Good golly,

I was raised Catholic - now consider myself religious and live my religion - not sitting next to the folks that have lots of money but not living their religion - if ya know what I mean.  Kinda couldn't and probably never will wrap my head around the molestation by the priests.

Anyhoo, on the dress thing, my sister is very Catholic yet and her husband joined the Catholic church when their oldest son was born, and they are all staunch Catholics.  My niece (this sister's daugther) got married 4 years ago and had a beautiful wedding dress with spaghetti straps for her very Catholic wedding here in the conservative ole Midwest.  Not understanding any of this wedding dress thing or the whole wedding issues being required by this priest.  Things should be cut and dry doctrine but I think change from priest to priest though.

Case in point, my husband had been married at a JP fresh out of the Marines, then divorced and we got married in the Catholic church - BUT the first priest we met with asked for $500 to annul his first marriage.  A different priest we sought out didn't bring up such nonsense at all and just sent the paperwork.

golly, maybe we should hang her by her thumbs (sm)
OP said the child didn't get much sleep because of problems with her younger sibling.

It is quite possible the child is having some jealousy issues or other issues causing her to act out. Not to mention not having a good night sleep. I know my concentration is a little off if I haven't slept well. Probably a little harder for a 5-year-old.

I don't think it is prudent to jump to punish a child when it is out of character for that child to misbehave, especially if the child had already received punishment.

Yes, it will humble her. It could also demean her. I'm definitely no expert, except by experience. When this child has future emotional issues that she is not quite sure how to deal with, she defintely will be too humble to act out or to try to talk to her mom about them, because she has been taught not to. She'll just keep them locked inside or act out in a way she won't get caught.

A 5-year-old is not to young to be asked why she acted the way she did, or to discuss it. Why do parents have a knee-jerk response to just impose some kind of punishment without trying to understand first?

I'm not saying an apology is wrong, I just don't think it should be yet another punishment. If anything, mom should discuss it with her, like... "honey, I really think you owe your teacher an apology. What do you think?" Let it be the child's decision. It's good training to let a child make decisions like this.

The teacher punished the child. That's her job. It is our job as parents to try to understand our kids and open lines of communication and let them get used to making decisions.

This town has been through so much. The same storm that hit the town of Enterprise sm

the high school where 15+ kids died when a tornado hit their school, destroyed this hospital in Americus, GA.  The town was devastated. Please see this local news link to help them win an MRI machine. Thanks everyone!!

The Enquirer has been in publication since 1926, my golly lady!
Do you think your parents, grandparents, your older relatives were among the group being "dumbed down" as you stated? I enjoy those magazines, papers (nothing else you listed above) but for me I love reading- subscribe to many different publications including Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Southern Living, Consumer Reports, etc. I see no harm at all in reading, in fact does more good than harm- you might learn something if you do.
Haha...exactly. :O) NM

haha

I laughed so hard when i seen you say "googly eyes" lol.

I always find it hard to watch people that think they're so darn sexy and it's like you have got to be kidding me!

I think the girl that was a backup singer is really good but without being mean it's hard to watch her too because she has no neck!

haha!

No, I wish! haha...
Just a lady who comes and cleans once every 2 weeks.
haha -
Does he not give you access to the $?
I would just go and get new tires. That is very dangerous. If you have to set up your own checking account and get your money dd in there or buy your own PO Box.
Apart from the tire issue you need access to $ if you don't have it now.

HAHA
i liked that so much i posted it on my personal blog
HAHA!!! you got that right...

haha!!
Im not embarrassed to answer in my PJ's... but I DO feel like I have to take my bathrobe off (which is what i cozy up in over my PJs in the winter time)...
:)

Haha! I like that, maybe you should tell him!..nm
nm
yep, he's a boy, haha....
and he's starting to hike up that hind leg when he goes, BUT, in the apartment, he only goes when I don't take him out for hours, which was the case, for example, last 2 weeks I had the flu and sciatica pains hit at the same time, I was MISERABLE and could hardly bend over to get the leash on the poor little guy, and getting up...gah...and I was so wore out I would literally lose track of time, so I admit the few accidents he has had lately have been because I haven't taken him out.

