would be the way to go. My DH used to have to do on-call for some equipment his company had in a local plant here. He was on-call one week out of every month as it was rotated with 3 other techs so they would have a break as this was 24/7 for 1 week. We got the odd call at 3 a.m. which stunk and he had to go in right away to deal with the problem, but he got $400 extra a week for doing this, and it was over 5 years, and he probably got called in maybe 5 times, so it can be worthwhile. He hated it just because he felt tied down that week and could not have more than 2 beers those nights, but he lived, and it helped out our finances a lot. I missed it when it was gone, but by then I was working so it really did not matter. He also got extra if he had to go in in the middle of the night. During regular business hours he did not, but any other time he got mucho extra $$$$ on top of the $400, very sweet deal. I think it would have to be worth my while to be on-call, especially if they happened to call you in a lot. If you do it, I'd leave a clause that the fees were to be reviews and renegotiated/increased as necessary at the end of 3 months or something like that.
I would give minimum of 2 weeks' notice
and would not want to burn any bridges so would let them know I would be willing to work a little after that if they got in a pinch but would not take the usual amount and only in an emergency type situation. Have been in this biz long enough not to burn any bridges and keep all contacts if possible - you NEVER EVER know when you might need work again. Good luck!

Give the pred a couple of days, although
pred can also cause leg weakness. Possibly anesthesia effect or effects of positioning. I wouldn't think too likely but if lipoma was deep possibly some nerve damage. You could also try some massage. Hope she/he is better tomorrow.
Give her the same amount of work on the days
near the end of the pay period that she seems to be doing the rest of the days. I worked for a friend's niece, and if she did not think you were going to get the work done, she would yank it from you even if you were frantically trying to get it done. She has a TAT to meet, and good accounts are hard to come by.

He has had a part-time job all along. He works for a landscaping service in the summer months and for a local jewelry store during the winter months (but being a student, neither job pays very much) and has paid for some things like his books, spending money, gas money, etc., so he is helping a bit. almost 100% ASR, can't make any money on the garbage it spits out, many, many corrections most reports, no promises ever kept by them. Not even any time at 50/50, from the start almost 100% ASR, can type it much faster than can make the constant corrections.

Your first instincts were CORRECT - stay home with your baby! Your baby needs YOU - not some total stranger raising him for the majority of its life. PLEASE don't listen to the negativity. This board is the worst place for that, really. Go to any other MT board and you'll get tons of encouraging words. It makes NO sense that your baby would be better off without you. Think about your words. You have to know in your heart that that's not true. I learned the business and taught myself (horrors on this board as well) when my first child was born, and was transcribing by the time she was 6 months old, again, many days holding her on my lap for a half hour or so. But they take NAPS all the time, especially that young. You work out an easy schedule around the baby, and it DOES work, if you want it to work. and if you rarely buy anything but food and the barest essentials in clothing. My balancing act is so precarious that all it'll take is one of life's little disasters (rent increase, sick pet, major car repair) to pull the rug out from under me. Not a good feeling at all.
I carry my mail in, sort it immediately, and put the junk in the trash.

DANSKOS, but when any part of my legs starts hurting, I immediately do several leg stretches
fixes them right away. One thing though, you have to get a pair of really good shoes now - my daughter-in-law got me a pair of Danskos because she wears them (on her feet all day as an ICU nurse) - that was five years ago - they made a tremendous difference and now I wouldn't wear any others. There are other good shoes out there and you DO have to pay for them, but it's worth it.
My problem now is my back up between the shoulder blades - the only thing that helps there is to stop typing and apply heat. Right elbow is usually achy too, but that goes away when I rest it.

i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.
there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.

minimum wage is Fed
I know some cities/counties and I guess states have their minimum wage requirement to allow a business to operate. I know some cities in NJ (where I live now) won't allow a business to operate unless they pay minimum around $9/hour. But minimum wage is a Federal standard and is set at $6.XX an hour - that is for all 52 states.
And it is illegal for anyone to pay less. Actually, I found out that if you are working for someone on a production basis and it comes out to less than Fed. min. wage, you can actually file a complaint and recoup wages.
