My daughter had been very manipulative from a young age and the last year she lived with me almost made me insane, but she lived by my rules while making my life a living he!!. The problem was, she didn't want to live by anyone's rules.
When she told me she had set it up to go back to her dad's, I got her into therapy. On the 3rd visit with the therapist, she loaded a bunch of crap about me in his lap and he called me in to give me a tongue lashing for being so hard on her. When I told him word for word the truth of the matter, you could see her sinking in the couch. He dismissed her as a client for lying and not being ready for therapy.
I allowed her to go back on the condition that her therapy continued, but of course, she got kicked out again. She is bipolar and borderline. Now that she is a young adult, she has sought mental health treatment on her own.
Letting her go back wasn't the perfect answer, but I was almost at the point of being immobilized by her antics (almost got kicked out of my apartment by something she did). I had already turned her into the police for something she did and she was fine until her parole visits were completed.
Sometimes when we post something here, we give just a smidgen of the whole picture and it would divert attention from the question at hand to delve into details. And because you only get a smidgen, it's hard to get it.
