In Reply to: Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day. - I would . ..
Honestly, I would call the police department first just to see if they were called. If not, I would demand that they go to the school to find out what is going on and why the parents were not notified! In my daughters school (which is elementary) there was a hit list going around and us parents did not find out till 4 days later. At least one thing to ease our mind a bit was that they did call the police ASAP....believe me i was still outragged that they waited to so long to contact the parents.

School and weapons
Okay-
Finally last night it was warm enough for the neighborhood kids to play outside. Yea quiet time. About an hour after being outside my son and his friend call me to the door. They explain that another child told them he was going to stab them with a knife. I thought you know that is not cool and brought my child indoors.
Tonight after school my son comes in visibly upset and shaking. I ask him what was wrong and he relates this:::: You know the kid from last night mom? I said yea why? It seems this child had brought the knife to school in his bookbag and showed several others children and told them he was going after another child and my son and he would get them. My heart sank but not as bad as this next part. Seems just last week he was caught with a note of the people and teachers he wanted to harm. Seems like someone should have been suspended for that, but nothing was done. No one was notified. NOT PARENTS, or anyone. Then this week this happens. While we live in a small town, I am not stupid to the fact that this can happen anywhere. I think as a parent of a child I should have been told or someone should have sent a note home to all parents with a warning.
Our school is suppose to have a 0 tolerence policy which applies to threats and/or the use of a weapon. So the school did not send him home for 3 days as required by the school district for the note. I do not think it is fair for the school to play around with my child and other childrens' lives like that. Do you think I have a right to be upset? I think that better safe than sorry with children's lives would be a safe bet. The school did nothing. Any ideas on how this should be handled. I would greatly appreciate it.
