I'm glad that this child's mother is helping him have a Happy Holiday, and tickled for him to have won the prize at his orthodontist's office. I had braces at what I think must be his age and I can completely understand issues with one's self esteem. As an adult, one has (in most cases) developed a more mature outlook on self and can also handle the discomfort associated with braces. The experience, however, for a teenager, is quite different I'm sure.
It's really very sad that there is a poster here who seems so determined to make herself seem better than the OP and her family and to make the OP feel bad...
