Gift Card
Just a note. I learned from my daughter and my neices that the VISA gift cards are the prefered gift card. They can be used anywhere salons, stores, and even gas stations which for a 16-yo can be a lifesaver.
Maybe not a gift card
but a gift certificate to a groomer might be nice!
I agree. They always love $$ which a gift card is. sm
Especially if you don't know her.  But if you have a favorite lotion you use, or something cosmetic, for that amount $20,  they really love new, special cosmetics, too.
I agree with the gift card idea!
It's not worth putting a ton of thought and money into something if they're just going to end up selling it and not appreciating it. A gift card is a great way to give someone a chance to get something that they want. I got lots of gift cards this Christmas and loved every one of them!
Gift card to a game store? (sm)
You could hardly go wrong with that. Here we have one called Gamestop and that is always the birthday gift everyone requests.
Yup...got 2 for Abercrombie & Fitch, Starbucks, and a $100 American Express gift card
Love them all! I'm going shopping this weekend!
Book of movie passes? Gift card to a popular restaurant? Ice or roller skating

Credit Card Reform Can Cost Good Card Users

Part of article:

Credit cards have long been a very good deal for people who pay their bills on time and in full. Even as card companies imposed punitive fees and penalties on those late with their payments, the best customers racked up cash-back rewards, frequent-flier miles and other perks in recent years.

Now Congress is moving to limit the penalties on riskier borrowers, who have become a prime source of billions of dollars in fee revenue for the industry. And to make up for lost income, the card companies are going after those people with sterling credit.

We pay off our balance every month. If they do this (punish those who have sterling credit) Ridiculous!! I'll stop using my CC and pay by cash or check.

So much for reform.

Sorry. Don't mean to be picky... sm
But it's not *workmans'* comp, it's *workers'* comp.  No offense intended.  It just bugs me when people say workmans.  Ya gotta include us womens, too.  ;o)
Not very picky, but will not eat -

Liver

Grits (cannot stand the way it feels in my mouth)

White bread

Blue cheese (literally makes me gag!)

Sheep or goat cheese

Spam

Sushi

That is probably most of them.

Well your DILs might not like them - I am not that picky (sm)
Poor childhood here too. I like everything to be clean and like nice things but a few frayed edges on my child's blanket aren't gonna bother me ;-) They are throw sized.
IMO a card would not be out of order at all. Except a sympathy card, of course.
I totally agree a sympathy card wouldn't quite be the thing, but it sounded to me that the original poster of that idea didn't mean a sympathy card like one for death. I think sympathy in the sense of "hey, you had a rough time of it with this birth, and maybe things haven't been the way you imagined, but know that I'm thinking of you and I'm here if and when you need me."

I got PPD when my breastfeeding relationship didn't go right, following a birth plan that went seriously awry, and the reality of a fussy, picky baby instead of the happy, sleeping one that I had imagined.

I *did* spend a lot of time on the phone, but then everybody's different. I would have loved to get a cheerful card from a friend, however. Does anybody NOT like a card?
Fortunate ours are picky in this case....sm
Our cats won't eat anything but Little Friskies and Fancy Feast, and Meow Mix dry food, so thank goodness for that. Our dogs have eaten Mighty Dog, which is on the list, so I am a little concerned.
Must be tricky for picky eaters!
No child has ever turned this down. My cousin's son would not eat anything except four or five foods and she bet me he wouldn't eat it. You have to give them five bucks to "try it" and they keep eating it (at first they say it is just "okay", but will eat it anyway. I don't know why, it seems like it could be something yucky to some of them because it does have broccoli in it. They ate that too after having it served a few times.

Denise's Casserole

One large can of white chicken or two small cans drained.

Two boxes of Noodles Romanoff or similar from Noodle Roni - Prepared.

A bunch of broccoli and use only the "little trees" - wash, rinse and put in glass dish 13 x 9 or so and add a half cup of water. Steam in microwave about 3 minutes. Drain.

One small box Velveeta "grated" (it is soft, so that term is used loosely)

Mix noodles and chicken with a wooden spoon. Salt and pepper a little.

Move broccoli to the side and then Pam spray the 13 x 9 casserole dish and space out broccoli evenly in the bottom of the pan. Spread prepared noodles mixed with the canned white chicken over the broccoli. Cover it up!

