I think it is one of the problems with our industry there is no regulation in ANYthing...Certification will BRING a different level of professionalism to the position. The reason why many think we are people who type that know a few medical words is for the fact that many are so who could tell the difference. Without some level of competence required, tested, "proven," then employers have no way of knowing what they're getting; they have no way of knowing so they're going to shoot low. Is there any other profession in healthcare that is not certified at some level? Is there any position requiring less than an associate's degree? Some recognize it now, some don't. Another example of the chaotic atmosphere. If we profess we are so knowledgeable and of such a higher grade, then time to pony up with the rest of the professions. There has to be a way to demonstrate who we are and what we know. Then, I would ask the MT organizations to turn their focus on being an advocate for "their" people as opposed to being controlled by the outside influences and asking their people to comply. WE are the experts in MT technology who should be at the helm, not jumping hoops to make everyone else happy.
