A lot of people who grew up without privilege ended up skanks too

Money or lack of money has nothing to do with it. It's whether the person has any value system, lines they will not cross, and standards set for themselves regardless of financial status.

So did a lot of people, but they didn't grow up to be skanks.
She's gross.
Sorry you didn't have the privilege sm
of working in this time and seeing how good it really could be!
Next they will charge you for the privilege of editing reports
This rate is an insult to even a newbie. What trashy companies are out there now? I hope management took a 75% paycut when they went to this program, as well. It sounds like they are totally unqualified to run a business.
Privilege and weak parental guidance helped too.
She had one messed up childhood.
A lot of girls growing up with privilege like she had turned skank.
If your definition of skank is a female who is openly promiscuous with no regard for others, low morals, and is proud of it, there are a lot of them. Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchey, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson (claims to be a religious girl -yeah right), Jenna Jamison, etc...there are a lot of them out there.
rich skanks dress better and have nicer cars and homes.
My rant re: "a match made in trailer heaven - two skanks in a crud"
Let me FIRST say that I do not usually rant, I am not a ranter, if something bugs me I take a deep breath, look at the offending item in the grand scheme of my life and realize that most of the time it isn't that big a deal. However, these condescending trailer park references that I run into are a bunch of crap!
How can you make a derogetory referrence regarding people who live in trailers? If it had something to do with race or sex you have been flamed by the whole board. I am sick and tired of generalizations directed basically towards me! I live in a trailer in a trailer park and I MOST CERTAINLY am not a skank. I have heard it all, white trash, trailer trash, skank, etc. when people talk about parks. My town even named it a "Manufactured House Community" and hid it where you can't see it! I am here because I can afford it here. The average price for a house in my town in Maine is $250,000 ++. While we do just fine, I cannot afford that on my MT salary (been MT for 6 years) even though my husband works his butt off at 3 jobs. Oh sure, we could probably get a loan for a $300,000 house but I refuse to get in over my head in debt just to convince people like YOU I am in your league! I also LIKE it here. My neighbors are the best I have had. All of our homes (trailers) are well maintained, the lawns are spotless, and there is not a single car up on blocks that I can see anywhere!! Don't even bother to tell me that is not the norm for parks because there are 300+ trailers in this park and they are all just as well taken care of!
Another thing that irritates me is the word "skank". I have never understood why women have to tear each other down using trashy descriptions like that. Of course I am sure there are those out there who DESERVE the title but most of the time women seem to judge based on the look of the offending party.
You may think your comment was tiny and I am blowing it out of proportion, but I am not! It is comments like that that makes people like my neighbors ashamed to even tell people where they live.
I have said my piece and I await the flaming. When you drive through my park (yah right) and see me standing on the nice, green lawn in front of my pretty trailer with my 7-year-old in the yard, my toddler on my hip, looking very pregnant in my cutoffs and tank tops, you can THINK "skank" all you want. I KNOW that I am a strong, educated, well-employed woman with a nice little family who refuses to put all our happiness and our hard-earned savings on the line to prove that I am EQUAL to people like you!

Hey, neighbor...Wonder if we know each other? I'm in Douglasville now...whatta small world it is!
No, I wish. I actually grew up in Noble. sm
but I worked at the hospital in Norman for years. I wish I was still in that area. I loved it.

Hi, I used to be so scared of Ops, grew to LOVE THEM.....SM
Have you gone to the MTDaily website? On the homepage, they have a link to loads and loads of samples of all kinds of operations and procedures, or you could go to MTDesk, samples there also that you can print out. I also think there may be samples at MTBot.com, but sure, though, many links there...hopes this helps, good luck, you'll learn fast!
I am 30, grew up watching Peter Jennings.
This was really sad for ME because I have seen him on the TV since I can remember watching TV. The time I remember him the most of course is 9/11. He was there nonstop. I will never forget.
Um, what? I grew up very poor and made it through college and now
I am working FT and so is DH.
If I grew up into an adult blaming the govt for my poor mistakes and irresponsibility (bringing children into the world when you can't even take care of yourself) then that would not be a good thing.
It is NOT the govts fault that people are poor or that they can't feed their kids. Give me a break.
In fact, I am living proof, and so are millions of other people, that no matter where you grew up in life or where you've been, if you are determined to make it, then you will. Just ask Judge Mathis.
Quit blaming others for your life situation. Start taking control and action and responsibility!
yep, she grew up poor... born 1935, so I'm sure sm
the economy wasn't exactly booming then, and they were certainly poor. My dad born in 1923, and HE would wash old bread wrappers to use as lunch bags, and then wash em again and use them till they fell apart. Why buy plastic bags when they come free on the bread?
I grew up in FL, and my black teachers used a lot of these phrases...sm
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet because every northerner I know has asked me about this..."I'm fixin'to" as in, "Get your shoes on, we're fixin' to go to church." 2 of my 5 elementary teachers were black, and they both used this phrase all the time, so it was perfectly normal to us. Those teachers weren't any less educated, they were just native southerners raised in segregated communities. My hometown was still segregated well into the '80s.
It's funny, half the phrases people are naming on here I wouldn't have thought were southern-specific, they're that common to me.
distant trains for me, grew up with 'em. NM

you know as couples go, angelina and billy bob were perfect skanks for each other. perfect!
i suspect they may get back together because they are both so skanky no one else can keep up. that is unless she decides she wants her brother more which is skankier.
Thanks to you all - I ended up declining this offer after all. nm