Place Velveeta over all and bake in a 325-350 degree oven for about 25-30 minutes until bubbly.

Tell them at first that they only have to eat one tree. Next time, two. It worked with all my kids, with all my relatives' kids, and others. They start to like it and I let them help bake it. If they make it they are proud, so they will taste it. Branch out into other stuff slowly. My husband and I got tired of them wanting this three times a week, but it worked.
_________

Another thing, if they like spaghetti you can grate vegetables and put them in the sauce. Start out small.

You can also add grated potato and carrot to ground round with maybe some rice and grated onion (if you grate it they can't see it as well), eggs, etc. to make meatballs. Use cream sauce if they don't like tomato based sauce, like the jarred Alfredo sauce, or make your own with cream and parmesan.

Good luck.
I'm not picky and like most foods that others hate.
But, I won't touch chicken salad with a 10-foot pole! Hate the stuff! And ketchup. Ack! What a terrible way to use wonderful tomatoes!

I'm not too picky but have texture issues with oatmeal sm
Hot cereals in general are not my thing but oatmeal gags me. Green olives, anything malt (vinegar, beverages, etc), apple cider vinegar, salmon or any other fatty fish, couscous. And raw cauliflower makes my tongue and throat burn but is okay if cooked.
jewelry
Check out ebay, just type in bakelite and check all categories. I actually did this today when I read your post. You can get some ideas there.
Eye Jewelry (heard of this?)
I hope this link works -- Have you heard of this before? It is "eye" jewelry. Jewelry that hangs from a thin wire from your contacts - it freaks me out LOL (I do, however, kind of like the contacts with the crystals in them)

Scroll down a little bit and there is a youtube video of someone wearing it
beaded jewelry sm
I did start this hobby and used only the best beads, there are a lot of online companies who will sell to you but I found after much expense and hard work that "everyone" is doing it and I attended a few craft shows but they were overrun with people who all made beaded jewelry. I don't know, perhaps I'm sick of working with my hands, it went pretty fast and I was proud of myself, but ended up giving it all away as gifts and gave up on trying to sell it. It's all the rage now to be taking beading classes and there are just too many selling it. If I'm going to sit all those hours, I make more in transcription and feel like I cheapened myself by getting into the "jewelry industry." Just my take on it, as I said, I used expensive beads, sterling silver clasps, and spent a lot of money which I did not get back. I have the most necklaces in town and I don't even wear jewelry -- too much "clanking, too much noise." It is also very addicting, "just one more necklace" and you end up with a hundred. Also, I pictured people walking down the aisle in church and the necklace breaking - so I was reluctant to sell them! Just my craziness, I guess. I did take a few lessons - $$$ - about $40 a pop only to see it repeated or in one case, "copied" by another crafter - that really p-hissed me off, that was my original creation after all! See what others have to say, perhaps you will like it.
New find on the jewelry side....
I posted below when asking about Bakelite I thought I had and now looking on the web I find out I have even more, that being cellaloid jewelry and cameos, possibly a Bakelite radio that belonged to my father and some other jewelry. I am so excited because I can hardly wait to see what others would pay for it. So glad I found out from others about not having at yard sale! I would have really sold myself short. BYW, does anyone out there have any of the above mentioned and if so, have you sold or know your price on these particular types of jewelry. Thanks!
Does anyone make beaded jewelry?
I am interested in making beaded jewelry but not sure where to start.  Do any of you make beaded jewelry?  If so, where do you find the best prices for beads?  Do you make jewelry to sell or just for fun?  Thanks for the info.
Does anyone sell Lia Sophia jewelry?

Just curious if anyone sells Lia Sophia or how you make out with it moneywise.  I just signed up and it seems like a pretty good deal.  I hosted a party and then decided to sign on after seeing the amount of commission you could make.  I had 6 people at my party and took 4 or 5 outside orders.  I think the lady made about $200 off my party, plus I got a bunch of free/discounted jewelry.  Is it really that easy?

I have 4 parties booked in January and 1 more yet to schedule.  I'm hoping to bring in about $1000 per party and 2 parties a week, so maybe $600 a week.  Is this realistic?  Anyone else been doing this for a while and can offer any advice?

