In Reply to: Itchy bumps on palms of hands? - ItchyMT

I had experienced this almost 20 years ago and I have only recently found out by accident what it may have been, as it has progressed now to different symptoms. My palms broke out in blisters that itched and nothing helped the itching. This recurred many times and I began to notice a pattern, first with the use of commercial hand cleaners in public places, as I then worked in a factory. Then I noticed that the use of potting plants with treated potting soil brought on this condition. so I began to feel it was a sensitivity to certain chemicals. I avoided those things like the plague, wearing gloves, etc. The symptoms then progressed to other areas of the body and I felt I had some other type of disease, battling with it off and on over the many years. Recently I started noticing a pitting of my fingernails, but only certain nails, i.e. the middle finger and the thumb. Well, researching that on the internet brought me to a site on Lichen Planus, which showed pictures of the pitting nails which looked exactly like mine, and described the other various symptoms with the palm blisters, etc. I now feel I have had this condition for over 20 years without knowing exactly what it was. They do not know what causes it, but sensitivity to various chemicals and such in our every day household items is felt to be a contributing factor. I have had to switch to homemade hand soaps, special shampoos, dye free and scent free laundry soaps, and NO fabric softeners of ANY kind, be it softener sheets or liquid softeners, as they will RAPIDLY bring on the symptoms within two weeks of use. As far as I have found, there is no "cure" for this, although there are many advertisements promoting "remedies," none of which I have tried, as I am asymptomatic at this time. The itching is unbearable, and I feel for you, as I have been there. Research this condition and see it if fits with your symptoms. you may email me if you wish for further discussion. Good luck!!!
