Bolding is a bit different. You have to
type {@KEY Ctrl+B} before and after the text you want highlighted. There's also {@KEY BkSp} to backspace on yo for -year-old. I didn't know about those functions until I read through the help file and tutorial to figure it out.
Bolding
for bolding with shorthand, I do
Ctrl + K and then Ctrl + B, enter your heading, then another Ctrl + K and again Ctrl + B.

Hope that helps. Love Shorthand.

If anyone has any tips for Shorthand, please share.
bolding
can you tell me how to bold in shorthand?
Bolding in ST
I was just looking this up last night. From what I can figure is that no, SpeedType cannot save bolded text, but it allows you to use the Windows shortcut keys of Ctrl + B to bold the text you have saved.

I use "ch" for "chest". To bold it, type "chest + Ctrl + B".
Bolding and unbolding
Just a little rant of sorts.  I transcribe headings as bolded text then unbold by using ctrl B.  But often times I mistype the first letter of the unbolded text, I back up, correct the mistake,  and it goes back to Bold!  I can see that I spend a lot of time doing this.  I'm not sure if there is any easier way to deal with this but it's really irritating and cuts into my productivity!
Bolding in Shorthand

"Maybe one more time, Everytime I try the control K, I get a pop-up message saying next key typed will be assigned to the shortcut and an x cancel."

That's actually your prompt to have you hit the B.  Just hold down the Ctrl key, hit the K and the B and select okay for the little window that pops up, type the word or phrase you want bolded, and then hold down the Ctrl key again and hit the K and B once more to toggle the bold off and select okay from that little pop-up window again after your word or phrase.  Give it a try.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see that it does work but it does seem a bit tedious to have to do this way, doesn't it?

Bolding in Shorthand

You're very welcome.  I'm glad I could help!  I'm glad it worked for you, and you've got it figured out!

I don't understand, how does bolding let them know that? (sm)
If I saw a bolded drug in a transcript, I would tend to think the dictator had instructed bolding. Where I work we're not supposed to use bold type; if I had to spell it wrongly because I couldn't verify it, I leave a note for the editors and/or facility so that they know the dictator spelled it out that way.
Still having problems with bolding in Shorthand
Thanks for replys, but still having problems.

How about this, how would you bold a heading with ShortHand expander, such as Physical Exam:

TIA very much. This is making me crazy cuz I know it is probably very simple.
Bolding with Shorthand keep getting pop-up message
Maybe one more time, Everytime I try the control K, I get a pop-up message saying next key typed will be assigned to the shortcut and an x cancel. Very annoying to not be able to do the bold with the Shorthand.

Tried the other suggestion and that is what is in the instructions, but not working for me.

Any other suggestions?

TIA again.

Style question about bolding colons. sm
Do you bold colons along with the subtitle, i.e.,
PHYSICAL THERAPY: (all of it bolded or just the subtitle)?
You need to read the help file on bolding/unbolding NM

Instant Text bolding question
Hi. If you copy something from your document that is already bolded and paste it into Instant Text, you can click on "Format" and it will keep the same format that it was entered in (be it bold, underline, etc.) That's usually the way I do it. In my opinion, it's the easiest way.
