It is what most furniture is made of nowadays. It is the chips and fiber of wood that are glued and pressure pressed to be sturdy.
If it is a bombe type you probably won't want to cover it. If using different cleaners on it absolutely will not get it off you will probably need to sand the varnish off and restain, or you could sand the whole thing and paint it. Did it bubble up or swell where the wet stuff was? That's one way to tell if it is MDF. If something wet sits there while the board will swell. You can sand that down.
Some furniture also is made of particle board or MDF and then has wood veneers on the sides and tops. This is a thin sheet of real wood, approx 1/8 inch, whether it be oak, mahogany, etc. You can purchase a sheet of veneer at places like Lowes, cut to size and glue that on with rubber cement. This is how a lot of wooden doors are made that are the light weight ones. Frame made with thing plyboard topped with a wood veneer.

There is never a happy medium
This is my thoughts on this, I may be way off or something ........... but speaking as someone Middle Class let me tell you my thoughts.
There is never a happy medium. It's either Rich or Poor. Middle Class doesn't seem to get much of anything. Democrat Presidents say they are for the Middle Class, but they aren't.
You know how much more money we'll be getting a year, b/c of Obama? $23.00
We have several medical bills that are paid in small increments, because they are just "too high" for us to pay at once.
Yet, we make TOO MUCH money to get any assistance. Which I will never understand...........
But, someone who has chosen to never work a day in their life, they prefer bumming around on the street, doing drugs and selling drugs, get this free medical/dental care.
Wow! I actually use medium, but not soft. I don't understand sm
how you have cavities due to a hard toothbrush? I mean, cavities are caused by not brushing.
And root issues due to a hard brush? Again, I'm not disputing what you are saying, but enamel and gums are two completely different things.
And 2 minutes is the minimum that you should brush your teeth. The only thing I will retract in my post is the firm brush - medium is good -soft for sensitive teeth.
