School lunches -
Child is entering middle school this year. Came home today with a lunch menu. Among the standard lunch are ala carte items including sports drinks, soda, pretzel with cheese, nachos with cheese, breadsticks with sauce, ice cream, etc. All of these items run abotut $1.50 a piece and of course the school encourages that you fill the student's lunch account and not send daily cash.
Of course we will talk with him and let him know what is expected but was wondering if any of you have gone through this already? Do you find that its a problem? How did you handle it? Personally, I don't see why any kid wouldn't want to skip a real lunch for a pretzel with cheese and a pepsi! It is a very good district but this has totally rubbed me the wrong way. I cannot believe they are offering this to 10-13 year old kids.
School lunches are quite healthy in this day and age...
they have a lot of standards they have to be up on. Our school serves at least 3 fruits/veggie options with every meal. They actually serve healthy things like yogurt, side salads, etc. When I was younger, school lunch was terrible, but that's changed. It went from just plain terrible when I was a kid to terrible because they served so much unhealthy pop, chips and all to now where they aren't even allowed to have pop OR chips. The ones who bring their own lunces are the eating the crud now. The weight may have been the tubs of pb eaten with a spoon rather than the actual lunches served, as being a tween you should have burned off even a crappy lunch.
Our school lunches are disgusting
It's like eating at McDonald's every day. Chicken nuggets, burgers, pizza, nachos, chips. Anything the district can get cheap. Yuck.
Yes, they do. 10-month teachers make more than 9-month
teachers. I know that for a fact. One of my sisters was a 9-month, one is a 10-month. They are compensated for working more scheduled hours.
Hot lunches
I had a similar situation around Thanksgiving. We had sent over 60 dollars to my sons lunch account. Well one day the lunch lady pulled him out of line, mind you these kids only have 20 min. lunches. After pulling my son out of line and in front of all his peers, she proceeds to tell him that if he does not have the Money he will have to have bread and water tomorrow. Talk about being angered. I had to wait a week to handle the situation as I was so upset. Then after meeting with the principal and discussing this. He chooses not to address the problem but get this- He called my son to his office and in front of all the office staff and others proceeds to call my son a liar. Since our complaint my never get in trouble son, started having letters sent home stating he had a bad attitude. The kicker was when I was at work one day the phone rings and who is it but the principal. He informs me my son was sent to see him for disrespect to a teacher. I asked if he was sure that it was ANdy. He said are you calling me a liar?? Well maybe how long ago did this happen and when did you last see Andy? He stated he had just sent him back to class. We I said, You are a liar because my son is and has been home all day ill.
Lunches for DH in the wilderness? sm
What are some ideas or what do you all fix for your DH for lunches? Mine has no access to microwaves or anything like that, just pure wilderness, but I need some ideas of something filling besides sandwiches, lol
yes, go online and type in 'easy, cheap lunches and dinners...nm

Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.
I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.
Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
Yes, especially if you are on a month-to-month basis
My mother had rental properties and has evicted tenants twice because her daughter (sis) decided she wanted to live there. Those tenants were pretty upset at the time too, because they didn't want to move. A landlord isn't required to have a reason for taking back their property or raising the rent. They will likely give you a good reference since you're been a good tenant.
A year after Katrina, all the landlords on the Gulf Coast decided to double or triple their rent, just because they could. Due to the housing crisis rents are going to continue to rise, because more people are losing their homes and looking for apartments. Its all about supply and demand.
The bright side is that working at home allows you to live "anywhere", so you could see this as an opportunity to move somewhere completely different. That's what I did, and I haven't regretted it.
If it is a month-to-month lease -
If there is no signed lease stating a specific time (1 yr, 2 yr, etc.) then it is implied as a month-to-month least and either the tenant or LL can terminate at any time.
I would look for a place pronto if I was the OP.
And she should get another job pronto too if the one she got ain't paying the bills. No reason to let it go on month after month, paycheck after paycheck, until you are in the street, that is just plain stupid.
If she is getting evicted --- there is more to this story I believe.
Yikes
$175/month.
Verizon, ComCast & DirecTV
Yikes.
Sounds like abuse to me. If she's constantly giving him Tylenol, she could kill him. I would call CPS.
Yikes.
My Miss Lily has turned out to be a fixer upper dog and I can't afford it but thankfully my vet works with me and I don't have to pay all at once.
yikes!
Please be careful while working in the storm! I normally shut down during a storm because I'm chicken, I guess.
Yikes! Well at least now I know
what to expect. I really was clueless. Thanks very much for your help.
Yikes.
Putting a face to the other person wasn't good for me. If she hadn't been such a fast little runner, I would have kicked her rear.
I stayed with my husband for a month or two after I found out, but I'm glad I left. He's just as bad, if not worse, with his second wife who is not the original "other" woman.
I hope your meeting is as peaceful as can be expected. Good luck!
yikes - that's all.

Yikes!! Please don't tell me that . . .
this may cause your hair to thin out! I have been taking Benadryl every night because I live in an area that has lots of pollens and if I don't take Benadryl at night, I wake up with either a stuffy nose or runny nose and swollen eyes. I wondered about this as it does seem my hair seems thinner. I am going to try and do some research. If anyone knows any info on this, will you please post?
YIKES!! SM
It's that mean old lady from the DMV from four years ago!!!!!!
LOL!
Kambrya? Yikes.

