AAMT constantly changes the rules every time they have a new edition of their BOS to sell.

They've been taking advantage of MT's for years and have no shame. I want no part of it, and never have.

Does anyone know how much AAMT charges for a new BOS? I am looking to purchase the 2nd edition AAMT BOS (have the 1st edition) but cannot get on the AAMT website to comparison shop. I have looked at Amazon and Half.com. Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

AAMT has rules on punctuation that are a great help.
Review them??!!??!!?!
Okay, I didn't renew with them this year, but it still doesn't negate the fact that you could use a calming influence. If AAMT causes you stress, remove it from your memory banks rather than fretting about it. It is what it is.
They (AAMT) made the rules for years until the internet
and those of us who had been isolated in the past got to know each other on line. We started to discuss this and other issues, and figured out that AAMT is a bunch of bottom feeding scheisters ripping us off while enjoying themselves in Hawaii at their "convention" most likely being paid for at least in part by the dues, fees, and other drummed up charges for useless crap they've gotten out of us before we figured out what a huge money-grubbing hoax their "organization" is.
AAMT 2nd ed. finally adopted the rules the AMA and CBE style guides
use numerals (except at beginning of sentence). It conveys numerical information quickly when one sees the numbers rather than the word.
I don't know of a standard national font and size.
I learned along time ago: My house, my rules. sm
I have been through the wringer, trying to keep my two older kids away from "bad influences." But I have learned.
When they were younger, I simply said, "You can play with so and so outside, but he's bratty. If he gets bratty outside, he'll have to go home."
When they were teenagers, I simply set the "House Rules". Abide by them, or out you go. Funny thing was, the friends were more compliant than my own kids. :)
If my older kids brought a friend over to stay the night because he/she was "fighting with mom/dad," I'd say, "Sure you can stay, but not until you call your mom or dad and tell them you are here and that you aren't going anywhere and that you are safe for the night."
I heard on occasion, "Didn't your mom say NOT to do that?" I guess I had more "control" than they had at their own houses and they felt good about having some limits.
My son who FINALLY moved out at 19 had a few new friends that came over one night and, as they were leaving, they said, "We'll be back around 10:30!" I said, "Sorry guys, this place closes at 10:00 on weeknights." They didn't come back.
I have 2 younger ones, 14 and 10. We have a pool. My pool rule? No towel, no towel. You can swim, but you can "drip dry."
Funny thing is, I've collected well over 2 dozen towels in the past 2 years that I have no idea where they came from. If it were me, the minute my child came home, I would have said, "And where is my towel?" Some parents just don't stay on top of things, if you know what I mean.
Sounds like it's time you established some rules
and demanded some respect. Your husband needs to respect the fact that you are working. Does he treat you with the same contempt in other areas of your life? It might be time to reevaluate the relationship and start communicating with him in a different way. He might be one of the trainable ones.
Some rules I follow..for #6, I think the first time an abbreviation is used, you expand and paren th
but no abbreviations in diagnosis at all.
I can use the deduction now, and when old and ready to sell, hope sell price is high enough won't
matter. Also, I think there is a time frame of not working that negates the job deduction factor.
My 1995 edition (called the 1st edition by most)
is 519 pages long.
Maybe you're thinking of AAMT's old gold Style Guide for Medical Transcription? (though my 1985 edition of that is only 70 pages long)
Amen! AAMT has let us down BIG TIME!
I remember 30 years ago when AAMT was first "hatched." It seemed like it was too good to be true. Turned out I was right. They have done NOTHING for us except standardize grammar - what about promoting our profession? Getting us the recognition and respect this profession deserves? Getting us the money we deserve in compensation for the vast knowledge we need to to do this job? AAMT is a joke - they are a very self-important group, but have done NADA for the every day MT.
AAMT has been working on that for a long time. Frankly sm
I would prefer AAMT start working on getting us better working conditions, a more standardized and fair pay scale, and benefits, instead of certifying offshore MTs and getting involved in offshoring to the extent that they are. Really, now, which do you care most about?
It hasn't been called AAMT in a long time. nm
Get involved? With AAMT? You've got to be joking. What an incredible waste of time.
It wasn't ALL that and it was expensive no matter. I'm sick of hearing the same old blather and seeing NO change that benefits AMERICAN MTs. I'm in California so it was nothing for me to hop from the mainland, but EVERYTHING on the Hawaiian Islands is expensive. Of course, the Modesto Mavens were there in all their AAMT glory. Can you say PUKE? Sorry, but that's the way I feel about it. I went to see if anything had changed, REALLY changed, and most of it was a big bunch of double talk. Oh, and to think that I actually thought that I might interject in conversation! Boy, was I wrong. I'll never attend another AAMT convention again in my life. What a waste of time and money.
You tell it like it is -- constantly being
asked to take on a new account -- causing me to lose money -- but makes mgmt "love" that supervisor of mine, thereby getting a big bonus/raise for HER.
Have a doc who does this constantly...
makes me physically ill! YUCK! WHATAPIG!
I have one that constantly says
'and' after every sentence. If I actually transcribed it like she said, the whole document would be one run-on sentence.
I have a doc who constantly
and I mean constantly uses the word "actually". The patient now actually feels better and actually has not been taking the meds even though actually etc etc
Drives me nuts !
This CONSTANTLY happens to me!
I'm almost to the point where I dread that people are going to ask what I do for work, because the minute I tell them what I do and that I work from home, all of the questions come flooding in! So many people think that they can just do it! I worked in the medical field as an EMT before going to school for MT, and I still was overwhelmed with all of the new terms and drugs that I had never even heard of when I first started! It just amazes me that people with no experience in the medical field whatsoever think that they can just sit down at a computer and do it with no problems! It makes me laugh because they just have no idea what they would be getting into!
constantly saying
as well as
Yet YOU constantly bring this up.
YOU are doing exaactly what you are complaining about. Give it up. People come here to talk. That is what an open forum is all about. No one is forcing you to stay on this board and read, nor do they expect or want you to reply if you don't want to. You are the one who needs to give it a rest. Talking is what this board is all about. You are not going to stop that. If it bothers you, stay away. Thank you.
Any other MTs deal with this constantly?
Doctor dictates report, then a few dictations later, "this is a correction to a previous report..." which is full of stuff which was left out of the report, wanting to change the report, or adding new findings. We have to go back into the original report, do the changes, save (and hope it really saves), exit and then submit the new report. This is frustrating enough, but try training on it!!! Anyone ever train on an account with this crap from doctors going on?! If so how do you manage without tearing your hair out? All advice welcome.javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
My son, who is 14, most definitely YES! He is constantly whining to me about being bored, but...

