Ladies, you need to have a talk with these men. They are really abusing these children by running them down, waking them up from sleep? What gives with this? A child needs a lot of sleep anyway, more so than we do and why a person would harp on a child much less wake up from sleep to harp some more borders on nothing but abuse. The guys you are with need a wakeup call. Why are you letting them get away with this? They should find healthier outlets than what they have now.

Youngest daughter once dated a guy and we discovered she was afraid to not be ready on time, to wear something he didn't like, etc. Soon we found out there were bruises on her upper arms and near her breasts. Needless to say, we marched her to the courthouse, got an ex parte. He broke into our house after that when he thought she was home alone, we pressed charges and had that young man paying court costs for quite some time in addition to going to anger management classes.
We were lucky, we got her out before it was too late. He had her emotionally beat down to the point she couldn't stand up on her own. Heaven help those without a support system.

Please tell her to stop! She must be able to find a vet somewhere that will treat the dog and let her make payments!
And yes dogs most certainly have seizures.

Worked for a vet, have a 16 year old dog on two aspirin a day. Works better than the expensive NSAID's. My dog had seizures also. Don't know why this has become so much more prominent lately but has. My dog is part chow/lab mix. She began with the seizures after being on prednisone -- I say that had something to do with it -- they do not. Very bad seizures. Age 6. Had her on medication - not phenobarb but something else that a dog neurologist said to put her on. She took it for almost a year - no seizures, slowly tapered her off of it and she did have little ones now and then -- 2 to 3 a year but over the past 7 years has not had one to my knowledge. She is 16 and quite healthy, except for being quite deaf, hip dysplasiad and arthritis and takes aspirin for it. I am sure her end is near but we still walk a mile a day and she chases her friend our cat every now and then. But her birthday is Valentine's Day -- was actually born on that day and she will be 16. Go on line and read about seizures. A neighbor has a chow that just had hsi first one -- age 4 to 5 also. So it is more common than one would expect. Good luck. Actually the visit to the dog neurologist was cheaper than my regular vet and he spent a lot of time with us. So it was well worth the money. Patti

Why oh why didn't they kill Ben
as soon as they saw him? They know that letting him talk ALWAYS ends badly. Killing him before he could set up another controlling scenario would have saved them a lot of grief.
How great that Ben's people have figured out Ben isn't such an infallible leader after all. I was really hoping the 3 were still alive when I heard the shots, even though I'd heard that a bunch of people were going to die. I was very proud of Hurley and Charlie. DH and I were joking that Charlie would write something about that parachute woman being BAD. Can't remember her name though.

got there to help you. Over the years, I did get my education and now am basically the bread winner. Got my "own" house so I didn't have to leave and haul the kids anymore, but now i can't get him to leave! I have nowhere to go that he wouldn't know where i was nor the money to go on.

rabbit or do anything to it. They will only trail it and let you know where it is and if you want to kill the rabbits you can do it but the dogs won't touch it. BUT my husband just does it for sport. He doesn't kill the rabbits either. He just gets a kick out of watching the dogs get all worked up trailing the rabbit and if you have never heard a beagle on a rabbit trail. They howl and sing like you would not believe. But I am happy to say the beagles won't kill. I told my husband do not kill any rabbits and bring them here. And he doesn't. It is just a hobby. No killing or mauling takes place. We are animal friendly. :)

someone else, in our state anyway, they can take him and have him committed, ESPECIALLY since he told you he would use a gun to do it. That is called suicidal and homicidal ideation.

Children having children not a new thing, where do you live?
My son, who is now in his early 40s, told me years ago when in high school about all the teenage mothers that were at his school and said they brought the babies to school, and he seemed to think it was like the girls having playdolls like when you were little. This is not new and apparently folks think alright to have their children sans marriage, be it preteens, teens or adults. I guess my years alone do not make me shocked at anything anymore. Others talk about this job being isolated and your post says some of this if you were shocked at what the son said.

Outcome is debatable. I do always think if all abused wives murdered their husbands and I imagine many deserve it, the streets would be littered with dead husbands.

It infuriates me. Why don't these people just jump off a bridge instead of killing innocent people? He didn't even have the guts to face the consequences of his actions. So cowardly. I will be praying for the victims and their friends and family. I would bet money that the NRA will be having one of their rallies in Omaha in no time - they're always so sensitive about these things  I can't believe the murder rate in this country. It's sickening.
Now being a transcriptionist, we cannot kill our hands but
what works really well are switches. The kids are not abused, beaten, bruised but they sure do not like those. My ex told me you can make a mule mind with switches. I am amused when I read about the wonders of motherhood and then on here mothers posting about their troubles. To me it seems simple- to others it seems barbaric. I think you do not have to beat a child but you cannot let 1 get and keep the upper hand. This is what is happening now.

