last time i checked, MENSA was a party organization! Not much more going on.
Who wants to waste their time reading this stuff here? nm

If you will spend some time reading the company board
you'll see that the industry is more volitile than ever. Work is being offshored to India and other countries and the garbage is left for the US MT. Companies are going to VR. Pay is low, you can expect to make 9 to 10 cpl average as an employee, maybe up to 11 cpl as an independent contractor. A lot of companies cannot provide steady work and insurance is very expensive.
I would not recommend leaving your job to pursue MT full-time. Most companies want the experience to be current, within the last 2 years, so you could potentially have some issues with being 3 years out.
I would suggest trying it part-time to get a feel for how things are before you decide.

Goggle.com and enter various phrases to get articles and companies. I use a free doanload of ExpressScribe, yep, it is free. They have a number of various software things on their site to read and perhaps one will fit. The express Scribe is a piece of sotware to download, it is very simple and I like simple. You can listen and transcribe various voice file formats. You can use a wav pedal one is called a serial pedall and I think it is 9 pin and plugs in the back of PC and also another pedal I think a 15 pin wav pedal and goes in the USB port in front. However, you can also use it without a pedal and it works fine. You use a couple of key to stop, pause, rewind, I forget the key. There are a lot of pedals so don't just jump in. On this site you may benefit from emailing the company after reading and rereading, even if you don't understand. .

