hypoglycemia

I hope this may help, but I have been hypoglycemic for as long as I can remember, and I eat small portions at a time several times throughout the day to stave off the "shakes", a migraine, etc. I cannot imagine consuming a "large meal" at any given time. I have a very low animal fat diet, and I was told by my OB/GYN years ago to also keep in mind higher in protein and low in carbs. For those times of having a "sweet tooth", there are definitely healthier avenues out there lower in sugar. In fact, I can make a very healthy strawberry shake without so much as frozen yogurt. Basically strawberries (I buy them fresh, clean, and then freeze them), ice cubes, some Carnation (or other other brand) instant breakfast powder in strawberry or vanilla, keeping in mind lower sugar varieties, and low-fat milk. Most of my diet is made up of produce, and the summer brings with it more opportunities for "fresh" fruits and vegetables. If the child likes peanut butter, there are lower fat and low-cholesterol varieties out there with, of course, a lower content of sugar.

One caveat, however, is that low sugar (diabetic) varieties of some foods out there are more expensive. Some generic brands, however, offer something palatible with a lower price.

Again, I hope this helps. Good luck.
