We'll use the word inexpensive instead of cheap. LOL

It is hard to find anymore.  The industry takes averages from what I read and if you are not average you're just in bad shape.  No pun.

I have decided to learn to sew as time allows.  I made 2 shirts last year and they fit better and are more comfortable than anything I have bought.

from a practicing devout Christian
we should indeed learn about different religious beliefs -- but God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). There is ONE faith, not many (Ephesians 4:5). He has outlined in His inspired Word what the 'church' consists of (Eph 1:22, 23), how it is to be governed (Elders, deacons and their requirements), how it is structured (Christ is the head), how we are added to it (Acts 2:47, 2:41). Christ 'built' His church (Matthew 16:18), not the catholic church, not the lutheran, baptist, mormon, etc., but His church. I do agree in being respectful, but also in stating the Biblical truth in a factual matter. And remember, we are not to add to or take away from His Word.
From a cradle, practicing Catholic.
I've been a Catholic all my life, received the sacraments, married in the Church to a fellow cradle Catholic, sent our children to Catholic school, and attend Mass every week.

I'm steamed at your DD's situation, too!

My guess is that this is an older priest, and he has issues. Contact his bishop in his diocese and get the REAL information about Catholic marriage.

Yes, when a non-Catholic marries a Catholic, the non-Catholic must agree that children will be raised in the Church. As part of the rite of matrimony, on the day of the wedding, they will be asked three things before they say their vows. They will be asked if they have come freely without reservation to be joined in marriage. Will they love and honor each other as man and wife for the rest of their lives? And finally, they will be asked if they will accept children lovingly from God and bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church.

That pretty much covers the bases. Remembering that the Catholic Church does not allow divorce, the first two points cover that. Neither party to the marriage must have been married previously. Annulments versus divorce are another topic, and that does not apply to your DD, so I'll skip that discussion. But the couple to be married must understand fully that they are entering into a sacramental marriage for the rest of their lives until parted by death.

Accepting children from God and raising them in the Church is the last part. We could discuss the topic of birth control, but on that point, I'm not the one to argue. I'm a good Catholic except on that point, and one day I suppose I'll learn if I really was a sinner for using b.c. or not. Anyway, that's another topic.

Regarding the wedding dress, it is true that good taste requires that shoulders be covered in a Catholic church. It's not a hard and fast rule, and it's almost impossible these days to find a dress with sleeves anyway. Twenty-five years ago when I was married, we all had big, puffy sleeves and big hair. Strapless is today's fashion, and those come and go. I would probably deal with that by adding a shrug to wear in church and then remove for the reception. Still, it's not a hard and fast rule, and the priest is just being a stickler about tradition. I've been to many Catholic weddings recently where the brides wore strapless dresses. The old people in the church murmur and disapprove over it, but it doesn't affect the marriage.

To summarize my long response, please have your DD and son-in-law consult with the diocese. Don't just shop for another priest. Go right to the priest's boss, the bishop. Your DD should not have to jump through hoops. In fact, these silly hoops are the sorts of things that push people away from not only the Catholic faith, but from all churches. I'm sure we've all heard people tell stories about how some priest, minister, nun, or church lady did something to upset someone, and so now so-and-so won't step foot in a church again. That's the real sin!

But also remember, that for Catholics, marriage is a sacrament. It's not just a ceremony. We believe in 7 sacraments, all instituted by Christ. It's a serious matter. Because the Church and the community of the faithful see it that way and believe marriage to be a lifetime commitment, there is a definite way for the sacrament to be received. Encourage your DD and future son-in-law to learn more about it, but to learn from good sources, including diocesan officials. I would also suggest they get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or the more simply written book, This Is Our Faith by Michael Francis Pennock. If they arm themselves with true facts, then perhaps this resistant priest will be made to do the right thing.