My sister's first dog was an AKC standard American Eskimo she got from a no-kill shelter. He was supposed to be a show dog, but wasn't *perfect*, so his original owner considered him a worthless mouth to feed and left him at the shelter. For my sister's family, he was a beautiful and loving pet for many years. You will pay for the necessary shots and probably to have your pet *fixed* as well as perhaps a bit of a mark-up to support the shelter, but you will have a healthy pet, and you will get the one you see.
My sister's current dog is an AKC Pomeranian she got from a Pomeranian rescue organization. Again, she got a beautiful and loving dog. His original owner had decided that he was just too much trouble. If I remember correctly, the rescue service had pictures of available pets on their Internet website. Again, there was a good-sized fee to cover having him checked out by a vet and *fixed* with again probably a bit of a mark-up to support the organization. She had to drive a ways downstate to get him - they would not just ship him.
My sister considered the fees reasonable. As she says, it's a reminder that this is a living creature whose life has value, not a toy to be played with for awhile and then discarded. I hope you will be as fortunate as my sister has been in whatever way you find your pet.
things that kill birds and their care
You have to be careful what is in the candles. I don't burn them with birds around. Self-cleaning ovens will also immediately kill birds, as will a Teflon-coated pan that overheats. Also be careful with home permanent solutions, room deodorizers, and DO NOT USE FEBREZE (yes, I am shouting because so many people use this and it is a KILLER for birds). Just be careful with any of these types of things. Birds are ultra sensative to inhalants. Better not to use them at all.
Regarding the eggs, if you remove them she will just lay more before she's had a proper rest and that will deplete her of calcium. While she's sitting on her eggs, her body is rebuiding for the next clutch. Try to find things that resemble the eggs in size and color, like marbles, beads, etc. Put them in place of the eggs. Don't let her see you doing this. Warm them in your hands first (NOT HOT) and sneak them in one at a time when she's not looking. She should sit on them and you can pitch the eggs. But let her sit until SHE abandons them so that she maintains proper calcium.
Also, if the eggs aren't fertile, there is no problem in letting her sit on them. Take them out and hold them up to a light, like a light bulb or a flashlight, and look into the egg. If you see red lines or a solid dark mass, you've got babies. If you see just space and yolk, you've got a dud. She can sit on duds and get her rest and you won't have to worry about babies. Not all eggs are duds, though. You have to look at each one. Date them lightly in PENCIL and then you can tell when you last looked and keep checking until you're sure they are duds.
Keep plenty of cuttlebone around for her calcium and sprinkle baby bird handfeeding formula on her food to give her extra supplements for the egg laying whether duds or not. It's good for her. Even if you don't want babies, her body needs to be replenished with this stuff to keep her healthy. This is a good treat anytime for a bird.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with babies before. Many times the youngest die in the next because the larger ones get on top of them and they don't get the food. Finches are tricky. I'm crazy about them but they do need careful watching. Parrots are SO much easier to raise!!! Guess you don't want to suggest that to your kids, though LOL!!!

and again when my son had to read it this past year. I just finished Can't Wait to Get to Heaven by Fannie Flag. She has the quirkiest characters. It is impossible not to laugh out loud while reading all her books.

I'd say yes they really did abuse
the 'emergency' but rather than contacting an attorney I would just try to recall where you might have given her contact information - call them and change ASAP and I would not even fill in that spot in the future citing your experience in these two situations and the problems it caused and if they fuss - give them a phoney name and addy and let it go. I think it is there for your safety really, secondly for them to collect should you not pay a bill - I have only been called once in my 55 years as my son got behind on his credit union car payment and they traced me down through 3 counties - so think you definitely had an unusual experience.

Call your local shelter and they will advise you on ways to leave safely. NEVER take abuse - physically, verbally, or mentally from anyone. Forget the church kid, learn to love yourself, and lead by example for your children. If you act like a doormat, do not be suprised when you get stepped on!
You need a long time on your own before you are ready to think about entering another relationship. You are not out of your present relationship yet, but you can be if that is your decision. Best wishes to you.

I think it is abuse.
Take the poor doggy into your house. Your cat may hide, but my guess is the dog will ignore the cat. I got my Sheltie when I had 2 cats and they all got along just fine. Please don't leave this poor thing outside, especially if it hot in your area. If you cannot bring it in, call the authorities. It is kinder than leaving her out to suffer.

