I have the monitor set so the narrowest sides are at the top and bottom. Being able to see a whole page at once in Word makes it much easier to proof.

How does it work full-time to have rotating weekends
My brain is fried with all this job hunting and I can't think. All MTSOs want weekend commitments now. If I offer to do rotate every other weekend for Saturday and Sunday, what does my schedule look like so that I still have two days together off, and without working 7 straight days (hope this makes sense...I'm so tired :(.
Buying a new computer and cant decide on LCD monitor or regular monitor. Any opinions out there. The
LCD is 325.00 with 1 year warranty.
I have a 20 inch and just Love it! nm

I have a 19 inch Acer (sm)
I am very happy with it. Crystal clear, much better for your eyes.
I have a magnet, about 1/4-inch thick, looks like a SM
really big, flat doughnut. I have it on a metal filing cabinet on the vertical side - like so I can't accidentally drop a tape on it. I just rub the tape back and forth over that and it's erased.
I'm sure you could buy one somewhere (used to know an MT who used a cow magnet for the same thing) but I got mine from my husband's shop. Have been using it for 12 years.
I recently purchased a 23-inch...
Phillips LCD flat screen TV to use as a computer monitor. The TV price was relatively the same as a computer monitor of the same size. Definitely go as big as you can afford...you won't be sorry!
My dog drools 10 inch drool (sm)
I guess you could say he has no manners, but I would never shock him so he would.
New Orleans not only below sea level but sinking 1 more inch a year.

17 inch is a good size - they have glare screens
I have had both types of monitors - now both 17 inches but one is a flat screen and one is not. They do offer glare screens to put over your monitors to cut down on glare which stress the eyes. I have no problems and been using a computer monitor doing this MT work since 1990, but been transcribing for much longer than that.
Best of luck!
We bought a 2 2/1 inch memory foam topper and cannot live without it now! AWESOME

Are you a monitor here?

I luv my LCD monitor
Not much to assemble. It's really a matter of popping the two cords into the back of the monitor. It'll take you about 15 minutes from start to finish ... that includes opening the box, taking out everything, reading the directions, connecting the monitor, installing the software), and throwing the box out.
monitor
If you use your computer a lot, plan on buying a lot of batteries or having a backup for a wireless with a charger.
As for monitors, you can get them on pricewatch pretty cheap now. I actually bought my son a 21 inch Sony on ebay for 200 including shipping. For my own 19 inch, I bought it at a rent-to-own furniture store. Once they have them a few months, they sell them and I bought it for 40. and it's like new.
Monitor
Yes! Yes! Yes! I recently got a flat-screen and I love, love, love it. I have a Sceptre which I bought at Wal-Mart for about $150.00. Best thing I ever did. It really cut down on my headaches. Get a flat-screen. You will not be sorry. I promise. :)
Well I DO need a big monitor...
these days. After hitting 40, my eyesight definitely isn't what it used to be, LOL!
monitor
i used to have this happen, and with mine, it was not a precursor to going out. But i can't remember what supposedly caused it -- power surge, interference?? but in my case, led to no other problems.
Monitor......
Buy a shield or screen for the monitor that minimizes glare from the lightsource.
Need help with monitor
I recently had a monitor conk out, so I got the one out that came with my personal computer (a couple years old but never used).
Everything was fine for a few weeks but lately, out of the blue, my page will shift to the right for no apparent reason (leaving 1-1/2 inch of black on the left and the right edge of the page not in view) and then it will shift back at some point.
When I press on the monitor menu button, nothing happens at all. I know when I first set it up, the menu and selections worked fine.
Any idea what is happening here?
Do you use more than one monitor?...
My husband and I "built" our new computer on Dell's website last night, and they are offering a second monitor for a very reasonable rate. My question is, does anyone have this set-up using 2 monitors to work? I didn't quite see the use for 2, but maybe to have one just for typing, and the other for my references?
Apparently, it is set up that you just have to move your mouse and it will move over to the other screen....seems easy enough. But, I don't know if it would be worth the extra space it would take up on my desk and work area. So,does anyone have this set-up and consider it a must?
Thanks very much for your help!
What monitor do you have?
This has nothing to do with the monitor...sm
It's about how the page will be printed:
Portrait or Landscape.
Click on 'File'
Click on 'Page Set Up'
Then you have the option: Portrait or Landscape, click how you want it printed.
Portrait prints it vertical
Landscape horizontal (for longer lines)
Cat sits on monitor.

who are we to monitor what they do with their money?
What is the *proper manner*? What you think they should do with money? These are grown men and women with families. They can decide what to do with the money. There but for the grace of God go I.
Software with monitor
You install the software that comes with the monitor. It's very straight forward. Insert disk. Install software. Enjoy monitor.
Need to get a new PC monitor, need opinions
Anyone with flat panels, how do you like them? Any problems with them?

