A cent more per line... we are talking a penny here people - a PENNY. SM

How does that make it worth it in your mind?  You pay $298 for a certification test that is slanted in their favor - you have to memorize their rules!  And then you a whole penny more per line?

I would hope that you have enough self-respect to believe that you are worth more than a penny more per line!

Mine cost almost $200 and worth every penny
If you are working with sound files, this is the way to go. Can digitally remix and fix these using their software.
Used to be CMT - Sorry I let it go. A penny is a LOT...@1000 lines a day, it's $2,580 a year - I&

I can think of a lot of things I could do with an extra $2,580 a year - a great  vacation, a down payment on a used car, new office equipment, or tons of supplies for my hobbies.   I was an original grandfathered CMT - but it took a lot of medical conventions, journal reading, and paperwork to keep it up.  I kept my CMT for 14 years.  Then in one of the hardest years of my life, while concentrating on some overwhelming personal concerns, I lef it go because I didn't want to take the time to fill out the paperwork.  I regretted that the very next year.    I have worked for MTSO's who paid a premium, and some who didn't.  So some years it would not have done me any financial good.  I don't think the MTSO I work for now pays extra for CMT, but I know they value it.  I think I will start carrying my AAMT Book of Style around with me for a few months, and then sit for the certificate again.  But I emphasize that IF your MTSO pays more, it is a no-brainer to go for it, in my PERSONAL CASE I will do it for my own satisfaction.  Everyone may not agree with everything in the Book of Style, but it is a good thing to start from a foundation that makes sense.  You have to choose one, and the Book of  Style is available and makes sense.           Anyway, again, a penny is a lot ... in most cases at or more than 10 percent - who doesn't want a 10 percent raise?       Wise

Penny wise and pound foolish
Cheap ones don't save in voice files. They're hard to use so most likely your doc will not bother to pause or rewind for dictation. You may save some money now but you will end up wasting more time to decipher the recording. The best one is Olympus DS5000... every word can be heard clearly with that.
OMG! You are a riot! Maybe they should give you 19 cpl and run a huge corp on a penny?
and screaming poverty! And if you work for 8 cpl, well, then that's YOUR problem! You take peanuts for pay, and then complain about it! Go figure.
I agree, Frizz-Ease is the best. Worth every penny. nm

Stay way from Penny Talk - you will constantly be disconnected..sm

It was nothing but a big mess.  Everytime I tried to pound off a job, it would disconnect me, and then charge me the 69 cents to reconnect, which I ended up doing about 50 times a day.  Not an option for any MT.  I have always used Vonage and have had no problems.  If all else fails, stay with onesuite.com until you can find a permanent unlimited long distance plan.  Good luck!

A big waste of effort and money. You won't make 1 penny more.

Sure could. It was a nickel and a penny. Then they made King Size Cokes that you SM
had to pay a dime for. Cigarettes were 28 cents. You put in a quarter and a nickel (the machine) and you got a pack of cigarettes with two pennies in the cellophane. Ugh. I'm really telling on myself here.

I think I would just send an email and say, I know it is a system problem, and I have been available as schedule and waiting around, but since I did have prior plans that cannnot be cancelled, I will have to sign off my regular time. Perhaps, I can add a few minutes on consecutive days to try and recoup. (this shows your commitment but HEY!!!

9-cent line count
I just signed on as an IC at a local clinic getting 9 cpl base, up to 10.5 cpl. I don't get paid for spaces, just characters, and there are very few ESLs on the account. I think that you will get paid more as an IC, but you don't get your taxes taken out, so it kind of balances out.
So, at the 1 extra cent per line . . .
with making an extra $6000 per year, you are transcribing 50,000 lines per month?  Wow.  I'm impressed.
OMG - this company only CHARGES 1/cent a line. WTF?

What is this???/!!!!!!!!

"At a cost of only 1 cent per line, USA Tasp offers a Secure Web Enabled environment, which allows Medical Transcription Service Owner the ability to manage their dictations, transcription, quality of the medical record, invoicing, and payroll.

So, whether you have 5,000 lines per month or 500,000 lines per month, be assured that your cost per line remains the same."

My pay went up 1 cent a line when I obtained my CMT credential.
x 26 pay periods a year.  Nothing to sneeze at and definitely worth the effort.
How about 1 cent a line being cheap. That equals only $10. for 1000 lines which
is really not an incentive to work either. Why not make it more like time and a half, i.e., if you normally make 10 cents a line when you would get 15. They could even offer 1/4 pay incentive so you could make an extra $25 to work a holiday but the $50 would certainly make me think more about working a day when I usually wouldn't. Yes, it would cost the company more but I'm sure more people will be working that weekend for such an "incentive."
USATasp charges 10 cents per minute for voice & 1/2 cent per line
email to info@usatasp.com and we'll get back to you.
is this the person who makes 1 cent a line extra for $6000 a year?
how many lines a day and what do you normally make in a year because to reach an extra $6000 wouldn't you have to be typing way above average which is say 1200 a day for most of us, or 6000 lines a week.

encouraging someone to get their CMT based on $6000 a year extra, perhaps you could give more details because I have never worked for a company who would do that, not unless perhaps you were also a huge producer of lines.

Thank you...
I think we may be talking about 2 different people
I was defending KB. You-know-who is really trying to get to her.
Yep, I figure 0.01 is 1 cent, so 0.005 is 1/2 cent.