My DH wears no jewelry whatsover - sm
he also has a big thing with tags and scent too, very sensitive skin, not one shirt of his still has a tag in it. When we were first married he would wear his ring when I forced him too in social situations, but just was not worth the hassle and he is not one to keep quiet about his wife and family, so I have no worries on that score. He really cannot wear it at work either as he puts his hands in high voltage tanks and one guy tried it once with his ring on, almost lost his finger when it arc welded to the tank and burnt him really badly, so that is a good reason not to wear it to work. Also he is rarely anywhere without us, and if so it is usually with guys, no women, and they all know he is married with 2 kids. The other point being even if a man wears a ring he can still cheat! I don't always where my ring either though I do wear it.
Really amazing, isn't it? Guess she loves real jewelry or something.
c
Beaded jewelry... Most craft stores have supplies.

If you have a local craft store, that's a great place to start.  Also, if you Google beading jewelry, you can find video how-to's.

I thought it was fun at first, but I haven't picked it up again.  The beads are intricate and I found the major problem was size of the actual jewelry.

It would make great gifts though.

You are sooo right!

I was simply posting from my point of view.  I've been there, ready to throw in the towel and call it quits.  Now I am so glad I didn't. Our counselor is wonderful, she never once said for me or my husband to leave.  She's teaching us how to divorce-proof our marriage.

To Done:  Please follow your own heart and mind.  We don't know you from Adam's house cat, so it's not fair for you to rely on our advice.  Just consider all your options, you'll know what is right for you and your family...

To EverydayMT:  You need some reading lessons, Hooked on Phonics perhaps?

Oh God, that is just sooo great. sm
I'm so happy for the families.
this is all sooo funny

to people who think things are being shoved in their face!  We all can't have the outside world revolve around us.  there are things a lot of people don't like, but what can you do, life goes on. life can be sweet and precious though. you take the good with the bad (or what you consider bad) in your day to day life. I thought most grownups understood this.

That would be sooo nice.
We've been getting rain here in NC, so I'm grateful for that, but I am not in love with the head and humidity.
Wow! That is sooo cool! (sm)
Congratulations! I don't have any advice - but would like some! How do you buy a forclosed house?? I may be in the divorced boat soon myself and I would love to know how to do something like that!
He is SOOO CUTE!
What a little lover!  Have a great time Misha and I know he will help heal your pain and leave the great memories and provide wonderful new ones in the future.  I've got a new puppy, too, so need to figure out how to post a pic to share...
I would sooo love to go there and get
my first tattoo by one of them. But Pennsylvania is a little far away from Miami! Love that show.
I am sooo happy that I am not the only one!
I am also about 7 weeks and I have been so, so bloated.  This is my third pregnancy and I dont recall the other ones being like this either, although, I got very sick with my second one with stomach trouble and had a little of that this time too.  So, I thought it was just me!  Glad its normal.  Congrats and hope you have a good pregnancy.
I am sooo glad to see this...sorry you had trouble but...sm

I took it for 1.5 days and started getting odd, painful muscle spasms in the back of one thigh.  I looked it up and saw that was not only a side effect but apparently a serious side effect, so called the doc to get something else.  He had never heard of that reaction!!  I still refused to take it and got something else.  Then had to go to a specialist for different problem.  I asked him about that side effect with Cipro, and he had never heard of it.  I know they think I'm nuts, but I know that's what it was.  The spasm frequency slowed one day after stopping Cipro, but it didn't quit entirely for several days.  I won't ever take it again.

Oh, what a relief. --sooo happy for you!.nm
nm
She's sooo young to throw her dignity away.
How can she not realize she has her whole life ahead of her with no way to take her weirdness back.
Sooo true! But I didn't mess her up.
No really, she is a rescue.