Maybe you need to reconsider this relationship.
What you have described has many elements of an abusive relationship. He blames you for everything. He becomes angry at you for no reason. He withdraws from you. He accuses you of lying. You're walking around on eggshells trying to cater to his "moods". He never takes any responsibility for problems. This cannot be a rewarding relationship for you. You are obviously a very loyal and caring person. You deserve to be treated better. You deserve a relationship with someone who will return your affection and will treat you with respect. You might at least want to consider getting out of this relationship for awhile, until your current boyfriend takes some initiative himself to get help. I don't think anything you say or do will have an effect; he will need to determine for himself that he needs to change. Otherwise, he'll just keep blaming you. Please take care of yourself.
this is my kind of relationship too
Just being comfortable and enjoying each other. Its so hard to find that, people want you to be a certain way and it creates so much stress. Just allow each other to "be", no criticizing allowed! I see married couples just picking at one another, its sad. I'm definitely a hard person to match up because of how laid back I am. You mentioned being lazy, well I probably have you beat, i'm like a lion, i'm thrilled to take a nap. I'm really very easy to please, if my guy found a blade of grass outside my door and attempted to tie it in the shape of a rose to hand to me, I would break out in tears of happiness. Its just so easy, wish people would understand that. Just cuddle and do the little things and be joyful. Happy Valentines day.
Yes, if you have a good relationship, obviously - sm
if you have been estranged for years, or they abused you, etc. then NO. I am not looking forward to possibly taking in one of my in-laws in the future (my dad has a younger wife, so he has her to take care of him). I get along with them but I don't want to live with them though, they each drive me nuts in different ways. My goal would be to get them a small house or apt. in the area and do it that way though. Condo's are coming near us soon, hard to believe in the rural area we are in but the sprawl is coming, so that would be my wish (5 miles away). However lots of down sides to doing this, and perceived as being selfish I am sure, it will totally disrupt your life, you may become a taxi driver if they cannot or are unwilling to drive (my MIL won't drive more than 5 miles to get somewhere)(they are strict catholics, nearest catholic church is 45+ minutes away), become nurse/cook, etc. So if we ever do do it, we will have to think long and hard, and not erroneously open up our mouths before we think of what it really means. Responsibility is the word, though had it been my mom I wouldn't have felt that way. Obviously you don't want to do it if you are going to be resentful, that is the problem I will probably have to overcome at some point.
Definite relationship here...
Note that as transcription has moved further and further from the hospital (to outside hospital employee, then to US transcription vendor, then to offshore, and finally to the ultimate form of distance - machine-generated transcription) the hourly compensation and benefits have deteriorated steadily.
As the MT is pushed further and further from the source, she becomes more and more of an faceless and, consequently, powerless entity. Welcome to Never-Never Land!
yes, have a very good relationship
with my supervisor. Like I said, neither the MTSO or our MAJOR client have converted to it yet, so maybe we won't.
Absolutely. Our relationship is first priority. sm
Otherwise our marriage would have failed years ago as so many do. Sure we both have different interests and different ways of thinking, but we respect each others space in that regard and we teach this to our children as well.
We were both married before to the types that needed to make themselves and their controlling families top priority and neither of us could ever figure out why they did that.
We were lucky though as our parents never interfered and they always made their relationship their number one priority. What happened in their private lives was none of our business. My parents would have been married for 60 years in May, but both are gone now. His parents have been married for 51 years.
Our older two are grown and gone and thankfully live locally (by their own choice). They call to say hello, but not every day. We watch the grandkids when we can. We do say no when we can't. We'd never dream of interfering in their private lives unless there was an obvious issue that put any of them in danger.
We still have 2 younger teens at home and both are doing fine . . . .for teens that is!
I've no turkey left already with the teenager appetite!
Love/hate relationship
There are so many things I love about this job, working on my own, being at home, no office politics, better money than I can make anywhere locally, (I live in a rural community) can work in my jammies, flexibility, intellectually challenging...but then again so many things I dislike too.. no appreciation, being squeezed out by technology, not being paid what you're worth, forcing yourself to be self-disciplined, sitting for hours, hands aching, no respect from doctors or the public (Hey, I can type so can I get a job doing what you do??? UGH!), ESLs and poor dictators... it's hard to say which side of me wins out on most days.. It's a job, like any other job, good days/bad days... suits my lifestyle for now so I'll keep at it.. but always keep my eyes open for the future.
I agree with having a good relationship.
Patti, you have probably earned respect because of your excellent turnaround, attention to detail, and responding in a timely fashion when things can get "hairy" so to speak and the office is in need of a report. I also have that kind of relationship with the offices I transcribe for and it is very nice. When I lost my mother, one of my docs, called me personally and told me that he was not at all worried about late dictation because "family comes first". I know these docs are hard to come by, but I have also responded to his STAT requests in a timely manner. I have managed to please his staff and do not come off (just because I'm an IC) that I am not a part of their team and feel the same stresses that come along with being part of the staff. I have been offered lunch if I'm there and a rep has brought in some sandwiches. I have sat and eaten that lunch, too (not everytime) but I want to be part of the team. I think this very much increases your productivity and then like you said when it comes time that you may not have gotten that report back, it is not taken as such a bad thing. We are all human. I feel the OP should have a contract with this office and specify her charges as such. I'm sure glad someone understands though that there are some great offices out there that really do care about their staff, including their IC transcriptionist.
abusive relationship ruining mt career
I had an extramarital affair. I deeply regret it and am trying to get my life straightened out. I ended the affair and I believe this man wants to see me lose everything out of spite and revenge. I had to quit my last MT job because my computer was hacked and had alerted the company there was a security problem and then a bunch of personal correspondence with this man got uploaded to the company server via "technical assistance" on the phone. I have had harassing phone calls as well and calls that were programmed in my autodial end up at the wrong number or playing Mexican music, etc. I went to the sheriff's department and they did believe my situation, but said there is little I can do about it without filing a report. I do not want to appear spiteful or vengeful, but may have to file a report against this man, but he lives in another state. I just want to put my life back together. I fear with my computer tapped and my phone calls screened I will be unable to secure another job or get the harassment to stop. I have three firewalls on my computer am rural and had to work via satellite. I live in a small town with little opportunity. I am going to lose everything if I cannot work as an MT.
Any MTs victims of domestic abuse and had to deal with anything similar?
If someone is sabotaging my career what am I to do?
I agree here. He may have developed a new relationship on the side. Sorry. nm

Isn't it an "at will" relationship, meaning that no cause is needed at all?

