Sorry for your situation but I agree with earlier post. If you can communicate at all with the future ex I would try to weight pros and cons for this dog. Will your or he be able to afford the up keep. We have 5 purebreds and they ARE our children. Vet bills (1 with seizures, 1 with IDDM), b.i.d. shots, baths, yearly physicals, grooming, etc. etc. Make sure that you can afford the upkeep and same for ex. Who spends the most time with this dog and will he be cared for properly. What kind of job does ex have, will he be around to feed and care properly for pet. Whatever your decision, don't do it out of spite. Defintely keep this dog's best interest at heart. If you love this pet and definitely want to keep him I would use grounds as on previous post. I think of mine as children and demand the same respect for them.