She ended up losing the baby and she did tell him about it.

Quit 10 years ago because I ended up in the
hospital with an asthma attack. If you have asthma, you will not smoke. The way I did it was very short term use of the patch and 13 months of a low dose of Paxil. It kept me from having panic attacks from not having a cigarette. You probably know that there is more nicotine in all brands now than there was ten years ago.
I understand. Been in same boat. I ended up
trying to do the 2 jobs for a few years - IC and employee, and absolutely burned myself out. I sold out and stuck with the employee position. I don't regret it in the big picture, but I sure do miss my freedom. That hurts so much that I am basically dead emotionally regarding my JOB. Its now a job. But I just was not finding the security at IC positions and was afraid. I'm getting older and can't mess around with companies going under and the like. Once I did finally give up the second job as IC, though, it did take away lots of pressure, and I realized how hard I had been working doing the 2 jobs. So, I am an employee and probably safe, but I feel sad. Its a corny comparison, but I feel like one of those wild mustangs who was free, but now is saddle broke and in a corral.............Neigh. Neigh
All I can say is I wish my parents home schooled me. I ended up sm
getting into a gang from school due to constant peer pressure, failed the 8th grade, got arrested, and deep down inside my heart was always right and conscience telling me no, but when you have kids all around you who are just no good, you seem to get sucked into their ploys....My school years were just absolutely awful.
We didn't move away until it was too late. Moved to another state...I can't really tell you how I survived those high school years, but I can tell you this - it would have been much better for me and my own life had I been pulled from that situation altogether. I have 3 young boys now and I am home-schooling my 4 y.o. (pre-K). We do very little right now, but it may be a door for their future. We have social life at school and with relatives and good friends whom I CAN decide is right for them - when you are at school, we as parents, don't see all that is going on and kids nowadays need that constant supervision (which I lacked) and so I think home schooling CAN BE OF HELP FOR SOME and for others (maybe if they had good self esteem and knew better) can be in public schools.
Public schools nowadays though, are really going straight down the tubes..
PS: I did not read ANY of the other home schooling posts. Just wanted to share my story.
I do have a crockpot in my Goodwill box. I've ended up with 3 of them somehow.
Thanks for the offer. My mother and maternal grandmother both died of breast CA and I always knew of all the girls in the family I was going to be the one to get it, just didn't think this early. Haven't had staging yet, but I get yearly mammograms so hopefully they've caught it early enough.
I'm already trying to decide if I'm going to dye my hair that burgundy color that seems to be popular or if I'm going to get a super short haircut. I've recently taken up knitting and I've already accumulated a major stash of yarn and I'm making a list of all the things I'm going to make and how I'm going to teach all the other people going through chemo to knit and we'll just have a jolly ole' time knitting and carrying on. I've been wanting more time to knit.
Hate to tell ya, but some of us Flower Children ended up as
It's narrow-minded to blame any one generation. We Boomers blamed our parents' generation for all the world's problems, as well. I see CEOs from all 3 generations: My parents', the Baby Boomers, AND generations X & Y. GREED comes in all ages, sizes, shapes, and ethnicities.
I DO agree, however, on voting the old timers out of office. Not necessarily because they are OLD, but because too many of them are GREEDY, short-sighted, narrow-minded, and in the case of a certain President, jus' plain DUH-MB!
It sounds like the processes haven't ended yet...sm
Go to Task Manager and the Processes tab and you should see "wc32.exe" and "winword.exe" and if those are still running after you closed Extext, that means the program hasn't completely shut down yet. You can manually force it shutdown by highlighting each of those processes and hit End Task, I believe it is. Click yes when it prompts you to, then you shouldn't get that message about it not responding and the normal.dot message.
Not sure, but had something similar happen to me to, I ended up changing companies...
The telephone company I had was for unlimited calls, long distance and regional calls. Everything was fine for about 3 months and got a letter where they were disconnecting my service because they said I had used it too much. I called them and stated to them that it wsa for unlimited minutes and they just said sorry, they were discontinuing my service. Luckily I was moving anyway and the new area I moved to has cable. Might check into another telephone service. Good luck.
I know a very large MTSO that lost a LOT of money and ended up

Welcome to my world...I would type a whole page and ended up with 35 lines max. No thanks.
I had to bag it. I couldnt afford to do that. I was averaging $6 an hour. I can make more at McDonalds. So there is obviously a problem.
You are correct on all points-I ended up copy/pasting

Thanks! Called Help Desk. My settings somehow ended up on Joystick and not pedal. Go figure!

