The ring is symbolic of a union.
If you can't even agree on who should pick out the ring, you may want to rethink your union with this gent. There are going to be so many issues that will arise in your marriage that will need you to come together and make a decision. It starts now though. Some food for thought. I would rethink the whole reason for wanting to "get the ring". I would not focus too much on who picks it out. You may want to see a marriage counselor beforehand to see if you two are the "right fit". It doesn't sound too good starting out a union in this manner. JMO. Good luck.
Try a credit union. Don't pay fees; use

Sure I have a BF or 2 who are not members of
I think of them as honorary royalty members who were mislaid at birth.
Yes.....I can ocassionally tell them things/matters that my family doesn't know yet. Nice to have another head or 2 to bounce ideas around with. Nice to have a gigglefest at all hours o the night. Just nice that we all got to know each other.
Talk to a local bank or credit union.
That is a HUGE downpayment and that will more than likely offset any bad juju as far as credit rating. You may be pleasantly surprised...we were and we also had crappy credit but because of the large downpayment, that worked in our favor and were able to get an incredible rate with a local bank. Above anything else, avoid those pieces of crap you see advertised on TV and on the computer. Nothing but predators that should be smacked upside their heads with a 2x4.
I have family members who live like that (sm)
I don't know if I could ever be happy that way. I guess the question is - do you love your ex and were you happy living with him?
Right now my children are still young and I have to provide them with a good place to live. Some day when they are all grown up and moved out, I will probably simplify my life as much as possible. However, living with someone smoking and drinking all the time isn't for me. Is it for you? Can you just live somewhere cheaper? Can you find a roommate to share expenses with whose lifestyle is more like your own?

Courts in Atlanta lied to, kids given to nonfamily members
I know for a fact, had 2 grandkids, my husband's daughter by previous marriage- we took in, their g'father died, I had in my care for awhile- real mother went to court, lied to have children stay with a nonmember (heard stories before about this person selling/doing drugs) and the courts turned them over. For the most part, I am very glad to be out of that swinging door system, otherwise known as the court system.
