Is it polite to drop in on somebody
unexpectedly without calling? Our church is going through something right now, and we haven't been attending. So a couple dropped by our house one evening without calling. I was NOT ready for company. I'd been working all day and I don't have kids and I never get visitors. They barely know us. I was dying of embarrassment as they had their little visit, trying to get us to go back. DH had no choice since they were looking right in the window of the door that time. Well really it's my husband they think is great. I don't think they like me at all, despite the fact that I'm the one who was going every Sunday. I don't think they think I was involved enough, but there was one thing I was doing faithfully. DH was just going to please me and my mother, He actually has discouraged me from signing up to do things in case I embarrass him by being late or something. But it's him they call on the phone, trying to get us back.
It's not my fault when the big wigs in the church break some rules and cause trouble and make people look for another church. It's a free country. But just now while we were watching a movie somebody rang our bell. We were sitting just out of their sight, and we didn't get up. Do you know we have been assigned a Deacon who we have never even seen at church? He has sent us a couple of cards in the mail, but never introduced himself. We were told he sits in the balcony. A deacon in the balcony? Is he hiding? I chose this church because it is one DH is comfortable at, but then again they aren't exactly bringing me up to speed on what I need to know to get involved. It just seems like they are set up for people who have grown up in that kind of church and know what to do already. There are lots of other churches that have more structured new member plans where I think I won't feel so lost. But what to do about these unannounced visitors?

Drop your cable TV
Ditch your cable or dish or whatever. Get yourself an antenna for on your roof, get your coupon for your converter box for the switch over to digital and voila. Free TV.

I disagree, it is bad manners to just drop in - sm
now if you have friends that you have that open door policy with fine, but most people prefer warning so they can do a quick house clean/pick up, or have the opportunity to say no, now is not a good time. My mom always taught me to (1) wait to be invited over to someone's house and not invite yourself over there, (2) call before visiting someone. I like to be called first since our house is usually messy and this allows me time to put things away and clean up some. At my one neighbor's friends in the summer people descend upon their house every Friday night, it is crazy, eat all their food and drink all their beer, she has had it. She doesn't mind now and then but this is a regular thing. She's a direct type of person too but she doesn't want to come off rude and tell them all to get lost either. We only go down when asked and we are pretty good friends probably because of it.
I sounds like you have a foot drop. Do you..
sit with your legs crossed a lot? That can cause peroneal nerve palsy, which causes the foot drop.

Use every last drop of dish soap...sm

I don't have a dishwasher so I have to use liquid soap.  I never throw the bottle away because I can't squeeze anymore out.  When I'm running my next dishwater, I run water in the bottle and use every last drop.  The cap even has enough residue on it for 1 load.  Same goes for shampoo and conditioner.  Even laundry soap.

I'll often use shampoo for body wash.  If you use Suave or VO5 it's usually only .99 a bottle and when it's on sale for less than that I'll buy a few bottles.  It's a lot cheaper than bodywash.

I try to do errands and appointments on the same day.  Mapped out right so I save gas.

Never buy infant, toddler, preschool kids clothes brand new.  Buy at thrift, second hand stores or garage sales.  They outgrow them faster than the bank statement arrives.  They also tend to stain and ruin clothes pretty darn easily and quickly.

Awesome!! Normally it doesn't drop below 100
until February right? LOL... Enjoy!!!
Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Do any of your cats drop their toys in the water bowl?
It's the funniest thing with mine.   When Lucky was a baby he'd drop his toys in the toilet and just have a blast trying to fish them out.  Then he'd come jump up on the desk with me and shake his wet paws off.  Lucky and Sofia both drop their toys in the water bowl.  Sofia loooooooves those little fur mice.  She will go to town chasing them around and then she drowns them either in the water bowl or the toilet.  I have learned to check before I sit down on the potty - I think I've flushed more than one mouse away.

Folic acid and dementia link - take your folic acid!! (sm)
Key vitamin deficiency linked to tripled risk of dementia: study

1 hour, 53 minutes ago

Lack of folate, also called vitamin B-9, may triple the risk of developing dementia in old age, according to a study published Tuesday.

Researchers in South Korea measured naturally occurring folate levels in 518 elderly persons, none of whom showed any signs of dementia, and then tracked their development over 2.4 years.

At the end of the period, 45 of the patients had developed dementia, including 34 diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, said the study, published by the British Medical Association's Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

When the researchers, led by Jin-Sang Yoon of Chonnam National University in Kwangju, South Korea, remeasured folate levels, they uncovered a strong link with the dementia.

Even after other factors were taken into account -- including age, disability, alcohol consumption, weight change -- "the onset of dementia was significantly associated with an exaggerated decline in folate," the researchers concluded.

Folate and folic acid, another form of the compound, are essential for the creation of new cells in the body.

The compound occurs naturally in leafy vegetables such as spinach, turnip greens, lettuces, dried beans and peas and in certain fruits.

An study published last year in The Lancet showed an improvement in short-term memory, mental agility and verbal fluency among persons over 50 who took a daily dose of 800 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid. The US recommended daily dose is 400 mcg.

Taking folic acid before conception and throughout the first trimester helps a mother ensure that her child will not develop certain brain and spinal cord defects, including spina bifida, according to previous research.

I'm sure I'd be singing a different tune if I was in Ohio! :-D
But it's neat to see it here!
Omega fatty acid supplements helped my son a lot (sm)
I just by the gummy supplements brand name Little Critters at Target. After a couple of weeks on them, my son himself, at the age of 9, recognized the difference in how he felt and he now reminds me when we run out, that I need to get him some more.
The latest on this looney-tune story
Her family has asked that the public not judge her. I heard this morning she was a mother first and foremost. She has 3 children but like I have stated many times before, you NEVER know what a person might do. Being first and foremost did not stop this person for being charged with attempted murder. My hubby also stated if you had to wear a diaper as an adult, surely you would not want millions to know about it. I feel sorry for her family.
Cool! He sounds like a radio trying to tune in

Your turn
Can anyone's life possibly be as boring as yours obviously is?