On another forum they were talking about the people
There are over 50,000 people packed in there.  If the structure holds, and that's a big if, the bottom level will flood.  The upper level is 35 feet high so all those people will have to be on one level.  The problem is magnified with 50,000+ people, the possibility of no electricity, no air conditioning, no food or water as the dome has not been designated as a diaster shelter previously.  It will basically become a giant indoor swimming pool isolated as an island.  It will be days before rescue can happen.  I shudder to think what they will find when this is all over.
Are the people who are talking about a refund only the ones on DQS? (nm)

Finally - people who know what I'm talking about

It's really nice to finally find somewhere where I can say things like ESL, and almost everyone knows what it means.  Forgive me if I tend to ramble... it's nice being "around" people on the same playing field.

I am a stay-at-home mom with a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old (neither in daycare) and I don't get out much.  I'm relocated from a small town in Ohio and haven't met many friends (because I don't get out much), so basically I only have my husband, his mother, the kids, and the dog to talk to.  NOTHING about my work seems to be able to penetrate into my husband's head; he's a great guy and pretty smart (most of the time), but this just isn't his thing.

Thanks again for letting me rant -- please don't be too hard on me; I've been sheltered for a long time now

Hhmm, what I saw were people talking about

this is too funny when you're probably talking to people
who have a lot more weight to lose than you must have and will probably NEVER see the size 8 that you started at. only a dream for me, that's for sure!
take a cent of their rate and a cent of your mom's rate. I'd do it to keep the account or the

You already charge a fairly low line rate, but I'd definitely cut it to keep the account.  JMO

They don't pay QA people $.08 per line.
And they don't expect MTs to be able to type 350 lph.
Probably because the off-shore people will take 2 cents a line.
That's not a workable wage in America.
Question for QA people who are paid by the line.
I recently accepted a QA position that pays 3.5 cpl. I will be a full time employee with this company. What is the average amount of lines per pay period - that you are able to QA?

I know that this varies per person, but I'm trying to get a better idea of what I can expect to earn.

Thanks
what do the middle people make per line?
I may be negotiating a contract directly with a radiology business, but I"ve only done independent contractor work up until now.  I'd like to enter into negotiations seeming like I know my way around the block:  what do companies (who hire transcriptionists) tend to make per line?  How would I find that out?
Wait a minute, I'm not just talking about the boards, I'm talking about the news article.

Specifically,

"JLG has a contract with Arrendale Associates/ A+Network/CBay Scribe, which the group says is in India.
A letter from JLG to Barbara Dingman, chief compliance officer and director of health information management, says all medical transcriptionists assigned to the Medical Center Hospital account live in the U.S. and all work is done in America."

But yet they do business with Arrendale/A+/CBay, what am I missing here?

Is 0.005 only 1/2 a cent?
bonus amt is 0.005, is this cheap or I am greedy.
1/2 cent=0.025.
0.005 is 5/1000th of a dollar.
yes .. 0.005 is 1/2 cent

my shift differential for asr is 1/2 cent from 6-11 and 1 cent from 11-7

when I calculate it .. i go from 0.048 to .053, which is 0.005 ..

stinks so bad ..

1 cent refund
that is absolutely unbelievable -- they are totally out of it!! i would definitely be calling and asking what were they thinking?
Would think that it SHOULD be 0.01 cent per word OR

Just half-cent thoughts...
I know this is too long, but wanted to give you a few tips. Sounds like you're one of those employees of medical offices (and many, many types of offices) that isn't set up on clear job descriptions for the workers--and then stick to it. Not all practice managers really know how to run an office efficiently. You have lots of issues here, but just for me curiously, why on earth would you invest in your own equipment (unless you really wanted it anyway) and still be considered an "employee." Do you have other work where you can write off your expenses? In our city (and in many organizations, many MTSOs) there is a hospital that has home workers, but they bring the hospital equipment to the MT's home for them to use. That's how they get to tell you how and when to work. I've worked in offices most of my adult life where people grumble out of habit all the time. You may not be that kind of person, and you may be grumbling in vain or just burned out. It's sad but true that many offices don't have the luxury of being managed properly, nor does anyone have personal knowlege of knowing how to set up a bona fide transcription department. Maybe that's where you could make some changes. Make yourself a "department" not just an employee. Take the lead and define yourself. It's called intrapreneurship--you create your own little venture as an employee but see yourself yourself a "small business owner" in your own mind. You could make up a plan to present a better work option to your employers based on research and projected outcome that this change may benefit all involved. Personally, I don't think you'll get anywhere by taking the defensive line here (though you have set a precedent). However, agression and resistance won't work either. You have to "create" your spot and show how it will profit the greater good proactively. And if you're getting insurance benefits for this home/office pattern you are requested do to keep your job, lady, count your MT blessings. Also, I'll bet many MTs working at home probably wouldn't mind having to "go into the office" on some days. Sure beats the isolation and might make you feel more connected to the real world. Best of luck to you.
And you might earn another 1/2 to 1 cent more working
s
I believe it is about 4 cpl for either, give or take half a cent. nm

ONE CENT? That shows its not worth it ROFLMBO!!!

Is that half-cent worth selling out to an
organization that has been pro-active in sending our jobs to India? To me it isn't. The good of our entire industry is worth more to me than my own personal greed for those VERY FEW extra dollars. That's why I let my CMT expire.
Half of a cent! Wowee-zowee! Where do
