Had to start taking this 2-1/2 years ago. My doc says it is the lowest dose I can be on, twice a week patch, 0.1 mg. It works well for me.

I had a hysterectomy at 40, ovaries were left in, but then I had to have the ovaries removed because of recurring cysts.

I had suffered for 5 months with hot flashes, night sweats, the works. I tried OTC products but nothing worked for me. My doc also tried Effexor, says that sometimes can help with the hot flashes, it did for only a month and then back to the nightmare.

I am going to try to wean off them in September. My doc wants me to be on it until I am 50, but I want to get off now. I have had no complications, but I am nervous about HRT of any kind. I do not know what will happen, but going to give it a try.

I have heard of the bio-identical hormones and probably would be the best course for you considering your family history. I think it would be worth a try. You shouldn't have to feel so bad. Talk to you doc some more and look into this further.

Good Luck