I dont use piddle pads anymore. He made it easy for me to get rid of them, he started chewing up unused ones to play with for some reason, so I stopped using them. I only have 1 room in the whole apartment now that has anything to piddle on, newspaper, and that is in the utility room, which is the room he stays in if we are gone a lot during the day so he won't make a mess. He will scratch on the door to the utility room. The other times he goes is just accidents, unless there's a blanket on the floor, he will piddle on a blanket on the floor, or piles of laundry on the floor (like in my son's room), but otherwise he hasn't messed on anything. I do plan to get him neutered, but had to wait for the financing thanks to my crappy old job (which, btw, is why I had the name "goincrazyquick" haha, related to my last job). I've since found a new one and after 3 months of in-house training I'm back at home, so now I can get the puppy back on a schedule, myself on a schedule, and get the puppy scheduled for getting him neutered. :)

My cousin has 3 of her 4 dogs pomeranians, and one is a pom mix she got from a friend who found him. she has no problems in her home with 2 males and 2 females, but she said if he's not truly marking territory indoors, which he isn't because the accidents have only been here in the last 2 weeks where I was sick, or only if there is a blanket on the floor, otherwise no other accidents indoors for months, then he should be ok as far as not marking territory indoors. If the person who I got him from is correct on his age, then he turned 1 year beg. of January. Finally have the money to get him fixed, now just have to remember to get that appointment set! I started working midnights, haha, so my time is all out of whack.

I hope the OP is able to get her pup potty-trained too! :)
OMG! LMBO!! haha

what? get in your face? that's why i started with HAHA
i suppose this is the trouble with typing you can't hear my tone. I certainly was not "in your face" and i thought my last paragraph about you never know was not derogatory or rude or anything
im sorry if it came off that way, not intended.
Um, YES and YES?! Haha. Also some of those meds have been found sm

haha, do you think I could pick up the accent?
or is it instilled in childhood??

and i think i will be driving through there whenever i move back to Nevada!!
haha, my boyfriend was just telling me about this....
Less than 2,000, but the cost of living and such there compared to here, wonder how much it would be if they sold it around here? But, it has no air bags, uses "adhesive" instead of welded on parts, I wonder how great and safe of a car that would really be?
haha, I agree with you on those points! sm
I can fall asleep with my music in my ears. Only issue I would have is if they talk loud enough to be over the music, or if a movie is playing during the long flights and you can't hear the movie because they are talking so loud, otherwise I don't see it being a big deal. What I don't get, though, is they always made it sound like it interferes with the radio controls or something to have wireless laptops on or cell phones. Guess that was just another story they tell to get you to do what they want, lol.
haha, re-read what I typed....
and I realized the part to the OP, the first sentence didn't make sense, I didn't back up far enough, haha. I'm tired, shhhh, lol. I meant to delete the part "I think if you have a health reason" and just start with "I don't think you can..." Hope that makes more sense.

On that note, I'm going to sleep, haha.
HAHA! LOL! OMG! This is hysterical. I laughed at both, but yours made me cry. nm

Who is Lee, and is he/she REALLY "perfect"?

Inquiring minds want to know.
Has anyone here trained (haha!) a cat to stay in backyard?

This is a long shot, but here goes:  I adopted a 1-year-old cat from the pound 6 months ago.  The original plan was to keep him indoors but a couple of times he got outside; however, he stayed in the backyard.  Unfortunately, he trained me to let him out for a couple hours a day and started wandering beyond the yard.  For right now, he is indoors only but it is pitiful watching him stare out the windows and meowing.  My last cat trained himself to stay in the backyard and never wandered.  Does anyone know of any tricks to teach this new guy?

Please do not criticize me for letting him out. I am well aware of all the dangers but I do not live near traffic or dogs other than my own, and he is only out for a short time, comes in when I tap on his food dish.  He obviously does not use the neighbors' yard as a toilet--a well-used litter box is a testament to that.

Thanks for any ideas.

a baby man....lol....haha!!! another good point! sm
my self esteem is really pretty good. Just that my heart is sometimes bigger than my head
Haha! I'd have gone out one night and spray-painted
a great big ol' laughing yellow SMILEY-FACE on the pavement at the crash site!
HAHA... YEAH... I can just see our county jails filling up with (sm)
scores of pregnant women who (gasp!) CLOSED THEIR EYES during the *mandatory* video-viewing.

