Grill
We make a prime rib every year for christmas and we always cook ours on the grill? I don't know if you have one or use one, but that's how we cook ours.
Steaks on indoor grill
like a George Foreman are not the best. Maybe because the pressure from the closed grill makes all the juices run out, I'm not sure. I was determined to learn how to make a great steak indoors and I tried everything including the indoor grill. Did some research and I found most sources suggested cooking on the stove in a thick bottomed nonstick pan (I use Calphalon)with no oil, no butter, just start with a very hot pan. Wow, were they right. It somehow keeps all the juices in and they sort of blacken almost on the outside and are the best! And you don't even really need much seasoning aside from maybe salt and pepper. My husband can't believe how great they are and swears that must be how the restaurants cook them. Just wanted to share that with you.
I think the whole idea of the George Foreman grill
therefore the juices are supposed to come out to make it less fatty. Searing in the pan keeps the juice in but also the fat. I liked the taste from the George Foreman grill, but I didn't like the clean-up :(
I would prefer just to bake in the oven actually. Also in regards to marinading meat. 30 minutes is plenty of time. If you keep it in the marinade longer it tends to make the meat rubbery. Just a thought...
I occasionally put a pork loin on the grill. nm

I lightly grill my fruit kabobs...
Simple combinations like strawberry-kiwi, strawberry-banana or strawberry-pineapple are outstanding grilled desserts. Also, mango is really good with any of these combos. Grill the kabobs over medium hot coals for 6 to 8 minutes, turning a few times. They're great as is, right off the grill, with nothing else added. But I find them best with added sweetness, like a very light sprinkling of a sugar-cinnamon mixture or brush on some white grape juice or a very light sugar or honey syrup. Hope this helps..
I live in condo and go to park to grill out. SM
I use an automatic lighter, but the thing stinks. It's just a cheapie thing, maybe they all are. Are there any better lighters out there? I'm not taking Sharper Image, but just something better you might use to light candles, start a fire or what not?
I'm sure I sound stupid. I'm not exactly Miss Handyperson. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it. Or should I just go to Home Depot and try to find someone (which is the problem with that place) to help.
This has to be the dumbest question asked all day on this board, I know.
Oooooh, I forgot about Spitfire Grill. It WAS great.

Cooked on the grill, loaded with everything but the kitchen sink. LOL. nm

Did anyone ever make small flounder fillets on the grill. I know they need to be done quickly
because they are so small and thin. How long should they stay on there. I tried them one time in a pan and they turned to mush.
Right?! I once caught a fish so big...(sm)
that I wanted to run back to the house to get the camera or at the very least an eye witness, but was all by myself. This fish I caught, it was a carp, which is a basically a goldfish on steroids. This thing was as big as a 5-gallon water bottle--no word of a lie. It actually broke my fishing rod.
So there I was, down below the highway with my huge catch, and I had no way to contain the thing and didn't want to kill it by taking it for a walk with me. So, I did what any insane person would do. I unhooked my bra, took off the bra, strung the straps through the mouth, out the gills, and attached this "tethered" but quite safe carp to a sapling that dipped into the river.
Mind you, this all took place in the CITY (I so totally don't belong in city) and I had to scramble up an embankment and cross a 2-lane highway, while holding down my flapping boobies, to get back to the condo to get my eyewitness.
My husband was home and he got to witness the whole spectacle. No camera though...all I have are my memories, which I am told are degrading, as my fish gets bigger and bigger every time I tell the story.
Long live us rednecks!
do you know where the fish is coming
from? Kind of scary after watching some consumer reports. The state of Alabama is one of the few to have a fish inspector and he will not order fish in a restaurant in his own state! You don't even want to see where they catch fish in China or what they are fishing in. That is being sent over here. Good luck.
I can't make fish. I don't care for it that much and sm
every time I make it, it tastes fishy, which I hate. no matter what I do, it just turns out badly.
OMG. I have never heard a fish story like that
I still have my christmas lights up on my front porch.
Can't stand a limp fish
handshake . . . my 8th grade English teacher insisted that she would not pass anyone who would not learn how to correctly shake hands, and consequently I have had more than my fair share of comments regarding the strength of my shake :)
When other females offer the limp fish, I'm pretty much disgusted by it.
My vet is recommending EPA (fish oil) supplements
Has anyone tried these for their pets? Have you seen any improvement?
The fentanyl helped some. About an hour after we placed the patch, his spirits improved quite a bit and he was able to get around okay, once he got up (which was difficult). Of course we restricted his movements but as long as he was walking, not running or jumping, we let him move around.
This morning he is not able to move around a whole lot. Just a few feet from one room to another.
So is there any real chance that the EPA supplement will work? The vet seems to think so. Anyone with direct experience?
Italian Christmas Eve with fish.
There aren't a lot of us, so we won't do the full-on 7 fishes, but we'll probably have some mussels, some shrimp, pasta, maybe some baked white fish.
For Christmas, probably ham, because I can serve that hot or cold and we can relax and not stress.
What is the best temp to cook fish at in the oven. nn

Ol' Charlie the Tuna was in the fish section.
I used to have a Charlie the Tuna watch when I was a kid, and so when I saw him there I snatched him up!
I still think you're ahead of me, I STILL can't figure out how to get the smileys in my posts!!
Oh, I see now you got it to work! Now you ARE ahead of me!
Reminds me of a lady allergic to a certain fish, well
she went to eat dinner one night and they had ran out of the fish advertised in the front line and substituted the one she was allergic to. She got, ate, almost killed her. My question is if a person thinks might be or might not be allergic to a thing, why take a chance on it? Same with question of dog allergy to aspirin. If possibility, sure wouldn't give to arf-arf.
You silly bunny, oh course you can't make fish
its already made. Ha, ha!! I just had to do that after all these threads that have gone on and on and on. We will next be handing out boxing gloves.
Bunch of cold fish on this posting.....nm

That is a good question - white fish?
Have some in the fridge, don't know what to do with it. The old standard (baked) doesn't seem to be working up my appetite. Any advice?
Call your local fish and game wardens, they

Great frozen fish - halibut, blue hake, fillets; sm
I also use the packages of veggies like asparagus spears - next best thing to fresh. You don't have to use the premixed things, just buy single items that you'd like to keep on hand. Good selection of low-fat frozen yogurt and ice cream items. And I ditto the poster below about the bagel dogs - great snack food on the run!
Hey, nice to meet goombas here! Love the fish tradition Christmas Eve!