Ooh, deadliest catch
My husband and son have just gotten into watching that. I usually work that time of night but they seem to be really into it and it makes me curious about it. I will have to check it out. When you mentioned Emergency it reminded me that I love to watch the ER shows on discovery at night. Sometimes I can catch them before bed. I feel like I get to SEE what I type all day long. :)
Many catch 22s in life

Here's a few I've run across in the course of my life...

You can't get a job without experience...but how do you get work experience without a job?

You can't get credit unless you don't need it...but without it how do you get in a position to not need it?

You can't get a date with a hottie unless you're a hottie, but if you try to date people that aren't hotties, they refuse to date you because they want to date a hottie....

Play by the rules, work hard and life will be golden...and when that doesn't work out because lazy rule-breakes stole all the gold, its your fault, you must not have been trying hard enough.

Life isn't fair.  Get used to the idea.  And keep trying anyway.

Anybody else catch the little LOST show
that was on last night? It was the writers or producers or something discussing the show. They must read the message boards, like the ABC one and possibly the AOL one, and see all the fan theories. I only saw it because we have DVR set up, and it recorded. I'm going to watch it again with DH.

I suppose there will be a recap of it on the LOST website if you missed it.
Did you catch the photo on Fox of her taken out of her estate?
Gosh, she looks like you or me, did not seem like she had time to have her makeup done professionally before her next 15 minutes. Not hot.

Gonna catch flak for this, but what I would do
is get a bunch of switches and light his legs up any and every time he wants to be as bad as you are saying. I probably could guarantee with the sting you are not going to have to put up with that type of behavior day after day. Of course, with people trying to be so politically correct they will say no spanking/switching/beating, etc., etc. but YOU are the one having to deal with this out of control child.

Did anyone catch this? "is pregnant, has given birth" LOL sm
One is a pregnant woman who has given birth to a healthy baby; he declined to give any other details, including locations.

She 'IS' pregnant but yet she has given birth! Wow, she must be pregnant with twins and only one has delivered thus far, LOL!! Don't ya just love our editing skills as an MT...
Can't ever catch a break! Missed court date for

I got a ticket 4 days before Christmas for having an expired tag (had planned to get it taken care of when my income taxes came in - my fault, but crap, I've been broke the whole year!).  So I got the tag renewed the next day because the cop said they would be looking again after New Year's to write another ticket (have seen that my city has had a 25% increase in tickets written in the last month - like they need the revenue!).  So, all I had for my little one was a PlayDough activity center under the tree $15, and a pink umbrella and some candy in the stocking from Santa.  She was happy, though.

I've had that **??@$ ticket next to my monitor to look at it every day for the last 2 months to remind myself to go before the judge and ask for an extension of paying it until Friday when my check comes in.  I have literally been living paycheck to paycheck, sometimes with only $8 in my account in between.  Well, tomorrow I am scheduled to go to a different court to get a child support order (money I'll never see anyway), and I picked up my big orange folder to put my income tax return in it to take with me.  Guess where I put it?  Yup, right on top of that **??@$ ticket.  Yup, I forgot to go to court last night.  Was being bombarded with emails that my accounts could lose power due to the storm and all MTs needed to empty the systems.  Now there is an arrest warrant out on me.  I talked to a clerk at court and he told me to stay indoors until Friday, then come in and pay to have the warrant removed, then I can get a new date to pay the **??@$ ticket.

Well, I have to go to CS court tomorrow, but at least it is just a short hop onto the interstate and then quickly out of my city limits.  If I can just make it till Friday, pay the warrant, maybe my karma will start changing.  For the last 15 months, I feel like I am the little kid on Charlie Brown that walks around in a dust cloud.  I have seen the inside of more court rooms in the last year than most people see in their lives with getting custody of GD.  I must have done something really nasty to have this kind of karma for this long.  Oh, well.  They say when you're down, the only way to go is up. At least paying to have the warrant removed is less than the ticket and it gives me another month to come up with the money for that.  I'm so broke, I can't even get drunk to forget my troubles!  Maybe my luck will change by St. Patty's Day

p.s.  I had to edit this message because I used the word s-t-u-p-i-d to describe that ticket and the website wouldn't let me use it, thus the **??@$ symbols !!

