In Reply to: Confessional is for the purpose of relieving people's guilt of sin. - pastorwifemt

it never hurts to talk to others, be it a pastor or friend, etc. But no one must go through a confessional booth to have access to Christ or forgiveness. When one understands their relationship with Christ, how his blood covers our sins, we are freed from that guilt through his grace, by our repentance (turning away from the sin). With all due respect, I don't need to read up on the purpose of a confessional (which is NOT mentioned in the Bible, so again there is no authority for such) or read up on Luther's or anyone elses 'papers'. All I need is IN THE BIBLE that pertains go godliness: 2 Peter 1:3, through knowledge of HIM. You learn about Christ/God through the study of the scriptures, His inspired Word, no where else. Rom 15:16-18..dare not speak of any of those things which Christ has not wrought...unfortunately many are caught up in what some man has said, rather than being EDUCATED by what the scripture says. Study to show thyself approved, RIGHTLY DIVIDING the Word of God. That is the knowledge to be obtained.
