ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! All teenagers need to work for

Posted By: their car!!! SM on 2005-11-23

My mom and dad bought me a $1000 car which I had to make payments back to them to get it paid off. I got a job and did just that!! If you do this, you will learn to appreciate what you have!!! Teenagers have too much handed to them on silver platters these days!!! It is ruining our teens!!

teenagers
I am glad to hear that some people still set boundaries for teens. My son is 13 and I am strict wtih him compared to what I see almost everywhere. So far he hasn't rebelled but it wouldn't surprise me when you see how wild how so many are these days. No bedtime, no curfew, no manners, skipping school, very foul language, destructive of property, oh man, I could go on an on. It has crossed my mind more than once if/when I will handle these situations. So many of the parents don't seem to notice/care. Glad to know some still do. Keep up the good work. We're following in your footsteps.
When my kids were teenagers,
they had to do their own wash, along with a few other things.  Many days at first, their clothes and wet towels (used once) were on the floor of their room.  When there were no clean towels left (I kept 2 for myself), and one morning, no clean shirts that were up to par for my son, he never forgot to do the wash again.  Ever.  You have to be strong and not give in, even though it's hard.  But his wife is sure happy and tells me that she's glad I raised a son who is not afraid to pitch in and help with housework and even knows how to run a washing machine!
Most teenagers are irresponsible
and some are just LUCKY. And they're all having sex. So there.
As I said, doctors want to get teenagers
to try out the new drug, so, whenever they get hands on one, they try to 'push' it on them, as the OP stated.

It seems to me that the doctor started with this issue as the OP did not mention anything about her previous cervical cancer.

And, BTW, there is a heightened risk for certain diseases to be hereditary, but it does not always occur.
staying home w/teenagers
Can not agree with you more.  Where my preteen & teen hated that I was at home all the time, their friends loved it...duh, guess which mom was there to haul them around before they got their drivers lisc.  Still think they should be 30 before they can drive
Absolutely you can work FT and
need a flexible employer and type when you can.  I did this job at home and had 3 small children.  It is a challenge, but it can be done.
Teenagers good to be home with - I did the same thing
Once had an argument with my boss working in the office, because my hours were supposed to be 7-3, or 3:30.  I was on salary (can you believe that) at the time, and she expected me to stay till 5 or 6.  She herself used to practically live there.  I told her no, I wanted to be home with my kids, and she said they weren't babies anymore and didn't need me.  Well, I left everyday after that by 3:30, and believe U me, it is a very good idea to be able to monitor your teenagers, and I would do it again (God forbid I ever  had teenagers again)  They are all grown now.
Do you believe parents should GIVE their teenagers a nice new car?
My 17yo claims the parking lot at school is FULL of nice new cars that were given to their drivers.  I think she's exaggerating, like teenagers do.  She has her grandmother's old car that we have made her either pay for or work off by cleaning  her grandmother's house... Value - 500 dollars.  I'm a little disappointed in my daughter who seems to be crying the blues here and making me feel like a negligent parent.  Heck, I didn't even HAVE a car of my won until I was 19, and I bought it with my dad co-signing and made payments on my own.
Absolutely not! The only work I do in there is ......, well you get the jest of it. nm

Absolutely teens work
In this day and age of 10 year olds with ATM cards and cell phones, absolutely! How do you learn the value of money if you never actually earn it and handle it? All 3 of my kids walked dogs for $2 an hour, scooped ice cream, babysat, mowed lawns, shoveled snow, etc. As long as their grades were up, they could work part time. The deal was that whatever they saved towards college spending money, we would match. We would also help buy each a used car for college. They knew from age 12 they had ONE SHOT at college on our nickel, then they were on their own if they dropped out or flunked out. We didn't micromanage their savings -- they were responsible for it themselves all along. All 3 absolutely amazed us -- between them we had to match almost $20k. They are now well eductated, working and productive adults. My eldest son actually thanked me for our good example as parents, and giving them an understanding of the value of money. How great is that????
That is absolutely ridiculous for anyone to have to have 9 accounts to have work.
:
Yes and absolutely worth it. I love to work
outside when weather permits.  I don't do it every day because hooking up and unhooking and having to carry everything gets to be a pain, but I do it on occasion.  I also like to travel, which is why I got a laptop to start with.   It allows me to work in the car or a couple of hours a day wherever we go so there is still some income, but I also have time to enjoy time with family.
Absolutely, I absolutely love my job and

you are absolutely right and I know because I know

Absolutely!
Stay at the Polynesian - it's right on the Disney Property and it is OH SO LUXURIOUS! Very reasonably priced, too for what you get. They have a great luau (sp?), and you can walk out your hotel room and hop on the tram straight into the park.

Speaking of parks, you MUST to go Epcot and bring lotsa de casha for the country of Germany - they have colored crystal that will knock your socks off and your pocketbook clear out of your purse.