I love Nancy Grace. working, but will try to catch this one later

Last word on this, a big L
for loser!!! I saw her in interviews over the years and until she got with Stern never talked about her mother the way after they got together. I think Daniel and Annas death really ought to be really looked at, very closely. I think he wanted total control and I am glad the way it worked out, but then never thought any differently.

More you can do to get the word out

Please pass the word along ....  This toy, the Pimple Ball, has a single hole and a bell inside.  It is made in 3 sizes.  The dog gets the toy in the mouth, a vacuum effect is created because there is only 1 hole.  If the vacuum is not broken immediately, vascular flow to the tongue starts to be impacted.  The more force applied to remove the ball, the more stuck it becomes.  If unsupervised while playing, the dog can reach a major state of distress before anyone realizes what has happened. The dog featured in this heartbreaking story is not the only animal that has been injured by this toy.

If you have a vet that you frequent, make his office aware (I emailed the info to mine).  I also called our largest doy supply distributor locally, and he pulled the toy off the racks as we spoke.

I know as of 2 weeks ago there was a petition started on the web asking Four Paws Inc to recall this toy until they correct the single hole issue.

my word
For over 25 years, I have misspelled the word "this". It always comes on "sh_t". I have had to put it in my word correct key. My fingers just refuse to type THIS.
The word we should be using here is
God teaches us to be accountable one to another.

Christians are also accountable to one another. In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, we read that Christians are all part of the same body - the body of Christ - and each member needs or belongs to the other. This Scripture suggests the importance of strong accountability between Believers. It is important for every Believer to have at least one other person in which to confide, pray with, listen to, and encourage.

Galatians 6:1-2 gives a helpful principle, "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." If your accountability friend has done something contrary to the Bible, you are called to confront him gently, forgive him, and comfort him. It also admonishes you to consider yourself because no one is above temptation.

Whatever, I think you just need to have that last word
so obviously there is nobody left in your little world to argue with.  You really made my point with your response.  IF you didn't work, there would be no savings and all the extra things that you do with your savings would be gone, so see?  You DO need to work just like the rest of us.  If not, then quit and give your job to somebody who does need it, that way you can sit home and do your nails and eat bon-bons.  Happy Holidays to you, "Honey"
Ah, I get it - let's play WHO GETS THE LAST WORD!
LMAO!!!!

Go ahead and take your little victory for the day - I know you're just itching to.

Can't wait to see your reply - and thank you for proving me correct in advance!

*Alcohol* is the key word here - sm
and reeking of it is definitely a red flag. How would they get to the lake? By car? Alcohol and cars = trouble. Also, alcohol and water are a bad combination as well. If you're still on the fence about it, you could call the friend's mother and ask if the father is going or not. Chances are she's heard this question before..........
that word should be altar...duh! nm

Actually, I did ask that...plus a swear word or two.

I can have such a potty mouth sometimes...I swear, sometimes I sound like a sailor!

Anyway, back on subject here...I did ask my brother and sister in law about that and they told me she had been on the pill since she was 13!!  Again, rendered me just about speechless except for the F bomb, which was all I could really manage.  No apparent worries of STDs or just plain 'ol self-esteem and self-respect.

They (the parents) completely lost my respect years ago.  At least the youngest out of the 3 has a chance.  She sees how messed up the whole situation is and knows the key to success isn't what's in her pants.  She's just staying low, staying on the honor roll, and has her sites set on pre-Vet, which is oh so totally too cool for school.  She's the only one of the 3 that ever liked hanging out with me, so I take that as a HUGE compliment....either that or she really is "not right."

Thanks for the encouraging word.
Sasha is at the oncologist right now, getting a dose of chemo for lymphoma. The biggest worry was that her calcium was up at 18, but they got it down where they could give her the chemo.

Hopefully she will respond well.