The difference is about $150 - yikes!
I checked out the website and a 3-week supply of entrees and shakes was $294 plus shipping. Thanks for the info, but I think I'll try NutriSystem.
Yikes - who would ever use a pharmacy like that?
*!*
Still quite disturbing, yikes!! ..nm

Yikes!! She named names!!
Between that and her extensions falling off? Yikes is right! LOL

Headin' downstairs! YIKES!
Well, my friends, it is time to go downstairs now. I am finished working for the day, and for the first time in my life I can honestly say I am sorry about that! I don't want to see anything with a tail, pointy ears, fur, sharp teeth, wings, bulging eyes, etc. Guess that leaves the ex husband out! HAAAAAAAAA! Thanks for today, all of you. I really thought I could not smile today. You are the best!
Yikes! Doesn't sound like a do-it-yourself job! /nm

Yikes. It seems so soon. And I do not like it when Easter is in March.
Too chilly for the Easter dresses and no spring flowers out yet. Not a springy Easter Bunny feeling Here in Northern New Jersey just had 4 more inches added Friday from our previous 8, which had melted away and now the white stuff back on the ground. Probably will snow on Easter, although going to be in the mid 50s today. One can only hope.
Yikes! A Paterson Affair now...
Well David Paterson, new Governor on NY as of today, is reported to have had an extra-marital affair..no prostitutes, just a long term affair. He claims it happened when his marriage was in trouble and his wife also had an affair. According to him, they then had counseling, got back together and that was that. Someone in Albany started a rumor that Paterson also had a "love child" with still another woman, but Paterson flatly denied it. I don't have a link--it's breaking news.
Yikes!! Yes, Abreva's over the counter.
I think it's around 18 for one of those little tiny tubes. Well worth it though.
Yikes-my neighbor riding a
motorcycle happens to be my son....
Yikes! Sounds like one I typed just yesterday!
I've never wanted to become pregnant.
Sounds like my kids...on a school day "we just got home from school!" on a vacation day....sm
But this is our vacation! My husband takes vacation days and leaves town without us...lol! He would never dream of taking a day off to work around the house!
YIKES! I shoulda proofread before posting. Forgive all the typos and omissions!
How is the school's fault if Johnny comes to school armed?
And how is the school's fault if off campus people are getting jumped? Everybody wants to blame the schools, but the reason places have gone "zero tolerance" is because every parent whose kid gets popped for an illegal weapon says, "Oh, my little pookie wouldn't do that." Which is exactly what the parents of every perpetrator of school violence has said. At 15, this girl should have been aware that it was verboten and, if they felt that strongly it was necessary, kept it hidden. If she is not capable of thinking that part through, maybe she shouldn't be trusted with pepper spray anyway.
How is this kid in school with chronic infestation? School nurse

buy every month
Melaleuca products you have to buy 35 products points each month to keep your account. Which is anywhere from $40 a month to whatever you want to buy. You don't necessarily have to work the business part you can earn a check each month without actually signing up any customers. Customers will be put under you by other people and you will be making money off of the products that they buy. That is waht my mother does. She isn't in it for the business she just loves the products and still gets a check each month
$347 per month

Don't go out to eat except maybe once a month.
It's amazing how much money you will save by doing all the cooking yourselves at home and brown-bagging lunch. This includes those $2 cups of coffee here and there every day--really adds up fast!
Keep your goal somewhere in site...literally slapping a picture of your dreamhouse on the fridge or some place you'll be reminded every day of why you are making the sacrifices you are making. Good luck!
Since you have a month, why don't you
get together and do a pic of the team or even a few and frame it! I'm sure he'd like that. You can even go to one of those machines, have it blown up and have it say something special down below.
Also, they like gift cards to the local convenience store. Everyone could use a gift of "gas" especially when they are volunteers...
Happy sporting! Glad you had a great coach!
Ours is usually between $200-$250 per month.
Our electric company has some of the highest rates in the country...lucky us! Our bills usually go up a bit in the summer from using the air conditioning and running the pump for our pool. Electricity is definitely our highest utility bill!
Don't have your mammo at the end of the month, then.
Or it will hurt. Schedule it when they aren't painful. I've had it before, but I took evening primrose oil capsules for maybe six months. No more trouble.
Won't the be surprised next month
This happened to an older friend of mine. Poor thing couldn't get another policy to save her life, and it wasn't a cosmetic issue, it was like entire siding pieces that flew off of her house. Oh, they and came fixed it, then they dropped her like a bad disease. They'd better be careful. Just a friendly warning... I don't know if I'd let the homeowner's insurance in on that deal, I'd cut my losses and replace the carpet.
TOM = Time of the month (sm )
Was trying to be a little modest - sorry!
Just in Vegas about a month ago
Go there a lot, the Flamingo is catty-corner to the Bellagio where we have stayed the last 2 times there. Know where it is because I went to a show there. Older place, smoky, they have real flamingos out in the back with ducks, etc, been there but not to stay. Toni Braxton headlining there and George Wallce comedian there now. Know what I talk about.
I know, she hasn't been on here in about a month or so
Hope she's okay.
I've had it about a month, it's almost gone (sm)
Dr. gave me an inhaler for the anti-inflammatory properties and a decongestant. I keep debating whether to go back but it is so low grade...I will probably wait another week or so and see if it goes away. Hope you feel better soon.
2- month window
and then there won't even be a way to give a bad rating of the dealer.
Will you come and live with me for a month or so? nm
!
wow you pay 350 a month for a HOUSE?
lucky duck, I pay 465 a month for a rented townhouse
Last month I spent $321 for 3 of us.
It's just DH, 18 year-old son, and I. We live in the Philadelphia area. We generally eat far less meat than most American families, but we aren't vegetarian. My son commutes to a nearby university and works there, as well. He provides his own lunches, and probably only eats breakfast at home half of the time.
Now, if you want to factor in what we pay for the meal plan for our son who lives away at college, well then... that's a whole other story! KA-CHING!
