A good neighbor is worth a million bucks, they say this for a reason

Posted By: Feel your pain on 2006-02-28
In Reply to: loud foul-mouthed neighbor - advice wanted

I purchased a house at a remarkably reduced price because of a neighbor who was a lunatic. First thing I will do the next time I buy is try to get familiar with the neighbors bordering my home. Thank GOD, he moved but for several years, I had to get a restraining order and even with that, he used foul language, sometimes directed at me, tapped into my utilities, had loud fights with four letter words. I could even hear them in the bedroom going at it (yes, i know)... What I say is don't make her angry or she could make your life REALLY miserable. There will be times when you will not be home...people like her resort to all sorts of behavior, I have a feeling.

E-mail says I have been left 1/4 million bucks by distant relative. Do you think this is a scam?
I could really use the money.
You have a sound resume - you are worth a million to the right employer
MQ is just going cheap to prepare to pay out major money in lawsuits. Don't let this be a reflection on how you see yourself.

MQ always was considered the Wal-Mart of transcription companies.

The Red Cross just HANDED OUT $5 million worth of debit cards in Texas.
FEMA decided to mail them in 14 days if the people knew where they were going to be...couldn't possibly get them out faster...too much work...etc.
No - not worth 12 bucks an hour when you can make triple that by the line, sm
but that all depends on what company and VR platform you are talking about.
50 bucks for 4 hours? good deal!

You're right, you could be my neighbor. My neighbor is flaky, too.
:+
It could be any reason. You could be really good
in which case they're dumping all the garbage on you that nobody else can do.  Or as some people on this board say, maybe they're trying to force you out.  (I highly doubt that!)  It's been my experience that if you show that you're eager to work and skilled, you'll get the stuff nobody else wants to do.
I say she was screaming with good reason
If you don't want to work for her, then don't apply. It's a free country.
I can think of a good reason why...CYA and audit!!!!!!!!!! nm
/
Good reason to smack this doc...
She dictates diagnoses, giving three or four detailed diagnoses and then says, "etcetera, etcetera, etcetera"

OK, do I get to make up additional diagnoses for her? This is at the top of the report, so it's not like she's saying go back and copy admission diagnoses for discharge ones. (Not that THAT would be ok, either!) Am I supposed to read her mind? Or is this just a verbal tick that pops up whenever she's done dictating a list of diagnoses?

Garrrragh!
Of course it was - too many people still believe we went there for a good reason. nm

Most MTSO want good MT. Not worth losing one
x
Also, good MTs hard to find. Might be worth
x
If you were that good, you would have no reason to complain about it. Maybe you should just ignore
it, but apparently YOU DO have a problem with editors. If you are that good, maybe you will become an editor and SEE exactly what we are talking about!!
It is worth it though. I couldn't make a good living without.
x
I just emailed you the link. Yes, it's worth it. Good Luck.

What happent to the MTSO that pays what a good MT is worth.
I'm tired of the MTSO that promises great pay, nice dictators, affordable insurance, etc. 90% is all bull. On what planet is 8cpl or less great pay. You either have WAY more ESLs that you admit to or you have EFLs that talk out their rears. Be honest with your ads!
Good for you. There is no reason any hard working MT should put up with that crap. nm
:)
A good tax guy is worth his weight. He will help you find deductions and if any probs with IRS,

Good article--worth thought, rather than just reacting. Thanks, Anony.NM

I do not get when "in a rush" became a good reason to not find your own answers..
better up my meds I guess.
No reason to feel good about it. Just showing that kids are going to get into trouble
So let them learn how to function in society rather than hide them from it.
Maybe that's a good thing - it's a reason for the Indian docs to GO HOME

I didn't know I need to post EVERY reason I got into MT...Good God! **rolling eyes***
I stand by my posts as well. YES I did say my children, but pardon me for not listing EVERY SINGLE REASON I got into MT. My children are always number one at the top of my priority list as they should be and that's why I mentioned them. And no, I'm having a good day, but I am astounded with the nastiness on these boards. I've never seen such unahppy people. Is this was MT does to a person?
Always comes down to the bucks, they can sugarcoat but is the bucks!