Try moving your monitor up or down, too. sm
When my monitor is not positioned correctly, I get terrible neck aches and headaches. Sometimes just a half inch really makes a difference. Or even move your keyboard up or down. When I worked at the hospital, maintenance had to move my whole desk up onto 2 x 4's to give me that little bit of extra I needed and then I was comfortable. They had a desk made for kids that I had to sit at. It was really cramped.
guy got me a Hyundai monitor.....sm
Believe it or not, Hyundai sells monitors for around $140. It was compatible with the Dell. Hope that helps :)
What size is your monitor?
Just wondering what everyone uses. I use a 17 inch but would like a 19 or 21. I like mine big, but my mom who is also an MT says when the monitor is too big it slows down her production because her eyes have to travel further back and forth to read what she is typing. LOL Everyone is different. I've seen these huge monitors at the computer stores lately, widescreen, like 30 inches, and they look pretty cool. So...what size monitor does everyone use or would like to use? Thanks!
the monitor in question is over 5 yrs old
if you're lucky.....and to have a monitor for 5 years is a GREAT amount of time. Poster is lucky!
Hanging monitor
I heard about monitors that you can hang sideways, which helps you see the full page at once instead of having to scroll down. Apparently the monitor has a setting to change the image to sideways or something. Could improve your efficiency. That's what I'd get if I were in the market for a monitor.
I use the monitor controls. You can
gray-down the tone of the monitor brightness quite a bit, at least on the monitors I've had.
Monitor question
I have an Acer desktop which came with standard monitor. If I go larger screen, will it work well? I was given a Dell monitor and plugged it into my Acer and all it did was flicker and give me big trouble. I have never tried flat screen but hate to spend money on something that won't be compatible. Could I also plug it into my laptop and have it work?
Monitor recommendation
My monitor is starting to go, and I have to replace it. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm considering a flat-screen to better maximize my limited desk space. Anyone use one?
What brand of LCD monitor to buy? sm
I am really troubled by eye strain ... got new computer glasses from eye doc but still not happy ... a number of people have said I should swap my CRT monitor out for a flat screen LCD. I'm game to do it, but have been reading reviews until I'm brain-dead! Thought maybe you folks here might share what brand of LCD you are using, and if you are happy with it for word processing. I hear some are better for text than others, and I don't want to shell out the bucks without looking into it. TIA!
flickering monitor
Are your plugs pushed in all the way--since brand new monitor--I'd think loose connection first. Or could be the wrong resolutions settings were chosen.
Monitor... please check out an ad...sm
on jobs.mtstars.com... Two inappropriate ads placed. Both came up under search under sears all and Workers' Comp.
Thanks for maintaining a great board and your attention on this!
Size of monitor
What size of monitor are you using??? I am seriously considering buying a new one and would appreciate input as to what people have, including brand suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Any suggestion for a monitor that
does not cause eyestrain. It would be much appreciated.
Definitely recommend second monitor
You can buy a VGA adapter at Best Buy (plugs in USB) that you can hook a second monitor up to without having to install a new video card. As for good prices on monitors check ebay. I'm getting ready to buy my third one!!!
Monitor problem....help please....
I woke up this morning, and there is a two inch blacked out column on the left hand side of my monitor/desktop. My whole desktop is moved over two inches and I can't get over there to work on the missing two inches.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried searching on the web, and I found someone who asked this exact question last year, but no one answered him.
Rebooting/restarting does not fix the problem.
Any help would be appreciate.
TIA
THank you! Many people have access at this monitor.
Thank you!!
Question for anyone with an LCD Monitor. See message.
Question for people on LCD monitor. Is there a reason the typing seems not solid black in spots and more lighter and darker in the words.
Monitor heaters are WONDERFUL!!! SM
Fortunately, we have a Monitor heater which is maybe the most efficient heater you can buy..we burn kerosene..we have a 250/gal tank..yesterday we got 100 gal. at 3.36/gal..that will hold us pretty good for quite a while and in the meantime we'll be buying 10 gal. at a time wherever we can find it cheaper which at this point is 30 miles away. We live in the mountains and it gets very cold up here and stays cold til April. I set it on 58 before I go to bed..the heater kicks on at 58 and heats it up to 4 degrees higher. In the daytime I'll keep it on 64 and we'll be wearing more clothes.
Well nothing is working so I am not sure what to do. Monitor could you check your end to see if
there is a problem. I wonder if Norton Internet Security could be a problem. I can get into other web sites and move around in them and open up everything but not this one.
