Learn proper English...
YOU BE HAPPY THERE - Perhaps you be stupid?
Either you know proper English or you don't. It's not something you turn on and off. nm

I have a theory about grammar, proper English going the way of
the dinosaur. I am beginning to think that with all the ESLs who cannot speak English, that everyone else has totally forgotten how to conjugate verbs, have no idea what sentence syntax means, understand the relationships of nouns to verbs, etc. I am wondering how long it will take before no one makes much sense and it really bothers me. I see paragraphs where truly, it is difficult to tell exactly what is being said, what relates to what. I long for the days when I had an ESL who wanted me to correct her, even to the point of completely reworking her sentences to sound better.
If the dictators could speak proper English and enunciate clearly,
if the supervisors didn't bounce MTs off of QA in less than a week and then gripe at everyone about leaving blanks, if the account specs were clearly delineated, if the pay was worth a darn, if the QA feedback was constructive and consistent, then maybe the MTs would care about quality and loyalty.
Sorry, but my account goes by proper English grammar rules
not that made-up garbage from the AAMT.
of course they speak english, with an accent but they speak British-English quite well.
And I can't speak Indian so I guess they have an edge don't they?
Production e-mails
Sounds like we work for the same company! I wonder if the whole company is doing that or just particular team managers? I really don't mind it that much, it kind of keeps me on my toes - but I can understand your frustration.
Question about e-mails...sm
I am trying to send an e-mail to my employer but it keeps coming back to me as a failure notice. It states: 530 Authentication required. Does anybody know what this means? Thanks
Did you save any of the e-mails
If so, then just include that with a nice letter to your past employers about the fact that your working arrangement did not work out.
If that doesn't work, you may want to see if there is a way to sue her for defamation of character. She has to have good grounds to be calling your previous employers. Was this the lady at Seascript? She seemed to have some problems, but I think she was getting help.
Save the e-mails you get and, when you
get one from QA person B that contradicts what QA person A said in the old one, reply to B with a cc to A saying in a very nice and professional way that you had understood it to be such-and-such based on what A had told you before. This will start a dialogue among the QA folks and, hopefully, the correct answer will be found and published.
No check from 07/16, 08/01, and 08/16..no response to e-mails
Thankfully I haven't had this problem before..but now I don't know what to do. This is a lady who I've done work with for the past 3 years...very much in the first couple of years, and it has slacked off to only occasionally now. I never had a problem with her paying in the past and thought we had a good working relationship over the past few years. Now, I haven't been paid for these 3 invoices, and have gotten a couple of e-mail, late in August and early in September, that the check was on the way. Now for the past week plus I haven't gotten any response to my e-mails..and still no check. It's only about $350 or so, but it's the income I've always used to pay my credit card bill...and now without it, I've gotten late charges. I just wonder what my next move should be..or if there is anything I can do short of just e-mailing her again? I'm just really surprised that it's come to this...and I'm hoping she's just on vacation or something
MSN used to send me daily e-mails SM
telling me every single website they had been to. But this would only work if they sign in under their own name and not "borrow" mom or dad's name!
I know this is MDI-MD. Couldn't take the e-mails - she is NUTS! nm

Anyone type their e-mails in all caps?
A co-worker sends the entire e-mail response in all caps regardless of the question. I was always told it meant shouting. If there is some other meaning please inform.
me
I've been getting e-mails explaining it.
Maybe you aren't on company e-mail or you haven't checked it?
Sometimes e-mails show no emotion
You are lucky to have a mentoree. Take it with stride, and once you've gained experience, move on. Words on paper can be misinterpreted very easily.
The e-mails show that they come from MT Stars
Any time someone e-mails you from a MT Stars post this message is attached to the e-mail showing that it comes from MT Stars. Just because you didn't get one doesn't mean a thing. They have to open a post and click on the blue to e-mail - they just haven't done it to you yet.

RE: How do I set outlook express so my e-mails show up chronologically?

Tell them your ISP has installed a new SPAM filter and a it's intercepting a lot of your e-mails

Ask Greg or Frank or whoever is the current CEO. They can check e-mails from Hawaii.
Aloha.
Tired of blanket nonproductive e-mails that chew out everyone but are really only meant for a (SM)
for a few individuals. These are so discouraging for the ones who are doing a good job. Supervisors are not so important that they can't take the time to change the e-mail address so the letter is sent to only those who are messing up - and, conversely, if you can't take the time to figure out who is messing up, then you won't take the time to find out who is doing a good job, so you will never give a raise.
Yes - my letter is perfect example of sending an e-mail to every supervisor and MTSO. See how ineffective it is? Makes you feel very defensive if you are not guilty of doing this. Imagine how it makes me feel when I get these notes after working 10-12 hours to try to help you get caught up, and then you send out a note that basically says how lazy we all are. Thanks a lot. There are a lot better companies out there than you, and even a few who might appreciate high quality and high quantity work.
amen. don't send me condescending atta girl e-mails. i know i do a good job.
i don't need a cheer-leader supervisor to tell me.
Punctuation
I would punctuate:
I told him to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide; and, after that he can apply the Neosporin ointment.
No, it is your punctuation. nm

Proper education? LOL
This is not a regulated or licensed industry. There is no "proper education".
MT schools give a beginner level of knowledge and maybe a little touch on doing dictation but there's no "proper education" to be had here.
I've done this 25 years. I've never had "proper education". I was trained on the job. I was an EMT when I started my first MT job.
And please, stop comparing MTs and nurses like attorneys and paralegals. Those ARE regulated industries. Certification is necessary and a degree necessary.
Get over yourself. ROFL

How would the punctuation be on this sentence? Did I do it right?

