Dear Having Problems,
The teen years are indeed different and more difficult with daughters. It sounds to me like your daughter has had everything for so long that she's lieing out of boredom. She's also getting "negative attention" from you by dating boys that she knows you won't approve of.
Your daughter is old enough to hold a part-time job after school. Let her pay for her own school activities and functions. If she wants to further her talent badly enough, she'll be willing to work for it.
When buying that "first car" for a teenager, the teen should be holding a part-time job and have a savings account. One way is to say that you'll match what they save. If all they save is $2,000, then they'll have a $4,000. second hand car. Let them know too that the gas, maintenance and insurance is their responsibility not yours.
The entire family shouldn't have to give up the things they usually do for Christmas for one person. Each person (depending on their age of course) needs to make a contribution.
Maybe this sounds old-fashioned, but it worked while I was growing up and it worked for my kids well too.