:oD

looool, what a witty comment!!! Sooo
x
Loooool, yeah, like his body is sooo hot!
I don't know, maybe to some, but he's definitely not my type.  I never understood the attraction.
Mine are older now, but I can sooo relate (sm)
You're not overreacting, but when you are married into that type of family you have to pick and choose your battles. I would say your daughter is probably safe, your mil is probably being slow and careful (I hope?) but I would ask her to use some of the ear-protective type "earmuff" looking things that block out sound. It is a thin line to tread because they see nothing wrong with this type of lifestyle when it is the opposite of what you would do. Unfortunately you may have a long battle ahead of you because I have. My children are now 8 and 11 and I have been labelled the "overprotective mother" the whole time. Too bad. I do pick and choose my battles with them but if something is unsafe it is unsafe and they will just have to not like you. What are they gonna do, kick you out of the family? lol - I think not. And they have to be nice to you so they get more baby time - use your leverage, but be fair and try to give a little too. Ask yourself it is is truly dangerous before you react - if it is, then don't allow it.
Victoria's Secret models are sooo young!
Does anyone else get Victoria's Secret catalogs, and do you think the models are too young? I just came in from getting my mail, and a new catalog arrived with "New Dream Angels" on the cover. The model is a girl, in my opinion. If that young lady is older than 14 or maybe 16 at the most, I'd be surprised. I'm 46, and I don't expect VS to use middle-aged or elderly models, but it would be nice if they were at least adults!
i have a date with a doctor fri night!!!! please wish me luck; i am sooo neverous....nm

Oh SOOO cute. But please read inside for a warning (I'm a dog owner) sm

Puppies develop habits really quickly, so discourage licking the can thing.  Mine would get cans out of the garbage and one had a cut edge and he terrribly cut his mouth and tongue.  I felt like such a careless dog mom.  A true accident, but now maybe I can help you prevent the same thing?  Please excuse my post... I am not a know-it-all and I actually don't like it when someone posts something lighthearted and then someone (like me) gets kind of off topic in the thread with a reply like this one, but maybe it will help you prevent an accident.  But this is an adorable picture and I love your puppy.

Horrible sore throat - neg flu, neg strep - hurts sooo bad (sm)
they gave me magic mouthwash, I am using that plus Chloraseptic which they said was ok, they gave me zithromax just in case, which I started taking, I am using naprosyn and sudafed too.  So....Sudafed, naprosyn, magic mouthwash, and chloraseptic and my throat is still killing me. Has anyone else had this and/or does anyone have any suggestions???  I have just had a low grade temp which is gone now, very runny nose and some body aches which are not that bad.  But the throat - oh my goodness I can't even explain how bad it is.
I disagree. I still have my class ring (class of 1985). It's tucked away in my jewelry...

box.  My fingers are too fat to wear it now, but it has sentimental value.  Mine was just a metal ring as well and it still looks great.

I gave my class ring to a boyfriend back in the day and it wore it on his pinky.  Then he lost it on the beach at the local lake.  We ended up breaking up not too long after that and I thought I would never see my ring again.  Then one day I'm reading the local paper and there's an add that said "LORI -- did you lose your class ring at city lake?  Call... and describe the ring."  I called the number and described the ring and it was mine.  Thankfully I had had my full name inscribed inside the band of my class ring!  The guy that found it was this little old man who had a one of those metal detectors and he spent his retirement days scanning beaches, parks, etc for change and what other treasures he could find.  I couldn't thank him enough!  He wouldn't take any kind of reward for finding it.

Just thought I'd share my class ring story.  I feel that class rings, class keys (Do they still do that?), and yearbooks are such an important part of the high school years, but that's just me.

Can't pick just one . . . sm
Dances with Wolves, original Rocky, Bladerunner, A River Runs Through It, The Way We Were and The Notebook are my faves
I can't pick just one either...

I like lighthearted stuff mostly - How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Lucky Seven, Wedding Date, Wedding Planner, Never Been Kissed.

But, also really liked Contact and U-571 and A Time to Kill (see the Matthew McConaughey pattern emerging?)  And Dead Poets Society is also one of my favorites (I cry at the end every time - My Captain, my Captain!  )  Oh, and It's A Wonderful Life - I watch it every Christmas by myself because no one else will watch it with me.

Good question.

They always pick someone..... sm
I would immediately have a discussion with her about this and if she continues to be this way towards you and your daughter I would take it to the principal of the school. My son had a teacher last year that kept him after constantly and he was only in the second grade. I asked her to keep him in at recess instead of after school as I have someone picking him up daily who cannot wait on him and she did not so I took it over her head. There is not a teacher alive that is going to pick me or my child to be "the chosen one" for that year to pick on.
Thanks Dillybug! I will have to pick one up!
Anything to make the job easier as I hate to clean the tub!
my dog would try to help me pick strawberries,
eating them off the plant as i picked. But i saw a list in my vet's office about all the foods toxic to dogs/cats. It is generally best just not to feed people food to animals.
