I hated it also and am now doing MT again.
At least we can say we tried it and didn't like it. I love transcribing and will never do QA again! This, after transcribing for 25 years and QA for 5. Can't believe it took me 5 years to realize how much I hated it. I was miserable and am very happy now, again!

I can relate!
I have tried one and hated it sm
I finally gave up and went back to the regular flat one. HOWEVER, when I did, I found I was holding my hands differently than I had previously. I went to an ergo to help hand and wrist pain, but it really didn't do much. Adjusting how I hold my wrists, paying attention to other issues of ergonomics and retraining myself is what really helped enormously.

Been in the 3 worst professions for carpal tunnel and these are the only types of jobs I have held in my adult life. Carpal tunnel? Not me! The first local AAMT meeting I ever attended addressed issues related to hand position, chair height and other work station problems. That is probably why I am still comfortable working all these years later.
I hated it...
We used EditScript and I hated the platform so much that when I found out we were going back to it, I quit. That is the first time I've ever had a problem with a platform. I didn't mind the actual VR work or the typing...I just felt that there were too many things that had to checked, double checked, triple checked (location codes, WT codes, demographic settings, etc) and yet I wasn't getting paid to do any of that. Not to mention the spellcheck was a total waste of time.

Kind of off topic but the company I worked for paid 3.5 for VR and 7 for straight, but I was QA so it was easy for me to accumulate tons of lines daily...but I definitely wouldn't want to work like that as an MT.
Hated my first year
I really hated my first year of MT. I worked in an office, which was really great experience to be surrounded by other MTs who helped me learn, but I was always frustrated, my back and shoulders hurt getting used to sitting in place all day, and I wondered if I was ever going to be able to get up to a good speed and not have to look up 20 things in every report. After about a year I finally started getting in the groove of things and for the next few years tolerated it and then finally started enjoying it.
Favorite most hated dictators......
His reports are 15-20 minutes long.......and about 7 pages of dictation and about and hour of whistling to fill the caps when he is looking for information in the chart. To top it off.......he dictates in a monotone. My eardrums are killing me!
I did and hated every minute of it. I am now back to
SE and so much happier. I couldn't handle the sitting for eight scheduled hours every day. I like the flexibility of getting my required lines for the day and then typing more whenever I can. Fortunately, I didn't need the insurance benefits (my husband carries insurance) and I went back to SE after seven months of full time. I am sure there are people who love full-time, just not me. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best. Have a great day!
I had it for a year and hated it and changed the day after my

contract was up.  Download speed is not dependable - it can be fast or as slow as dial-up.  Uploads are usually faster as they are usually are text files, which are much smaller than a voice file.   If you have trees that may have branches that will blow in front of the dish during windy weather you may lose service.  If it is raining hard of snowing hard you can and probably will lose service.   I had service with DirecWay and their customer service stinks.

Can you get cable internet?

we are hated all over the world today....
x
I'm with you, Peg. I hated EMDAT. I will never touch
Demographics weren't filled in and had to look up every doctor name/address, and sorry, but the spellcheck was horrid. Even with the "setup" the company gave me that was supposed to correct it, it was the worst I've ever seen. Please, Rosey, do not make such broad statements and expect everyone to love something merely because you do. A lot depends on how the company maintains their platform. Have you ever worked on any other platforms? EMDAT is one of the most cumbersome programs out there so I doubt you've had much experience with more sophisticated platforms.
She said she hated the laptop but was hesitant to get another. That is why I said wait.
:+
DSG offered me 10 to start. BUT they are on DQS and I hated that, so left after sm
a few months! Good luck! Yes, you do deserve it.
Friend was there, hated it, payement & system issues, etc. I'd say No. nm
s
My kids hated organized sports and groups. They

are both social, happy kids, but enjoy spending their spare time with Lego's, pets and especially reading. My 5th grader reads at an 11th grade reading level and my freshman reads well beyond college level. Both enjoy school very much and are on the Challenge tracks, A's and B's. But I think they have learned how to entertain themselves and enjoy a slower pace because we don't have a T.V. Definitely gears down the speed of life.

