They don't need any more pain.
Absolutely agree 100% with your post!

Absolutely agree with Olympus ws-110
My local doctor uses that and he sounds crystal clear. I love it. It comes apart in the middle and has a USB connection. He plugs it into his computer, downloads the dictations, sends them to me. Easy.
I have to agree. Absolutely prosper with it and love it! sm
I, like you, produce 2500 to 3000 lines per day and CAN pay my bills on it; however, I do make way above the average cpl on EditScript.
RE: Networking
Don't know where you are, but networked ours through DSL provider, Bellsouth. We have 3 and it is wireless networking on mine. They are at one end of the house and I am at the other pretty much.
I absolutely agree with you. You've made it grammatically correct
hope this all comes through.
Your change is much better than the one suggested below which totally changes the sentence and would not be correct in my opinion.
Networking with people throughout the day
was a benefit to working outside of my home. I am always surprised at the amount of information we absorb just by talking with others in the cafeteria line, waiting for elevators, sitting beside someone and chatting with them about daily events, common interests, places to shop, etc. When 9/11 took place, at that very moment, I was so eager to talk with another human being about it, I recall,
Re: Networking/Advice
I have lots of the same questions as the poster below about getting set up with some kind of web-based file transfers, etc. I am going to do my own research, but if anyone has a suggestion of which direction to look that would be great.
I see the point about connections, and since I live in an area where I have not worked in-house I am kinda stumped. I did once land a small solo practice account by writing a letter. It was very close to my home and I pointed out the convenience to both of us and he called. When I moved he said he would write a glowing recommendation letter to anyone.
So I'm thinking if I can get that first account, the "connection" situation can be helped along.
What about the doctor you/your kids/your mother, etc., go to? How about the chiropractor? Even if a doctor is part of a conglomerate, they might refer someone to you. I am thinking of asking my doctor (solo with 2 NPs) next time I go what her transcription situation is.
Still, what I am stumped about is how to set up getting the work. I don't want to pick up tapes and I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on my 10-report-a-week job, either!
absolutely agree; they needed a good dose of Exlax. where was the local talent.

Are you using a wireless router for networking or
do you actually have wireless internet? We got a Wii last Christmas and I use a wireless router and we haven't had any problems at all.
If you are using a router you may need to adjust the channel settings on it. I think Nintendo recommends channel 11. You can go to Nintendo.com and see if you can find a solution or Google it and if no help there call Nintendo. Their customer service isn't in India.
I got mine from networking and working
themselves asked me if I'd be interested. That was 10 years ago though and still going strong, but now I think the competition keeps one from landing their own accounts. However, it can be done. I've heard others say they've mailed flyers or gone cold-calling to offices with a business card. I guess if you have local medical facilities, it's worth a try. Even mailing a letter with a business card could land you an account. You never know who is unhappy with their current transcription provider.
One account I had (he's since retired) asked me because his Transcriptionist was retiring. So quirky stuff can happen.
yeah..networking on who she can bully the most.
making herself look better only to herself. there is *bluntness* and then there is *bully*. and being just plain mean just because they *don't have time* to be nice.
G and N only apply to wireless networking. nm
stick around for the networking...ignore the doom and gloom...sm
i've checked these boards over the years; when the doom gets thick, i take a break; when i get "isolationitis" i come and see if there's someone i can help; i think you can CHOOSE your RESPONSE to these boards and their content. there are plenty of us on in this career who are choosing to make the best of a difficult situation; i CHOOSE not to be negatively impacted and keep my motivation up by helping others in the network. don't take this stuff personal...stick around...building community is always better than going it alone.... jmho
Agree. Anything where you can just use Word
x
I agree with "the word" but it can sure help you transcribe everything
:i
I agree esp if they take out the word American. I don't want to belong