This sounds like my kind of relationship! No great expectations and you can relax
I always have a fear of disappointing people. It has caused me to isolate myself...

try the web for homemade costume ideas. A cute one I've always wanted to do was to hang cereal boxes all over the body with fake rubber knives sticking out of each onewith fake blood and go as a CEREAL KILLER.
new yrs eve party
we met at 2000 new yrs eve party. i went out with my brother & his friends that night b/c my friend blew me off and it was there that i met my husband. :-)
Also, who knows what the other party
in their recorded statement. I used to transcribe these things too and the one thing I noticed is that out of one accident, each party always blames the other guy and sometimes the statements vary wildly as to what happened. You might want to get your version on the record. Just be sure to speak clearly and don't talk over each other.
Yes were going to a party party
wait, I think that's backwards, LOL
Spa party help, please
I'm hosting a spa party at my house on Friday at 6:30 p.m. I'm going to serve:
Vegetable pizza
Chips/Mexican dip (cheese, cooked ground beef, salsa in the crock pot)
Fresh fruit (strawberries, grapes, blueberries)
Lemon squares
Tea/soda/coffee
Would it be okay to use pale yellow paper plates, napkins, utensils, hot/cold cups with a white tablecloth and a vase of fresh flowers? Can I move the chairs away from the kitchen table and serve the food there or should I put it on a table in the den where we'll be having the party? Should I offer drinks as people arrive and wait until everyone is there before we eat or should everyone just get their food/drink as they arrive?
I've never had or been to this type of party, so I'm really nervous. Does my menu sound like enough, too much, yucky choices??? I thought it would be fun having a spa party, but it's made me a first-class nervous wreck planning it!
I'm open to all ideas and recommendations. Thanks.
Party...party...party......
Party...party...party....
Or have a party going on right behind them
Many of the ESL's I get must either choose dictation stations right next to congested areas or don't have a clue how their dictation sounds because they never play it back. It's hard enough to understand them without loud personal conversations and bursts of laughter right near by, or the somebody loudly paging someone right through their dictation, or sitting right next to a phone that rings and rings. This is the norm on most of the dictations I've been getting, and I'm really tired of it! When I worked in-house people KNEW to be quiet when someone was dictating, and the doctors edited their dictations enough to hear what was going on the background. This is one of the down sides of working off site - you can't grab anybody and say - "come listen to this, and then don't blame me if its full of blanks"!
We are not an outside party
We are directly under the physician. We are not BCBS or the government.
Having an engagement party for our son and his g/f!
YAY!
Wow, a party on a Monday? Can I come?? (sm)
I'll bring food too; I'm a good coo, I swear I am!.
I made this for a party once..sm
You may have already seen these, if not they are rather cute.
Purchase some plastic (deli type) disposable gloves. These are made to touch food, etc. Put a candy corn in fingertips (for fingernails) stuff rest with popcorn. Tie top with colored black/orange ribbon, and put plastic spider rings (found everywhere at halloween) on top of glove after they are stuffed. These are really kinda cute.
A party for our patients...
Every year, the staff in our clinic takes it on ourselves to throw a party for our patients. We all cook finger food, make snack trays, cookies, baked good, cheezes, bread, meat trays, the works. We have breakfast foods and lunch foods. We decorate tables in our lobby to spread this out on. We usually do this one day a week for the four weeks before Christmas so many patients will get to enjoy it. We have coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice, cokes and punch. We have fruits and dips....something for everyone, even diabetics. The patients are touched that we go to the trouble and we are touched by how much they love it! These patients have gone through enough suffering with their diseases and some are elderly and don't have family members. Some tell us this is their only Christmas! We have been doing this several years now and the patients are beginning to tell us to be sure we appoint them to return on the days we are having our "Christmas spread." I just thought I'd share the Christmas party that means the most to me... and this is definitely it! Just the look on their faces as they are enjoying it is Christmas to me.
Party dilema...
Okay, 5 years ago, our family threw a huge party - a pig roast actually - with over 100 people during the course of the night. My father-in-law said he wanted to do it again this year, but has since backed out because of his health not being the best and my husband has no interest in planning. I would love to charge in and do it myself except for one thing - I have no idea how to roast a pig. I was thinking of just having burgers and dogs as well as whatever sides people want to bring, soda, beer, etc and just turn up the music and have a blast. My husband says you can't have a pig roast one year and turn around and just have hamburgers another time. I think he's full of it! Any opinions? And be kind...he IS a great guy. Just a party p**per when it comes to this.
Happy 4th!
Just was at a grad party and met one of my former MDs