I knew him well before I asked him out, so I knew
a long time before our first date that he was the one for me. He didn't know it that soon, but I did.
This actually looks do-able. I haven't dieted since a teen. Hated obsessing about food.
dd
I hated it - but if you do go ahead with it, I have the proprietary foot pedal you'll need that I
x
Hated it. The office politics, the dressing up, the back-stabbing. I do in 4 hours what I did in 8
at home.  That hospital environment with all those women backstabbing, worrying about how long other people took for breaks or lunch, who was in favor with the supervisor, who fit in with the cliques,  UGGGGGGHHHHH!   I can't believe I am saying this but MQ looks good compared to those days now that you got me to thinking.  (Not that good pay-wise/benefit-wise though)
I knew it had to be you! - sm
Sorry you are having trouble and I hope it is fixed soon!  Don't work too hard!
Of course she knew that (sm)
She obviously hasn't had her own medication today.
What about it? We already knew about that..
huh?
See? You knew someone would ask... sm
I try to be concise too, but sometimes you just gotta throw it all in there.

Your reasons are totally justified and I figured they were just by the tone of your post, but for future reference we need ALL THE FACTS!! LOL

Have fun, sweetie!
I knew almost right away

I'd say it was at the very early stages of our relationship that I started to realize that i could marry him.. then I kept telling myself "what are you nutz? you barely know this guy! stop thinking that!! LOL

But now looking back, there was some kind of "special spark" that was there & that was unique from any other experience. We both remember when we first (very briefly) met. We didnt actually start talking and getting to know each other until about 5 months after that. Then when we started talking/dating, it was like we had known each other for yrs, we were just immediately comfortable with each other & had this "chemistry".

it was great, it still is great, i hope it stays great!!

Wish I knew
x
Um, I knew when I was 5.
and no one did a thing to me. Gosh, there goes your theory! Sorry 'bout that.
I knew there was something about the IBM M15

Maybe the folks at Clickykeyboards.com could give you some leads on where to get it repaired, if not the other site I posted above.

Once again, good luck!

I knew it!!!
I "frickin" knew you meant that how I took it! Yay! Another fan! Got my laugh for the night! Thanks!
If you knew then what you know now....
I've been an MT now for almost 10 years.  I don't know about you but I didn't really give MT a lot of thought before I decided to get into this business.  It seemed like a good way to go with my typing skills and interest in the medical field.  Plus it sort of "fell into my lap" with an opportunity that was too good to pass up.  So I plunged in and starting learning what I needed to get started and took it from there.  Wow, what a long journey and I'm still learning new things all the time.  Looking back I really don't think I would have gone into this field had I known all the blood, sweat and tears required just in order to get started, not to mention even now keeping things going day to day.  I am honestly glad I did stick with it because it has worked very well for my family situation over the years.  Some days I am fed up with it but it has so many other benefits that outweigh the negatives.  So, I keep sticking with it and keep going day to day.  How about you?  If you knew then how hard it would be would you have run the other way?  I know I probably would have but I am glad I didn't have a clue and kept plugging away.
Wow! I never knew that, though we have
spoken many times. I had no idea you - disallowed - offshore MTs to post here? That is really sad to me, but I'm glad I know now. Your 100% right as owner of the board, but also my choice to now not be a part of something like that. Thanks for sharing.
WOW - I never knew that
nm
thanks - I already knew that....*L*...sm

but because of what you said, I went back in to windows update and told it to let me know when they are available and not to download or install them until I say it's okay.

oh well, looky looky - Windows update is trying to install IE7 - so you're incorrect I do believe:

Thanks so much..just knew there had to be a way! nm

I knew right away because I keep

my TV on (in another room) and just happened to be getting a drink of water when the first one hit. I immediately called the hospital I work for and they told me to keep them informed. Well, I could barely tear myself away from the TV that day. Thank heavens, my hospital was very understanding. I reported every time something happened which, on that day, was about every half hour.

I also had scanners in my office and would inform the hospital MTs when the ER was diverting patients, or if there was a bad accident or fire, so they would get a heads up for STAT work coming their way. It worked out well.

I couldn't work without noise of some type. With the job I have now, I only have the TV on but not the scanners anymore. I listen to the traffic reports as my husband works 60 miles away and needs that info if traffic is tied up on his route to or from work.

I knew somebody who
went to a dermatologist for it. The dermatologist gave her injections into the scalp. I believe it was prednisone or something like that.

I remember going to school with somebody who had a patch on the side of his head that he'd had since he was very little. It didn't show as long as he didn't get his hair cut short.
Yes, I knew that because
I have searched for medical-related terms before and got responses from where someone else had asked the same thing on here!
Never knew that.