Ditto on Voice Systems. I have a friend who worked for them and ended up being owed .... SM
way more than $1000 when the first company went bankrupt. Also I had applied but decided not to take the job, and the MTSO literally begged me to come to work for them. I'm sure glad I didn't. Maybe this present company they've started will be better, but so far, it doesn't sound like it.
Went to pig roast. Chefs had no idea how to cook pig. Ended up smelling and tasting like garbage.

No joke. I made 12 cpl as an employee at a large teaching hospital. I should mention the ended up
work to an outside service and that is why I'm not with them today, but good paying, employee status jobs are out there, though they are few and far between. You just have to be patient and be good at what you do.
if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.
As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
Made in Japan is what we grew up seeing. Look where Japan is now
Car manufacturing and textiles are gone. Bush just signed another trade agreement with central america (CAFTA or maybe it is central america or LAFTA hahaha. More jobs out the window. You think these poverty stricken people are going to be buying cars from us? The only thing they will be doing is sending their kids here for their college education.
Cry patriotism. Rome fell when they ran out of raw materials (steel, timber) and their nation was filled with immigrants brought in for cheap labor who reproduced then at astounding rates, becoming the majority, only to be so unpatriotic they could not create an adequate army or an infrastructure as they were not deep patriots with a deep undying love for their land and constitution.
Rome stood for several thousand years and fell in less then 400 years.
In the end, corruption prevailed at the highest levels.
History will repeat itself. Not in our time but in your grandchildren's future, the situation will be irreversible. There simply has to be a middle class and the middle class need middle class jobs.
so many people was wishy-washy nowadays...love to see people make
a stand for what they believe in...
it is kind of wierd those statements have to be made in the first place but guess we are an ever-transitioning country and are still young. so many different beliefs yet not much tolerance.
I found your post respectful, and right on as to how you feel. it does not seem that difficult to sift through to read and respond to messages someone might not care for...
Just remember that it is not the people on this board who short changed their people and ONLY after
caught did they (after they were suied) make an effort to look good by sending out these checks. Now, think about this--had they done this many years ago when they short changed everyone, that would have been honest. Does it not bother you that only after they know they are under the gun that they are doing this to try and make themselves look good?
I used to work for MQ and I used to like what I did. I never can say I really liked the people that I worked with, but I really think they had some of the best accounts that I have ever come across in the MT industry. I loved working the major teaching hospitals that I did, but that certainly does not mean that I enjoyed being cheated out of pay.
So chill already. People have been cheated, were lied to, and only AFTER they got caught have they tried to return some of the money they robbed us of (as well as cheated their clients).
We all have reasons not to be happy with this company and you go off on us because we are complaining of things like small refund checks of a penny or a few cents or a few hundred dollars and NO WAY to even check to find out if this is correct?
I am sorry you are unhappy all of us thinking that there is still a dead rat in the cellar, but there is still a dead rat in the cellar and nothing will bring the dead rat back.
I would hold no love for a company that I know willingly cheated the very people who helped THEM make money out of their hard-earned money.
Go take a deep breath and think about that.
My people skills are just fine. I just want to hire people who want to work.
I've not been ugly, I've asked questions, legitimate ones. Please tell me what is wrong with that. This site is not just for MTs, it is for QA Editors, Supervisors, Service Owners, there's even sections for Billers, Coders, and Nurses.
rude people? I would take good pay over polite people any day
Besides that they have never been rude to me and I have been here for almost 2 years. What do you consider a bad account?
I know my account is a little tough, but I am used to it. I am tough!
Rude people? I hardly think so. They are some of the nicest people I have ever worked with. sm
Not just management, but QA as well. No one is rude. They are a very understanding staff. There is one account that is hard but all it takes is getting used to it. Once you are used to it, it is no harder than any other ESL account that you would do anyplace else. I have heard all these things about TH from the archives and I have yet to come across rudeness or any kind of thing that I have read about in the archives. I would definitely pursue them if I were you. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
2 people to do that amount of work, is she nuts? More like 20+ people - nm

Certain people getting raises, certain people not. Guess who is?
Say what you will about unions, the good and the bad. But, one thing they did ensure is a raise, good benefits and that you would have a job in the morning.
Yeah right, OF COURSE! How could there be other people who don't like QA people?
Could only be one. Hahaha. Dream on.
I agree, some people will never get it but, then again, what does it say about them as people? Not
.
I don't like people
