spider veins - take horsechestnut pills

proven to help vein integrity (I take it to keep the blood-brain barrier strong). Do not make a tea of it yourself - it is treated with something when they make supplements to take the toxicity out of it.
Another easy, cheap thing you can do is take large doses of vitamin C. At least 2000 mg/day. This also helps with vein integrity and also skin elasticity/suppleness as well.

After two kids and long hours of standing on my feet in college working retail jobs, my have extensive spider veins on my feet and ankles, with some on my thighs and calves.  Besides being unsightly, can these lead to poor circulation?  Would treatment help or am I just doomed to have vascular disease

What can be done about spider veins these days? Sm
For the record, I have quit crossing my legs, but it is too late.

What works? I know there are creams out there and I can get Avon from a friend who sells it. She says there is an Anew cream that they sell. Is this what to do? Or do I see a plastic surgeon?

Any suggestions welcome.
The intake of vitamin K helps against spider veins. ..... sm
But be careful, do not take too much, only from food sources, yoghurt is a very good source of vitamin K.
There are creams which contain vitamin C.

If you want to take supplemental vitamin K in tablet form, first check with your doctor regarding the dosage.

I had some spider veins in my face, but those disappeared when I started to put vaseline in my face.
Are you going to laser your veins? Places here in NY say to have it done on your lunch hour!

That tator tot-green been casserole runs in our veins here in MN. nm

Calming pills.
I got some calming pills from PetsMart which helps with her nervousness. I just have to remember to give them to her about 30 minutes before we go anywhere.

As for fluids, I gave her a bath and squirted water in her mouth and used a squirt bottle so she got at least some fluids in. She's going in tomorrow morning at 9 for some IV fluids. No diarrhea or puking today and she kept her pills down. *fingers crossed*
No smoking pills?
Has anyone taken the drug Chantix for smoking? My son has been taking this and he and his wife haven't slept in a week. She says he is not acting like himself...I don't smoke so I don't have a clue what its like.

Especially since with all these diet pills
they say that it works in conjunction with diet and exercise. Duh, that is what ends up causing the weight loss! The pill has nothing to do with it.
Can you tell me how much of this you take. I did see the pills come in 500 mg and I wasnt sure how
long you take it.  Do you take it when you have the fever blisters and then stop or how do you take this vitamin.  I wonder about side effects.
I don't like taking pills either, but
it will be 3 years in Novemeber that I lost my mother suddenly. Within 2 weeks I had to take my daughter to the doctor (family practice with my mother's doc there) and he talked to me at length and suggested antidepressants to at least help get through the holidays. They truely did seem to make a difference. By March I stopped taking them. It does get easier as times goes by but the pain and the missing will always be there. I had such a strong support system with family and friends that I didn't feel the need for grief counseling but a friend of mine met one on one and in a group setting to help with her grief and it truely helped her. Praying for you.
Not the one who posted on the pills but
I say good for you mom for making sure your daughter is protected.

My girls are used to frank and open discussions with me so I do not fear that they will end up a teenage mother.

My mother never discussed anything like that with me. She could barely stand to have me in her presence from as far back as I could remember.

No surprise that I was a mother by the age of 18 either. I'm going to do my best to see that my kids don't follow in my footsteps.

spider
We have those here too...they make me run fast! My brother was FURIOUS when I killed one. He went into quite a lecture about how "harmless and good" they are to have around. Arrrggghhhh!

birth control pills
There are enough hormones in birth control pills to make you have a period, even if you are in menopause.

But menopause is not a disease and it most definitely is not a mental disease.