There are a few terms I am constantly misspelling...
I make a shortcut so when I type it my (wrong) way it is "expanded" to the correct spelling.
I am constantly getting the beeping sound
as when I hit a key, it doesn't register in Meditech, beeps are coming from my office all day. Some days are better than others. Defrag and cleaning disk helps. Also, it seems that during weekends and odd hours, it is faster.
This program has driven me nuts. There are others who do not complain about it and others who have it worse. That part is a mystery to me.
If I were paid for every keystroke I used getting through Meditech including getting in and out of documents, I'd be a wealthy woman.
We got an updated set of account guidelines constantly
put somewhere different than it was last week, they'd tell us to change something and when we changed it they sent it back and told us not to change it anymore. They blamed things on us that weren't even anything we do, like if someone was on vacation and a report didn't get sent to the right place. People started to get threatened with termination (not me but I know people who were) for even the most miniscule reason like forgetting to sign off a doc as a DO instead of an MD. They were just unreasonable bullies and the more they complained and fussed the more Diskriter management bowed to their every wish and created a monster. Good luck if you end up there. It could have been a nice account if this nonsense had been nipped in the bud.
Make 12 cpl but constantly rewinding, going in/out of fields
If you can utilize speed typing engines, have same docs, the format is user friendly, it is possible, in the long run, to make as much as I do at 12 cpl.
I think you should try it for two weeks and consider that after three months you will be twice as fast due to familiarity.