IT IS TO DIE FOR! THE POLYNESIAN AND EPCOT!

Absolutely
...the immature vitriolic attitude some people on this board have. If it bothers you so much to see what may seem to you a no-brainer question posted, please feel free to move on, sparing us your crappy, holier-than-thou attitude. I'm absolutely ashamed to have people like you part of my MT community.
ABSOLUTELY!!!
MQ has hurt too many people and their families. I don't even work for them, but the hospital that I work for bought their DQS program, which is wonderful, but it also included the DocQmanage program which CHEATS TRANSCRIPTIONISTS!

How do you know DocuManage cheats MTs?
Absolutely no!

I agree with you! However, I do not consider people taking necessities to survive "looters." HUGE difference with someone taking shoes, jewelry, TVs, and nonessential items. These are 2 different classes totally. People trying to survive should not even be compared to a looter. I was all for shooting any and all looters that were caught in the act!
A absolutely
I wouldn't encourage my worst enemy to get into this field!
Absolutely not!
NO WAY - YUCK!
Absolutely NOT
MQLOVER would get upset. Yeah you sure did dig yourself into a big one. Just keep on going and may be you can find some more people to hire in China when you get there.

Yes, absolutely

I've been working a 13-hour per day schedule recently (getting ready for changes coming up). While I do slow down by the end of the day, I'm still holding quite steady and a decent line count. I've been accomplishing anywhere from 3016 (my low so far on the 13-hr schedule) to 3653 (my high so far on this schedule). TOUGH? YES! Possible??? Absolutely.

Absolutely! Go for it!

No, they absolutely do not.

Certainly the length of time it would take to complete the transcript would be dependent on a lot of things, but I personally would not bid less than $40 per audio hour, and due to the availability requirement of -- "I need for you to indicate your days and hours of availability. These
days and hours should NOT be flexible. These should be the days and
times that you are ALWAYS available to work. You will be receiving jobs
during these days and hours without advance notice and you are expected
to do them, no excuses."

I would not even do it for the $40 mentioned above.
no you are absolutely not alone!!! nm

Absolutely not. They will appreciate it more

and will take better care of it if they have to work for it.  We obtained a loan for our son to have his car and then he had to pay us back monthly, as well as keep up his insurance payments, car repairs, etc.  However, I do know that A LOT of parents feel it is a requirement for them to buy their children cars.  I personally think that is asking for trouble in the long run.  Nothing in this life is free and kids need to know that, especially since they're getting ready to enter the real world.

Absolutely.
I've been doing this for 20 years...don't want to do anything else.
Absolutely NOT. I take
every single job that comes to me...good, bad...long, short...do my best and go on to the next job.
That has absolutely zero to do with this. She could have SM
been an atheist, devil worshipper, a Buddhist, and what she did would still have changed the world.
ABSOLUTELY!
I have hired numerous MTEC graduates, and have not had a problem with any of them.  They are excellent MTs.  The program is worth every penny.  3 of the girls I hired five years ago are now making over 25/hour on production.
Absolutely yes!
The question really should be, if Michelle were healthy enough to skate at nationals, would she have been on the team.  With all else being equal, she would have been in the top 3 and therefore would have gone anyway.
Absolutely!
I read anything and everything I can get my hands on pertaining to this profession.

I have worked for over 25 years for a major medical institution as an MT, and it all goes away in two weeks. First came outsourcing to India (clinic AND academic), and now comes the EMR. There is very little for me to do these days, except try to edit what little academic comes through from India. I have come to the sad conclusion that quality doesn't matter when it can be done so much cheaper overseas, broken English isn't that big a deal when it all gets dumpted into an EMR anyway, and that now, at the age of 49, I have to find something else I can do to get by until retirement, since I honestly believe outsourcing is here to stay. Physicians with whom I've had a wonderful working relationship through the years have practically ignored me the last few months. One doctor half-heartedly offered me something for two days a week, but it was too little, too late, and too sad for me to accept. I would never, ever promote this field to anybody, since when I see an entire medical center outsource and go totally EMR, there just is no demand for what I do any more.

MT is a dead-end, no respect, joe-job with no room for advancement, best suited to people with limited social skills and low expectations for themselves. Anyone who wants to better themselves instead of stagnate in limbo should move on. I have.
Not from PA, NJ.... but absolutely looking
for a different company. Let me know if you still want me to drop you an e-mail. Thanks for your reply.

I work for a national as an IC doing acute care from home.  My schedule is flexible, I have direct deposit, and I get great feedback from QA and my supervisor.  I am not "hounded" by anyone.  I am left to do my work in peace, which is the way I work best.  Wouldn't have it any other way!
Absolutely.
Hey Absolute~
You have my DREAM job!!! :)
