Normally I'm a big believer in, "It's the thought that
Had I received it from a child, I'd be VERY grateful and appreciative that they though that much of me. After all, $5 is a fortune to a child.
But I have to agree that a $5 gift card to Walmart is pretty darned CHEAP, coming from a company run by adults who know full well what $5 will buy these days (not much), what you make working for them (not much), and how hard you have to work for it.
You and all the other MTs who work for that company are the ones who keep their company afloat, put dinner on the table (in their mansion that a butler probably serves them), and buys all their fancy toys.
They keep talking about their "bottom line", but seem to forget that it's alot more cost-effective to pay a good employee well, and retain them, than continually be having to recruit, train, and then lose, new employees.
I would still find a use for a $5 Walmart card - after all, I can always use a box of cereal, which is about what it will buy. But REALLY. That MT Week token gift is about as sincere as the year when my former employer gave us all ugly, cheap coffee cups (mine was cracked) filled with stale hard candy. After throwing out the candy (and getting yelled at that day by my boss), the temptation to take the coffee cup into the ladie's room, PEE in it, and then leave it on her desk before going home that evening, was so strong, it took me most of the day to talk myself out of doing it.
Still, it would've expressed my emotions perfectly.