I plan on spoiling myself during this special time. To me, it will be just as magical as before it started and I will be just as happy to see it go, but I am certainly not sick or crazy because my hormones are rockin.
birth control pills
I am so thrilled to see that you think that there is nothing mental about menopause!! All the power to you!!
I personally know how "mental" PMS was and am very thankful for an OB/GYN who agrees that the safest way to combat the mood altering affects of menopause is for me to stay on Depo until I am at least 50 and then if I have any symptoms, I will go right back on it.
I do not intend to suffer any more than I have to. I have enjoyed 13+ years of no PMS thank you very much!! Oh and my MIL went through menopause about 12 years ago and still has hot flashes and nightsweats as does a DA so I am not sure when the symptoms all go away, but I will do whatever possible to avoid the "mental" ones anyway!!!!
cranberry juice or pills?
I don't know if it works on cats, but boy does it work on humans. I would think the pills (if you could get it down the throat) would work better as it would probably take a ton of the juice.
I agree....and pills are just passed out
Like candy anymore.  I see people come into the office with a list of meds so long they cannot possibly remember the names... also, even though doctors claim they can prescribe 10 different meds for a patient without interactions, I worry about that.  How can they possibly know that, especially when every human being's chemistry is a little different.  ??
All of the above, plus killing a spider
plus Friday the 13th, plus putting shoes on a table, plus stepping on cracks in sidewalk, plus handing someone a pin! Um, just a lil' bit. LOL
We had a spider like that take up residence outside
This was when I was homeschooling our son, so it was a great lesson in the cycle of life - as long as she stayed OUTSIDE!!
No birth control pills when I had the abortions,
now how does that date me? The forms before the pills just not that good. When the BCP first came on the market, you were supposed to be married in order to obtain it. Facts that younger people would not even know now probably. Much easier now for younger people.

if you are talking about spider angiomata...sm
If you are talking about spider angiomata, broken capillaries, I get them.  I had one on the shoulder, one on the nose - zapped electronically in France in my 30s (pre-laser) - many many many moons ago and it worked!  Today, with laser, can be done effortlessly though expensive, and not real painful at all....but have only had laser hair removal w/lasers (and that's multiple multiple sessions - who can afford that?) and works minimally unless you do the multiple sessions.....
Spider bite question sm
I've looked on the internet and found the brown recluse spider bite pictures and 2 or 3 match what I have on my legs. Have an appointment tomorrow for the doctor to look at it. My question is: Has anyone had a brown recluse bite? Does it hurt? Does it itch? Did you hot pack it until you were seen?  I know-dumb questions but let me tell you, THE ITCH IS DRIVING ME NUTS!  I swear, it itches to the point where I want to lance it myself-without pain meds.  I'm trying Benadryl cream, Bacitracin, Neosporin cream, hot baths and now a heating pad. They only helps minimally. The one larger lesion has a real dark, dead looking area in the center with red and white around it-it sort of hurts along with the itch-and the other two areas are only red. What to do in the meantime until my appointment?
Possible spider bite update sm
And the diagnosis is (drum roll)----staph folliculitis. I had no idea at all it was so prevalent in this area and due to the fact that I have been on immunosuppressive therapy for years, the bacitracin just wasn't working.  Came home with a bottle of Bactrim DS and triamcinolone cream for the itch. Good to know it wasn't a bite.
Hold on, can you or can you not kill a spider?
I just killed 1 the other night and I do not know if I was supposed to do something else to go along with that or do I have a jinx from now on?
Supposedly killing a spider
brings bad luck.
Here's the spider that almost made me crap myself!

Wow, you know your spiders!  It was indeed a garden spider...Argiope.  Website does indeed say they are harmless but I don't believe that for a second!  Fangs were as huge as my head they were!

I just went out and documented the whole fiasco as best as I could...therapy really.  I found the spider and took a picture of "her."  Apparently only the ladies get this big.  As I was taking pictures, I found 3 more!!!  That's 1 spider per square foot!!  You can read about it here: http://www.perin.org/Residents/Ellie.html and just scroll down until you see "August 2007."

I'm gonna go type now because it makes me feel safe.  Yep, 2 beers into me, nursing a third, and I'm hittin' the keys.  Should be interesting.

mlstoo, update on spider bite please. nm

HA! Same spider that made me fall down in public (sm)
One of my most embarassing moments!! I was in a busy public area with a park in the middle.  I decided to cut through the park and walked right through a web of one of those and the spider was on my face!!!  I fell onto the ground, freaking out, flailing like a madwoman.  When I finally got up and realized what I had just done, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there, but I kept shaking my clothes and brushing my hair, just in case!!
Glad to hear that it was not a spider bite. I was concerned
x
I'm so happy it wasn't spider bite. Been concerned about you.

Think you had a large garden or orb-weaving spider there! Scary