Quick punctuation help! sm
Sorry, but it does not seem you received much help here. The truth is every typist has her own style. It seems that quite a few want to place a comma every time the doc pauses to take a breath or shifts a page. If that is what your own doc prefers, then go for it. Most do not, however.
Grammatically, you may use commas or not in this sentence, but none are necessary. It has been my own experience that doctors would rather have less rather than more in the case of commas. Believe it or not.
Quick punctuation help!
Thanks so much for the advice!
Is question about punctuation? (sm)
If so, I'd change it to:
MUST HAVE: Two years' experience.
Transcriptionists that do not know punctuation
I just had a dictation in which the doctor specified (correctly) where the quotation marks were in relation to the period at the end of the sentence and stated that he was tired of having to correct reports where it was incorrectly placed. I was aghast! How could anybody transcribe and not know elementary punctuation?
punctuation problems
HI,
I am taking my medical transcription course through Allied Schools. I am having a problem trying to punctuate the dictations properly. I would like to know if anyone can help me with this problem. What I thought was proper punctuation seems to be different with medical transcription. Are we supposed to transcribe the punctuation as the doctor dictates or correct it to what we believe is correct?
Also, I have an assignment that I just transcribed that is impossible for me to punctuate. If anyone can help me, I would truely appreciate it.
Grammar/Punctuation
I would mark it as a grammar/punctuation error, however they both hold the same weight score-wise, so it really doesn't matter if you call it g/p or spelling. If it were a case of having 2 different point values, I would go with the lesser of the 2 - I always try to give the MTs the break.
punctuation issues
I was very careful about punctuation until I had to research things and found that the MTs at my hospital NEVER use commas. I could barely understand some of the long, strung out sentences. I always researched obscure medical terms to make sure my work was accurate, yet I make $10 less an hour than others there because the pools are set up so some MTs get the profitable work before the rest of us. The point of this is, I don't feel that my excellent work is appreciated, and I don't believe the pool situation is fair, so I just do minimum to get by. I also work IC to supplement my income, and my IC work is much better because I feel appreciated.
Docs and punctuation
Regarding the posts down the list about the docs who dictate run-on sentences or add bunches of periods, etc. I am wondering why they are not instructed to not include punctuation at all. Our company has us disregard what they say anyway (since it is usually way off), and it seems they are making it extra rough on themselves.
I have one who says comma practically every other word. It really threw me off at first, but now I hardly even hear it (so used to ignoring it). But think how much easier it would be for them to not even think about it. What works the best is when they just use their voice inflection to signal the end of one thought/subject and the beginning of another. Being someone without a whole lot of medical background, it gets confusing when they don't.
Why is it no one seems to communicate with the dictators about such things?
You are not wrong, Punctuation goes
inside the quotation marks.
Need help with punctuation and caps
I have MS Word 2003. This program has always capitalized the first letter after a colon (:) and for some reason today it stopped. I cannot figure this out for the life of me. I have been in Tools, etc, and see nothing that addresses this problem. If anyone has had this problem and knows how to correct it, please enlighten me. LOL

Who decides proper? If these two cowboys sm
lived alone with each other and didn't get married and pretend they weren't gay they still wouldn't be proper, right? They couldn't win for losing your book, right? It's views like your that push gay kids to committ suicide rather than live in YOUR world and deny how they were born. And they are BORN that way and here's how I know-who would CHOOSE such a behavior knowing how half of society would shun them??? Who would CHOOSE to be ridiculed and made fun of? Who would CHOOSE to be judged the rest of their lives not on who they are but who they live with???? I know a lot of women married to creeps who I don't judge because of their husbands, judgement by association is cowardly. Why don't you get to know PEOPLE and judge them accordingly based on WHO they are not WHAT they are??
Proper way to submit resignation?
How much information does one have to include in a resignation? Just the date effective? Do you need to give the reasons in the resignation? TIA!
proper diagnosis!!! for my exhusband too...LOL...sm
but it isn't really funny and I'm not really laughing.....it was him or my sanity, as I posted below, and my sanity won out but you have put the proper diagnosis on it because I've been saying for 20 years, he was/is a passive aggressive.....always pointing the finger, placing blame and never looking inside himself as maybe it's him who is/was the problem......(also a triple virgo male *LOL* sun, moon, rising-ascendant).