Do a kabob party!!! (sm)
We did a kabob party once. We supplied big bowls of all the things you would put on them including meat (chicken, steak, and pork) and then bowls of other stuff like cherry tomatoes, pieces of pineapple, mushrooms, green pepper chunks, onion chunks, etc. We marinated the meat and had it laying in the bowls already marinated. Everbody got their own kabob skewer and built their own and then carried it out to the grill where my husband grilled it for them. You could put on it whatever you liked. When we were done, we roased marshmallows too! That was the most successful party we ever did. We had everyone else bring a dish to go along with the kabobs and we supplied the kabobs. Hope that helps!
Late to the party, but B is right.
I have Office 2003, Teachers & Students Edition, and it does indeed allow installation on 3 computers in a household.
When you activate trial versions, you have no backup in case of computer/hard drive failure.
Also, you MAY be able to get physical media for pre-installed computer software from the manufacturer, but at the very least you'll pay shipping and handling, and probably a nominal fee for the CDs. Most now place the restore software on the computer's hard drive. It's up to the owner to back that up in case of emergency.
Homemade Chex party mix!
Made with real butter, lots of peanuts, Cheese-its or Goldfish. Rice and/or corn chex or Crispix; none of those nasty wheat chex. Used to mix up a batch and sit and type and and eat and then graze on it throughout the day
Autotext vs. third-party software
I have tested InstantText, SmartType and several other abbreviation Expanders out there. InstantText and SmartType are more expensive and I found I can have the added features they provide with PCShorthand which is about $100. The added benefits include things like adding other functions such as backspace to your abbreviations so the abbrevation "yo" will do backspace hyphen and then type "year-old" things like that. Also with PC shorthand you can have a suggestion window displayed and resize and position that anywhere on your screen so you have a suggestion window like InstantText and SmartType. Then if you build your list properly, you can quickly see which abbreviation to use if you need to and you don't have to remember exactly what abbreviation you used, which are the primary selling points of InstantText and SmartType, both of which are great programs. You can also transfer your autotext entries to any of the third-party programs. They do have a 30-day free trial demo (www.pcshorthand.com) and no, I do not work for OfficeSoft, just like their software and think it is reasonably priced.
Party Ideas for Preteens
Hi! my daughter is turning 10 next month. She wants to have an "all girls party" : ) and wants to have some games. I just don't know what games are still suitable for their age. Any ideas? Thanks.
How about a "Bah, Humbug" party? (s/m)
That was one of the best things I ever attended, one Christmas Eve when I was having a totally crummy X-mas season. A bunch of other gals I knew who were single (some by choice, some by circumstance, some long-term, some recently), but all of whom were stressed-out and bummed about the holidays, all got together and had what is still the best party I ever attended. Lasted well into the wee hours of Christmas morning, and then we all realized how lucky we were that we could come crawling home in rather intoxicated condition at 4:00 AM and not have someone (Husband, BF, significant other, father, etc.) getting on our case about it. Once the hangover was gone, I think we all appreciated our own situations and no longer felt depressed.
What does third party transcription provider mean?
Could be farwell party on Friday. If not, I would think
After 20 years, a big party should be in the plans. If not, they are lacking in manners and it is time for you to go to a new place in your life.
2nd birthday party for the dynamic duo!
Just way too much fun! Especially when they both pushed their little cakes away and said PICKLES!
Next year they're getting birthday pickles.
Shower for first...diaper party for second.
It was lots of fun and I received so many diapers and wipes, which I was so thankful for. It was much smaller and more personal. Not to mention, it was nice to have a party, even small, to welcome the second baby.
A party is about getting together, not what food is served! :-)
I say to make whatever food you feel comfortable with and encourage others to bring covered dishes to add variety. I have found those types of get togethers the most fun. Easy food, music, pool, games for the kids, whatever. Good luck! :-)
If it were my kid, I'd be very tempted to call off the party....
But I hope you figured something out. Let us know how you made out.
Pampered Chef--went to a party over the-sm
