We love Dance Dance Revolution
even my DH who doen't like to dance. It is a lot of fun and we get some exercise in as well. Would love to try Guitar Hero!
When I (a non-smoker) would volunteer
in one of my children's classrooms I could always tell which children lived in homes where there were smokers. Not only from their clothes, but from their backpacks as well. My parents smoked when I was a child but quit many years ago. Even now I am embarassed by the fact of what I must have smelled like when I went to school. Sorry you had to endure the party, but now you will be able to stand your ground better and make wiser choices for yourself even it someone might be offended.
Do any of you do volunteer work?
I sometimes volunteer at a local elementary school and help with phonics and reading.
It is really lots of fun to help little ones to learn. I have a friend who is a teacher and he says it surprises him that this year very few parents are helping out in the classroom. I just think its lots of fun.
I have also helped with a community clean up. That was fun to get to know others who live in your city/town.
how did you find out? did he volunteer this info?

I teach English as a volunteer.
While there are immigrants here who do not choose to actively pursue learning the language via formal means, there are many who do. We have a waiting list of up to 12-14 months due to class space restrictions and a lack of volunteers. English is not an easy language to learn, and it takes time.
So You Think You Can Dance
My absolutely favorite TV show of all time is back on. So you think you can dance. I love that show. DH loves it too. I miss it all year til it comes on every May. Anyone else watch it?
Looking for good volunteer project for 12 y/o daughter
Does anyone have any ideas for a volunteer project for a 12 y/o girl? or maybe even a group of girls. Most places in our community require you to be 14 for "official" volunteering, but maybe we could just do something on our own. It doesn't have to be Thanksgiving/Christmas related, but that would be okay too.
Thanks for the advice.
I wish I had more time to volunteer more: Call your local sm
Uited Way or Humane Society if you like animals.
Why is a parent volunteer in charge of the ESL child?!? sm
I'm astounded that this task is being left to someone who is not even a teacher, let alone not a specialist. Is this a financially depressed area/school that has lack of funding for such programs? Or a school that normally doesn't have ESL kids and they just don't know what to do with him?
Bless you for trying, I don't have any answers, just a dumbfounded look on my face.
I'm a volunteer nurse at the free clinic
I do medical transcription for money and nursing for free. I've been a nurse since 2001, and I sometimes miss people! Unfortunately, since I've upped my hours at work, I haven't been able to volunteer for the last couple of months.
Doing the free clinic is not like actual nursing work in that there's no backstabbing and pettiness, just appreciation. It's scary, though, knowing what medical problems people have been having for days and have to wait for the free clinic day because they couldn't afford the doctor's office (or the hospital). However, the doctors who do volunteer have the free clinic patients come to their real clinic for free if they have an issue that can't be addressed at the church where the free clinic is located, like drainage of a cyst or something.
Anyway, I wish I had more time for it. *sigh*
Laughing, HARD! Looks like a science experiment...I VOLUNTEER!

Daughter's 7th grade dance
My 13-year-old daughter is having her 7th grade dance in a few weeks, and yes, they definitely go overboard. A friend's daughter went last year and she said the girls looked like they were going to a wedding. The sad thing was she was dressed very casually (they were told it was a Hawaiian theme if they didn't want to get all dressed up. When she got there she saw all the girls dressed to the nines and she started crying and didn't want to go in for fear of what the others would say. I thought that was just awful. There is a no limo rule, but there were some that broke that rule and the school did nothing about it. My daughter is getting a new dress, but she knows it's going to be a simple dress, one that she can wear more than just this one time. We're definitely not made of money and she knows it. She may not always like it, but she knows it.
Father-Daughter and First Dance
Father-Daughter dance - Unforgettable, Nat Cole
First dance - At last, Etta James
Next dance - I've Got Friends in Low Places, Garth Brooks
Lots of Nat Cole songs are good and really meaningful. I cried when my daughter and husband danced that dance to that song. It was like letting her know she was cherished and not to be forgotten, just moving on to another time in her life.
They were on the View today, did exactly same dance sm
with the slap included. She wasn't outraged, she was acting/dancing.
Singles' Dance - No message
: )
LOL, the chicken dance? That was banned from my wedding.
No way, no how. Nor the *hokey pokey* or *hands up*. LOL! I opted for *electric slide*, *shout*, *let's twist again*, *we are family*, *celebration*, *gloria*, *i will survive*, *shake your booty*, *YMCA*, *play that funky music*. We had such a blast!
Marie's dead doll dance . . .
I kept on waiting for her to "start up", you know, come alive and start really dancing. Especially when he wound her up with the key, I thought the routine would really start. It was the oddest thing.
father-daughter dance - old Italian song...
Aw, we loved it (except for the scary part! LOL). Great dance music! nm