That set-up sounds so simple and cost-effective as well.  I didn't know you used steno pads.  The carbon paper would terrify me, though!

I knew it!!!!

So really, the only GOOD JOBS out there are for Newbies or Indians!!!!

Great.

Can't be V-day, most of us have been out for 2 weeks.
nm
I got a second job 3 weeks ago to
help with our debt.  Hubby cannot work.  No children left at home. It is tiring, but I am hoping to get ahead.
Going on 4 weeks.
I type with a headache and it is so wearing on me and my body. I cant get rid of it and it kills me. I went to the doctor and he said it was from my neck muscles strained and sinus both, so he put me on some medication. I am not sure it is taking it away though, since it has been a week with just little improvement. I have had my eyes checked and everything. What are rebound headaches exactly? I just wish I could get rid of myn as well.
Four weeks for me, sm
I went back at 4 weeks after having c-section because I was working at home.  My husband was not happy, but I only worked about 3-4 hours a day in the beginning because I had the baby, but it really was not that bad.  I would try to be most productive when the baby was sleeping.
Yes, 4-6 weeks. nm
xx
I just have one done this way 2 weeks ago - sm
no big deal. I did conscious sedation, though I did not have a choice, but I would think this is the safer way to go (cheaper too). I experienced no discomfort at all during or afterwards. Don't remember the colonoscopy at all. Last thing I remember is them injecting my IV, saying it would sting (it did), next thing I knew my kids and friend who brought me were standing in there looking at me. I was very groggy though, half slept on the drive home, came home and conked out for 2 hours. Awoke feeling much more alert and back to normal. Just make sure you follow the prep instructions to a "T". Got a copy of my report which said my prep was excellent!
I did after about 1-1/2 weeks

but I should have quit sooner (Medquist). They misrepresented (I'm being nice here) the type of work I would have. When there was work (constantly ran out), I spent most of my time looking up names of physicians for the demographics. It was a nightmare. After a few reports, I'd get the dreaded "There are no more reports. Please press...."  Then I'd call the office and if I was lucky, someone would return my call in an hour....Like I said, I didn't want to feel like a quitter either, but I finally figured that they weren't treating me like a valuable employee, why should I hang in there when no one would even return my calls?  My previous employer took me right back, and  thankfully hadn't found a permanent replacement for my accounts!  If I ever search again, I will try the new place out first part-time before jumping into the flame.

Every day for two weeks now, I was out of
work for months and thankfully, even right before Christmas, no doubt, I have a job now that keeps me busy, almost busier than I want to be, but I am making so much money right now, I don't care! It's feast or famine!
I wonder about this. Every few weeks
someone puts up a post that they just discovered this wonderful website. What is going on?????
A few weeks ago someone

on this forum was saying she bought 2003 with 2008 Works for 48.00 or so on E-Bay, from a seller in Arizona.  Another person wrote a message that it wasn't 2003 with 2008 Works but 2002, but the original poster said it was INDEED 2003 and she was using it!  You might try search?

I remember this post because it interested me in that I needed a copy of 2003 & was willing to buy it through E-Bay.  Luckily, my hubby works for computer manufacturer in testing division.  They had an unused copy of 2003 that they didn't really need or want as they said this was "old technology" & they let me have it!    Made my day!

I have learned something!! I never knew this was possible!
I've always thought liquids damaged/ruined keyboards, but I guess I was wrong. What a good idea you all have!!
Wow, I never knew that existed!
At least you were spared 35 or more years of that "monthly" stuff!!!
This is exactly when I knew it was time to
I found myself losing my social skills and having nothing to talk about to my husband when he got home.

Time to move on and be back in society. I'm much happier and feel like an interesting conversationalist again.
Wish I knew what company this is (sm)
Only because I'm applying to several different companies and would love to avoid the situation you describe.  Sometimes criticisms can be subjective, but the thing about the faxes is a big red flag to me.  Worked for a company like that very briefly once.  I quit and put my fax machine in the attic.  My email is here if you feel comfortable sharing that way.  If not, I will definitely be sure to avoid any company that requires a fax machine (was planning on doing that anyway, though).  Good luck and sorry you're having such a hard time.
wish I knew where to go to make
more $$$ than my female counterparts.  I have been doing this for 20 years and would still be making the same as when I started, except I am much faster now and work fewer hours.