BOS 3rd edition changes sm
For those who do not have the 3rd edition of AAMT BOS, thought I would let you know the changes. Just got my copy. I think some of them will take a lot of reeducation. I do QA, and I know how hard it has been to move everyone toward putting 3-cm lesion. Now we have to tell them it is wrong! Sigh....
* Dropping the use of hyphens with numeric values and metric units when forming compound modifies (2 cm incision rather than 2-cm incision)
*Dropping the use of periods in most lowercased Latin abbreviations, like legal abbreviations (et al, eg, ie, viz, etc) and literary reference abbreviations (p, pp, sec)
*Continued trend toward dropping the use of periods with abbreviated personal and coutesy titles unless it is known that the person in question prefers the inclusion of a period (Dr, Mrs, Jr, Sr)
*Dropping the use of a comma to separate a person's last name from titles, such as Jr, Sr, or roman numerals following a person's last name from titles, such as John H Smith III.
*The inclusion of a space between the numeric value and the degree symbol when expressing temperature values and their scales (using degree sign)
*Dropping the space between parameters when expressing TNM staging for malignant tumors (T2N1M0 rather than T2 N1 M0 OR T2, N1, M1)
*Dropping the use of subscripts with EEG electrode references.
Remote 008Keylogger found constantly on my spyware.
Everytime I log onto the server for the company I work for I run my spyware. Everytime I open a job lately I have re-run my spyware and it seems to me that "008remote keylogger" is constantly on my PC. This spyware enables the "server" to see everything I type, every email, and where I go on my internet. Would anyone else be concerned?
YES my pitbull is doing this constantly. Was in the middle of an HUGE file and
i didn't pay attention to where i was. She came under the desk (she is scared of EVERYTHING) and sat on it. I got her out and started listening and I was like OH CRAP ... had to figure out where i was!!
Stay way from Penny Talk - you will constantly be disconnected..sm
It was nothing but a big mess. Everytime I tried to pound off a job, it would disconnect me, and then charge me the 69 cents to reconnect, which I ended up doing about 50 times a day. Not an option for any MT. I have always used Vonage and have had no problems. If all else fails, stay with onesuite.com until you can find a permanent unlimited long distance plan. Good luck!
Unless she has animals that constantly snag on the carpet or intentionally sm
dig their claws into the carpet, I have to beg to differ with you on the berber carpet. We LOVE ours. Have had it for 7 years with 3 cats, 4 dogs (not all at once) and we don't have any snags! I'm serious. I'm not sure what grade of carpet you are referring to, but we have not had any problems with our Berber. I also think it cleans very well with a steam cleaner once every 6 months or so. Our Berber still looks new with all of these pets we've had.
So, I do recommend Berber, though it is pricey.
There are a lot of other durable things on the market that she can look for and afford but I just had to say something about Berber because we just love ours.
I have a doctor that constantly has a gurgling voice. It makes me...
want to clear my throat or at least yell and tell him to clear his throat. It is so annoying. I know if I had a gurgle I would at least clear my throat. It sounds so disgusting. Ew!
Funny, but I constantly see posts of newbies lamenting...
that they cannot get a job because they have no experience. There is no guarantee no matter what school you go to that you will have a job after you cross the finish line.
Stedman's 4th edition is even better...
than the 3rd. It's true there may not be every single radiology term in Stedman's, but I don't know of ANY reference, text or electronic, that has every know term. For any book on ANY specialty to have every conceivable term is impossible - unless we want books 10 feet thick.
stedman edition
u dont know how much i appreciated this bit of orientation. I just started my first oficial transcription job at a nephrologist office. I'm so proud of myself after trying in within two years to KICK my foot in the door. This week has been tough but I'm learning and quickly catching on. I just cant wait till I can effortlessly fly through my reports. Thanks for the advise. I will purchase my book through ebay tonight.
thank you again,

I beg your pardon. I have elderly relatives in nursing homes who are constantly in and out of
hospitals. The elderly especially need our reports to be ACCURATE, as nobody gives a hoot to "talk" about them, let alone doctors getting to actually know and remember patients. EVERYTHING about their acute care in hospitals is taken FROM THE PAPER MEDICAL RECORD, and also when they get bumped back to the nursing home. The caretakers take ALL info from the transfer sheet. Reality check for those who need help most - elderly who cannot rattle off their histories themselves.
Stedman's 4th edition is from 2004 and has...
1044 pages of words, plus appendices of 43 pages. I prefer Stedman's over HPI.
2nd edition over 600 pages long....sm
your client is out of touch........*lol*