NOPE!

:) :)

Okay, go ahead and post - Your turn!
Maybe you could turn it around
for yourself.  Look at it with a different perspective.  Do something to help someone else to make yourself feel better.  God bless you!!   Something I did was donated money to WorldVision they have a wonderful gift catalog that helps people around the world with things like seeds for plants, wheelchairs, etc.  It is okay to have the blues at times, I love this time of the year but have difficult days during this time of the year as well.  It is okay!  Take a day at a time and enjoy.
Certainly you CAN turn them in but not a law to do

If he did, it would probably turn out like
Taylor Hicks, don't hear much about him.
Don't you think if his dad was willing I would turn to him first? (sm)
Do you really think you are the only person who knows right from wrong and has values? You have no idea how hard I try to do the best for my children in every aspect. I went to four marriage counsellors, talked pastors, read books, prayed and begged my husband to make our marriage work. His mother had cancer and I waited two years for her to get better so that I would not add to everyone's strife. Now his mother is sick again with cancer, found out after I left, and she has called me and expressed that she understands why I left. I let my childrenspend the whole Easter weekend with her and their dad even though I missed them terribly. I am really a good person. I'm also very offended.
would you turn this other mom/son in?
The case where the 13-year old boy has cancer and his parents don't want him to take the chemo/radiation treatments, so she took off with him. They want Native American holistic help instead. If you saw them, or knew where they were, would you turn them in?

Has our country taken a turn for the ...

Our once great country, I afraid, has just turned a corner for the worse. I have watched as the mentality of our country has gone from setting your mind to something, working hard, and you can accomplish it to giving up, sitting back, and letting somebody else take care of them.

I was brought up, as many were, with a good work ethic that was instilled in us by our parents. With the idea that if you want something you had to work for it, and by working for something you learned quickly the difference between wants and needs.

There were always incentives for a person to strive to better themselves. Whether it were financial incentives, or just the pride you gained in knowing that you did something yourself, it didn’t matter.

I wasn’t long ago that people had that “small town” mentality, and everybody knew their neighbors. And those neighbors helped each other out, in any situation, it was just what you did. And people were so proud that some times help would have to be disguised, you remember the lines like..”Mom made more stew than we could eat, could you help us out by taking it so that it doesn’t go to waste?”

But, somewhere along the line those thoughts of some (I guess now the majority) have changed. Some how, if somebody works hard to gain something others feel entitled to have the same things, even if they didn’t have to go through the struggle to earn it. Some how, things like big screen TVs, cell phones, and shiny new cars have wrongly slipped from the “wants” list to the “needs” list.

Somewhere the incentives to strive for betterment have been replaced by incentives to be lazy. The easy way out and hand outs are now the norm. The feeling of pride about being self sufficient is supposed to be replaced by guilt for having more than others.

The “small town” mentality is gone and our neighbors have turned into strangers. People no longer help out their neighbors or even themselves, instead they sit and wait for the government to come solve things for them. And when help does come they complain that the help wasn’t good enough or didn’t come fast enough, the pride is gone.

Well, I refuse to think that way, my small town roots and work ethic runs to deep. I refuse to let somebody take care of me while I am willing and able to take care of myself. I will continue to meet and know my neighbors and help them out when they need it. I will continue to work hard to take care of my needs and by doing so, my wants will take care of themselves. I will continue to volunteer for things and give to charities of my choice regardless of what the government wants to take away from me and give to the undeserving.

My hope is to change the thinking back to the way it was. The sun will rise again tomorrow, I’ll keep doing what I do, and this country can be great again….at least in my little corner of it…

How did it turn out, what did you bring???
Love to know!
it was about 3 years ago and if I can turn him in I want to (sm)
I have been upset with him for years for keeping me from turning my husband in. I thought I had to wait for another major incident before I could report anything. Can I actually go back now, 3 years later and report him? Because I would like to.

People don't turn gay, they either are or they aren't - sm
so either he is bisexual or he is gay but married you to appear normal, or maybe he wanted kids and figured that by marrying a woman that would be the only way he would ever have children. First thing I would do is go get checked out medically by your OB/GYN for STDs, HIV, etc. If your sex life is less than wonderful then he is probably gay, if it is great then he is probably bisexual. I have a friend (male) who is bisexual, while he likes sex with women he prefers men. Obviously it is time you had a very serious talk with your husband and don't be snowed by his explaination which I am sure will be quite inventive. No straight man would be caught dead looking at gay porn (unless it is 2 women) or calling gay sex lines. I hope there are not children involved because that is going to make this harder for you than it already is.
Seriously, no law. You dont turn 1099 into the IRS.

Weight watcher turn off
I checked out their program this past Friday. I hate when the receptionist starts trying to tell me how losing at least 10% of your weight will do this and that. Being in the medical field I feel that I could put more in than she would know, such as excessive weight can play part in some cancers, high blood pressure, diabetes and on and on. I got the feeling that when I mentioned I worked in the health field and then started to say what else weight supposedly plays a big role in she did not care for. I really do not need lecture from lay person.
Why do most people turn Christmas
Into such a fiasco?  Christmas should be for the little ones who believe in Santa Claus and whose eyes light up when they see the presents underneath the tree.  Getting gifts for grownups is ridiculous.  You are celebrating the birth of Christ not your family!!  Get a grip -
she could turn into a mercedes nichols if they don't do anything about it.