This IS animal abuse. Thankfully, in most states animal cruelty is becoming a felony. In my state (NY) it can be punishable up to $5000. Animal abandonment is also a felony with one year in jail and up to $1000 fine. Failure to provide proper nutrients is another law that seems to have been broken.
Our animals needs protection from the elements, proper food and water (and not just a bowl to catch rain water,either) They also need love and companionship, and by this I mean not regulated to the backyard to vegetate.
Animals can think....how do explain service dogs, search and rescue, and guide dogs? Have you ever seen a dog given a task to do and watch him/her go through the paces to get it done?
As I stated before, contact an area dog club to see if they have members willing to help, or if they know of a Sheltie rescue who can help. Contact your area vets for such phone numbers. Or, you can contact me and I'll see if I can locate a Sheltie rescue that can help.

Your post makes me very sad. Your husband is abusive. Husbands and boyfriends come and go in our lives; however, family is ALWAYS family. Please seek counseling for yourself. You cannot change him. After you become stronger through counseling, you will see the situation clearly for what it is - abusive.
Call your sister and invite her for a visit. Better yet, get a plane ticket and go see her. Don't ask, just do it.

Every county has a program for abused woman and children. You do not have to be physically abused for them to help you. Find out the name of the program near you, Domestic violence, Reach, etc. You can call them and they will allow you to take your children and live in a house, the whereabouts is not known to anyone on the outside. It is free and they are very caring. You can start there and they will help see that you and your children are safe away from this maniac. Good luck.
There's always abuse
of the system. Making it illegal doesn't stop that. There are a lot of drugs out there that are, in my opinion, worse than marijuana as far as addictive qualities and doctor's prescribe those drugs routinely and easily for things such as back pain which is not life threatening but can be debilitating. I think it would be much easier to hold standards to legal medical use marijuana than it would to criminalize alcohol and the numerous other prescription drugs that are out there and abused.

Child abuse
That's your opinion - and pedofilia - obviously you did not BF or have a good bond with your children. Do you also consider it child abuse that I did not use disposable diapers? What about the fact that I worked as a wet nurse? Some things are just natural - You should read the book, The Family Bed - BF may be looked upon differently in the US - but that is only cultural - and I do not bend to cultural issues - I did as I pleased - and no one else cared or ever even discouraged me from BF my son as long as I did. Unless you've been there - you do not understand - sorry for you.
It is not abuse, but it is neglect
If you cannot take the dog in, I would definitely call the authorities. It is completely unfair and wrong for the dog to be left alone outside for that long with no shelter and no place to go. Who knows, maybe your cat and they dog will get along. I have 3 cats and a 128-pound German shepherd, and they call get along just fine together! But, if you cannot do this, just call the authorities for help/advice. I'm sure the dog would want you to do this so that it can get out of this situation!
Abuse causing this?
I had a son (I hear boys are worse than girls) who wet the bed until probably early teens. My aunt was a nurse, said NOT to belittle, get after, etc., etc. He definitely was NOT abused. Think children just do sometimes. I was told he would grow out of it and he did.
Sibling abuse
I picked up my 6-YO grandson today to bring him to my house for the weekend. When I got there I could tell he'd been crying and had a puffy bottom lip. He showed me where he had a missing tooth and said his 8 1/2-YO half brother (not my grandson) knocked it out. His mom sits on the couch and says nothing to dispute it, so I'm sure it's true. This brother is also his babysitter after school until mom and step-dad get home.
Not too long ago DHS was involved and step-dad was charged with abusing my grandson. Of course they always try counseling first before thinking about removing a child from the home.
I constantly worry about the environment he is in as I've seen the way older brother treats him, but never anything quite like this. At what point is it considered sibling abuse as opposed to normal fighting that brothers might do. Is this something I should report to DHS?
p.s. His mom is just beginning to speak to me again. She blames me for the last DHS thing even though I wasn't the one who reported it (only because I didn't know about it). Once I heard about it, I did go make a report about neglect that I'd observed. Then they were conveniently busy for the next 5 weekends so I couldn't see my grandson. It's a long story, but there is nothing in writing about visitation. I have pretty much had visitation with him every other weekend for the last six years.

They're home alone 2 to 3 hours before parents get home. Parents are trying to save money, which is the only important thing to them. I agree entirely that he is too young.
The thing is, parents were home today when this happened. They were probably just getting up. They do not get out of bed before 10 on the weekend, even though kids are up at 6 or 7. I pick my grandson up at 10, and he has not had breakfast yet. This is the norm.