I agree. Best surgical word book!!!!! nm

I agree, don't like the QLDB but I do like Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book
That is one book I purchase yearly.
Chicken pox in the mouth
I'd be calling my doc asap with it being in her mouth. The home remedy I had to use was Maalox/Benadryl and doc added diluted Xylocaine to numb it. My dd had it on her uvula also. Made a concotion of yogurt with the above also and added Lysine to it to. That is after the doc had a look at her. Good luck but don't mess around.
You don't need to use the mouth for F10 and insert (see msg)
Not sure what you mean. If you use the F10 and insert the word, use the Alt, (I think it's T or X) whatever has the little underline in it, then esc. Mouse doesn't have to be used at all. Try it.
Put your money where you mouth is
I suggest that you go out and get accounts and have the MT's work for you and you don't pocket a dime when they give you "perfect work" and yet you have to still proof it, deliver it, answer all questions, invoice out and make sure the account is happy. I doubt that you would do all of that for free -- . I make 2 to 2.5 cents per line from my sub's. I am sure some of the VERY large companies are making 6-8 cpl but that covers the QA person, the software that they provide, the benefits, if they provide you with a computer, management, etc. But for us small to medium -- dare you try it and see how rich you get -- that is why I still type 2000 to 2500 lines per day and am ready to give up my subs as it is not worth the 20% I get off of their accounts.
snart mouth, eh?....does not ........NM
no, but my mouth is watering! nm

DO NOT PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH...OP
First of all, I only mentioned the fact that the child has 4 parents to make a point...they have twice the resources we have to give their child things like a car for her birthday...that's the only reason I brought that up. I do not hold the fact that her natural parents are divorced against her...I love this girl! I'm just worried about her being, first of all, turned loose in a car mere hours after getting her license, and the fact that now my daughter is wanting to run around in the car with her!
I know it's none of my business, that's why I have NOT stated any opinions to ANYONE...except my husband, about the situation. So, you completely took my post out of context. Perhaps you have some unresolved issues with your parent's divorce?
the mouth noises!!!
I hate it when they are sitting there thinking about what they want to say and are moving their tongue around in their mouth so it sounds like they are sucking or smacking!
it means nothing by mouth sm
but they probably wanted the exact meaning which is nothing per os.
It is not that I am 'frothing' at my mouth
because she implied that I am Indian, I am angry because she thought that she is some kind of detective and was criticizing my GRAMMAR!
Do you understand NOW ?
that one surely has both feet in their mouth right now.
When someone points a finger its usually to make themself feel more powerful, sad and unhappy person. Honey, all came here the same way, we came from dirt and are going back to dirt. You keep being strong, raise those babies the best you can and be proud you don't have the mentality of the person making such a crud statement.
so its okay for you to be unappreciated, to just keep mouth shut
I also do my work and then some, but why not a little respect back that I give? I can't believe it doesnt bother you. Look at your tone on this board, you seem like the kind of person who would be bothered by it.
A mouth guard helped me
Good luck.
meant mouth SHUT

What is with these dictators with the microphone in their mouth?!
Cripe - I've been on this american doctor all morning and he is the pits. Sounds like he has the microphone buried inside of his mouth. All kinds of breath noises and other undesirable sounds. Things are so distorted and my line count is in the toilet. Don't they know its garbage in-garbage out? Plus he talks 200 mph. ARGH
loud-mouth neighbor
ooooooooooo, I would love 1 minute alone with your neighbor!!!!
oops - SMART MOUTH..............NM
typo
took the words right outta my mouth
Classic!
did not put words in your mouth just noted
that I didn't think the problem was that I didn't know what I was doing. Unfortunately, Dragon doesn't limit their claims to only disabled MT's. So I thought it important to post that it doesn't do what Dragon likes to say it can do.
ok, I'll keep my mouth shut!! ;) Thanks! nm

Straight from the horse's mouth . . .
Snagged this straight from the Escription site. Hope it helps.
We have had success configuring both the Belkin USB/Serial Adaptor and the Dynex USB PDA/Serial Adaptor to work properly with a serial Foot Pedal and EditScript MT. Other adaptors may also work using this setup, however we cannot guarantee that they will.
- To set up the Belkin USB/Serial Adaptor:
- Install the USB/Serial adaptor per the instructions included with the device.
- After installation, open the Windows Device Manager:
- Right-Click on My Computer, choose Properties.
- From the Hardware tab, cick Device Manager.
- In the Device Manager window, click the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT). You should see the USB/Serial Adaptor listed there with a COM port next to it.
- Right click on the Adaptor and choose Properties.
- From the Port Settings tab, click Advanced.
- From the COM Port Number drop-down, set the device to COM6. (Any COM device higher than COM4 should also work; be sure to remember what you set this to.)
- Click OK to close the Advanced window, then OK to close the Properties window.
- Close the Device Manager
- Now open EditScript and log in.
- Once you have logged in, click on the Options button in the EditScript toolbar:
- From the Foot Pedal tab, change the CommPort setting to COM6 (or whichever port it was set to above).
- Click OK to close the Options dialog.
Your Foot Pedal should now work properly through the Serial/USB adaptor.