God gave us the ability to judge for good reason. Then told us judge not, lest thou be judged. NM

that's the million $ question! sm
I know how you feel, girlfriend! I'm barely hanging on, having to sit and work everyday!  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated on how to get over this "hump"!
God I would not in a million years...
work for that person. How ridiculous. But I wonder where she works? Have my suspicions....
If you don't like Red Bull, there are a million others to try.
:+
No, a million times no.
They have certainly not done thier best as advocates for MTs. They've done thier best to do whatever it takes to make them more money, not us - especially the part about the visible characters only - that one really got me riled! I have since dropped my membership with the AAMT or whatever they call themselves now, and let my acredidation lapse - it never helped me get a job anyway. Actually, I was turned down for several because with the CMT after my name, I was "overqualified." There are so many things they could have done as an advocate organization for MTs, first and foremost making sure that transcription of American records stayed in America. Then they could have worked with the MTSOs to advocate for fairer pay for MTs, keeping up with inflation, etc so that MTs could actually make a living doing what we do. I think that anyone in the AAMT/AHDI is so far removed from the career of an MT that they really have no idea what it's about anymore - kind of like the government, but that's for a different board =)
I know you'll justify this with a million
lines of -- that's not what I meant - I meant this or that or this or that. Believe me, as a kid whose mother had that YAHOO SHE'S BACK IN SCHOOL attitude, it HURTS. Your kids sense it, and its damaging to them. Try to hide your joy that they're out of your hair - for their sake.  Not trying to bash, just trying to show their side. The bus stop used to be in front of my house for years, and first days of school, always 10 or 12 parents standing with their kids. There were always 1 or 2 mothers who would cheer just as you, as the bus pulled away, and their kids were always looking back out the window at their mothers cheering. Always made the rest of us cringe for those poor kids...
for that much - I would keep working. Now if I hit the PowerBall at 100 million - sm
I'd quit working and open up an orphanage or home for the homeless and down children in this country. Ideally, it would be a horse ranch - farm type.

I would love to help all of the poor and starving children in this country, even helpless moms too! That is my dream.

I do have 2 children of my own and very fortunate to have a great MT job with a good hard-working husband.

That is a million dollar question

I think they are just being pains.  There are some people they bend over backwards for, some they don't work with at all and unfortunately I am at the lower end of the stick, it seems.   I had a coworker quit and went to work for an on-line service because they would not let her have Sundays off so she could go to church with her family even though they had adequate coverage on Sunday and by Thursday we were always out of work.

HAHAHA ... Now there's your million-dollar idea!
.
Million Dollar Movie? Was on every night...sm
on TV and you could watch the same movie for a week?  I remember a lot of James Cagney movies shown on that Million Dollar Movie - *lol*
Live in big city, 2+ million, with state pen and fed pen

This question has been asked 1 million times.
First, start by looking through the posts on this board. You should be able to find plenty of information through those postings.
Agree 1 million percent about the elderly
HMOs is what I assume you mean as managed care??? I don't like them at all but am stuck with one through the city insurance when I was hurt on the police dept. However, I have been extremely fortunate in Virginia Beach area to have some of the best doctors and the payment is low. I have been through the ringer and back int the whew 14 yrs now since my accident. But I have never been denied a test or a treatment. I did have my beloved neurosurgeon leave because of HMO regulations. But he came back to the area once they met his demands. He is a patient first doctor hands down all of mine are. Where are you from. I here all this garbage about terrible health care etc. etc. I honest to God have had zero problems with mine. I could pay extra and get the pick your own doctor insurance for about dbl what I pay for an HMO but all my doctors are on the list and I am happy. My dad is on Medicare at 80 and has had no problems with any care. Nor did my mom before she passed away. Which was her fault she wouldn't go to the doctor and had breast CA but that's a whole other topic. When she finally did go to the doc and it had spread to her bones, she got great care and at a minimal cost. Several operations, tests, chemo, radiation the works...I don't understand. They took Medicare or Medicaid whichever one you get when you are of age and got the AARP supplement and did fine with it...

