AMEN! I actually used to type UPI teletypes

when I worked as a newsroom clerk back in the mid 1970's. That was the only way to send a breaking story from one newspaper to another around the state. Little teeny keyboard and if you made an error, you typed XXX and then started over. It went to an editor,  then it went to a typist (which was me again on the  receiving end) who typed it on plain rolls of brownish paper on a manual typerwriter, proofed it, wrote changes in red pen, rolled it up and sent it down a shute to the composing room where it was proofed again and every single individual letter on a metal plate was arranged into words and sentences for the printing press. I'll tell you what though, there were a lot less errors in the newspaper back when people actually read the stuff to proofread it.

That was my very first computer experience job when they got a "desktop" computer that was bigger than a 32" TV.

My manual typewriter in that newsroom had a loose carriage so when I hit the return bar, 9 times out of 10 the carriage would fly off on the floor and I'd have to pick it up and set it back on. I used to take stories over the phone on that old battle axe typewriter with the phone receiver crooked under my chin. Small town and people were so used to it, I'd say, "Can you hang on a second?" and they'd say, "Gotta pick up the carriage again?"

They built a new state of the art newspaper building about 15 years ago and just bulldozed the area to expand a an existing parking lot. The old printing press was in the basement of the old building and they just buried it and paved over it.

Time marches on.

Kudos to all of you oldsters out there. I think one thing that makes us really great is our ability to keep adapting to new technology.

Amen! Amen! Amen. You have helped me this day, by taking out time to write such a post!
May God bless you tremendously.
don't type double spaces. Type single. Then no one will be cheated.

I can type with wine, can't type with coffee, though...too jittery.

That is, type the code above before and after what you want bolded in the text-to-type box. nm

For me it isn't an account type but a dictator type ...
and that would be oriental. An oriental dictator (hahaha, that kind of sounds funny...hahaha) is the most challenging for me.
No, you don't type directly into ES. You type in Word -
or whatever their platform is, just like you did with your tapes.

Then you do your line count in Word or the platform.
You should type them. I usually type them in parentheses following the diagnosis.

remind me, type what they say, type what they say, type....
"He indicated that at the beginning of the year he complained of health problems recently but has gotten better."  C'mon doc, which one is it?????
Shorthand users: Is there a way to type a word, use a slash and then type another word..sm

immediately following the slash and have it expand.  For example if I needed to transcribe mass/sebaceous cyst, is there a way to use my expanded sebaceous cyst without having to back space after I type the slash mark?  TIA

Amen!
It's about time!  So glad not just the Aruban people think this way.

I feel exactly the same way! I also play an integral part in supporting my family, as my DS has a seasonal business and we'll be getting into the slow time soon. I am so scared - after over 10 yrs with MQ and companies that had been swallowed by MQ, this is the absolute worst time I've ever had. I truly wish I could get out of the MT industry forever at this point.
Amen Tia
I couldn't have said it better myself!!! I too live in a small town in Louisiana (Gueydan) and we have opened our Civic Center to evacuees. I agree that this will forever change our country!!!

Amen to that. Been there, done that.
I went back to nursing school when my children were in their early teens and they hated it. All I did when I was at home was study. Nursing school and then the nursing profession is very, very taxing. Study is long and hard to get through nursing school. The hours are crummy and the job is tough. Think a lot about it and do it only if it's what YOU want. Best of luck whatever you decide.
