Sound card - doesn't that come with a computer?  Not always, but I'll bet you have one.

15-pin game port- a little connection thing on your computer that has 15 holes in it.  It is about 1 1/2-2 inches long.  Look on the back of your computer.  This is where you would plug in your 15-pin foot pedal that you would have to buy.

Windows XP Pro Service pack 1 - Click the Start button, then click Run.  In the little box type winver and hit enter.  It will display a box containing what version of XP you have.  At the top in big letters it will say Windows XP and below that it will say Professional Edition or Home Edition.  In the gray area, it will say Version blah, blah, blah and then will say Service Pack ____. 

email with attachments - Right click on the attachments and save them to your computer.  Remember the location you saved them to. 

Express Scribe is a free player that you can download and plays most types of files.  Just Google for Express Scribe. 

some kind of test where I was supposed to fill in the blanks - It's hard to say from my end but I would guess they were in MS Word format.  It depends on the file extension.  Does the test file end with .doc?  If so, then it is a Word document.  You can open it and edit it with Word Pad, but Word Pad is not really something you would want to transcribe with.