Or in the case of our government, a million wrongs don't make it right, but ...

doesn't stop Uncle Sam from wronging us on a daily basis.  Look, the bottom line is I will do what I have to do to feed, clothe, and house my kids.  I don't feel guilty about finding shortcuts around the enormous mountains the government puts in my way nor should Doxie.  She's trying to take care of her grandkids so her kids can go to the middle east and serve their country and us all.  A woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do.

You can call me a thief.  My conscience is clear.  My kids are healthy, well-fed, and have a home.  I give to charity, tithe to my church, and volunteer at the food pantry in my town.  I give back when I can -- not to the government, but to my community!

I am not the only person in American who stives to pay as little taxes to the government as I can.  The government cheats us all.  Do two wrongs make a right?  I'm not trying to make a right, I'm just trying to survive.

I have a neighbor who is always... sm

pestering me to "teach her to do what I do".  She stopped over one time while I was working and said it again... This time I stacked every one of my reference books up, handed them to her and told her "Go home and memorize these.  Then we'll talk about it".  Needless to say she hasn't mentioned it since.

They were after the other neighbor.
They came over and asked if we had seen anyone at the neighbor's house.  Uh, no, I don't watch my neighbors all day long.
My neighbor has one. I would
like to get one, but cannot afford it right now.  He paid around $10,000.  That includes installation I think.  He uses it to heat his home and has radiant floor heat and uses that to heat the water pipes in his flooring.  It is way cool. It looks like a metal shed almost outside his house.  He is saving lots of money, but it does make smoke, so you would have to be in an area that is zoned for it.
My neighbor had one (sm)
and they are VERY high energy. They have a tendency to experience separation anxiety also. I can tell you they are not like most big dogs, in that they have a strong personality of their own and you have to dedicate a lot of time to training them.
My neighbor has/had PKD- he is 51 now - sm
He has had it for years, since he was about 35 or so. He has always been a vegatarian and the doctors said that helped him stay healthy as long as he did. He did start to eat meat and eggs some though as he got worse for the protein though. He was doing quite well until about 18 months ago when he started getting worse. He ended up have right and left radical nephrectomies, and lived on peritoneal dialysis at home and used a cycler at night. He was due to have a transplant about 2 weeks or so after the double nephrectomy but unfortunately at the last minute the donor was deemed unacceptable after they looked at her kidneys via a CT (to figure out which one to take) and found issues with hers with blood vessels and the fact that her kidneys were not functioning at 100% capacity (about 60% between the 2 of them), so that nixed the transplant. Luckily he did very well on dialysis (he has some other issues going on as well such as permanent vertigo due to the former hospital he was going to screwed up and have him the wrong antibiotics when the PD access got infected--ones you do not give a patient with no kidneys and he ended up with antibiotic poisoning which unfortunately resulted in permanent damage). So he ended up on the transplant list. Fortunately for him a young blood relative with no sign of PKD stepped forward and donated a kidney in January. He has done great and the donor has done quite well too. He still cannot drive or work due to the veritgo but is trying to get better with that with some PT though I don't think it will ever go away. I am "on-call" if he ever needs anything since I am usually home and his wife works about 35 minutes away. I don't see them too often but I know he is well as his wife and I email on a regular basis. Obviously everyone is different, but I do a lot of kidney transplant reports and for the most part they go very well. I have only done about 10 or so due to PKD though, most kidney failures are due to other issues from what I can tell from my experience anyways. All I can say it read up, ask plenty of questions and don't be shy about asking friends and relatives about a transplant when/if it comes to that. The list can take anywhere from 2-5 years or longer and they won't list you until you need it basically. You have to meet the parameters of need first. I hope it all works out for you though.