I would like to add, my parents (both closet hermits) haha - traveled the US sm
for a year trying to find their retirement home. My mom is originally from MA and my dad from VT. For some reason or another they did not want to move the NE. No desire at all! I personally would have loved it if they decided on the NE so I could visit more often.

In any event, Alaska was their choice, hands down, because of the privacy (from other family members), plus it affords them with all the wilderness they can handle. My dad has already caught his first black bear (it took him weeks) and he just loves it.
Okay, I'm done rambling about AK. Good luck in whatever you decide!
Haha! Hubby-Prozac sounds like a plan! - nm

What to do when you are going to be out of town

of someone whose mother and grandmother are past coworkers?

We live in a small community and they live also in my neighborhood.  This young girl was only 20 years old.  She has been sick off and on all her life with kidney problems and even had a transplant a few years ago.  Her father had given his kidney and then he passed away from an accident a couple of years after that.  So tragic for this family and their losses.

What could I do for this family.  My mother is going to visitation and will pass on why I couldnt be there.

What do you say to someone who has lost a child.  I cannot find the words.

Are you in my old town?
I am jealous. As soon as we can we are going back. I miss people who really care and are genuine. We live in a "transient" town, growing continuously, construction everywhere, drugs, alcohol, plastic people, and Stepford Wives are everywhere. Gambling is legal here and all that goes with it are all around you all the time including those who live for it to the detriment of themselves and their families. We went to the DMV yesterday, could not get in, could not even park there after an hour of cruising around looking for a spot. It appeared that only one other person was an American that we saw the whole time. Most were illegal aliens. We have lots of casinos, construction companies, hotels, and lawn services who apparently are unable to properly "screen" them and isn't it great that they have all that cheap labor? Can't go to the DMV tomorrow, it is closed for Vets Day. Can hardly wait to try again. Hope there is at least one other "grandma" there when I get there.

We have one nice neighbor next door on one side - normal, kind, helpful, sharing, caring with a darling little child. Our other neighbor on the other side is a nut-case (and I am being kind here). He speaks to no one. He has a girlfriend now, thank goodness. I say that because before she arrived he removed all lawns, all plants, and just let ugly weeds grown in his yard about knee high. He landscaped the front now and there are flowers on his porch. He still sprays Roundup over the totality of his back yard every season, which is huge, about an acre, so dirt blows over here constantly. For years he just drove off to work (he uses a remote and cruises out, closes the door, and disappears. Like the Burbs. When he leaves he wears a wig (seriously)that is in dire need of thinning and styling. When he comes home it is the same with furtive looks left and right to see if anyone notices him. He is drunk a lot. We know that because then he starts going outside and spies on the neighborhood and he is then without his wig. Whenever we have a family yard project he gets on the roof and watches us. Barbecues in our yard or swims in the pool are not private either if he has been drinking. He likes to "watch." He yells at kids who are unfortunate enough to trick or treat at his house or go there to sell tickets to car washes for the school, etc. Cusses and threatens, they tell us. Says he does not want any rotten kids in his yard. He hates all animals and has been approached by the sheriff for shooting cats and shooting at dogs of our good neighbor from across two fences (my husband was in the line of fire one of those times and the jerk almost got him). He wouldn't answer his door and hid like a woman when I became enraged and banged on his door after that incident.

I want to move so much that I can almost feel what it would be like to drive off from here. I thought the old creep would "move soon" so we have never relocated to get away from him. That is obviously not going to happen and it is 20 years later and here we all are. We have to go outside with all our animals constantly out of fear that he may harm them. I guess he got into serious trouble for is escpades because he now tries to keep his animal hatred down to simply trapping any living creature that comes into his yard and then he has the pound come and pick them up.

I would give a lot if I could live in a community filled with people like yours and the funny part is that when I had that I don't think I appreciated it, just took it for granted. Enjoy your Thanksgiving with them and never move to a place like this! I can't wait to get out of here! Save me a spot for when my husband finally retires. I want three horses, chickens, a couple of cows and a pig. I will bring my three dogs and sit on the porch and be thankful for the friendly feeling!
Sure thing - can't wait till next week (no life- haha)
nm
Yes, my town does have and I have thought
about this also. The deputy police this morning told me he has served them before and also when swearing out warrant told by a person in the court had others that this company did same to. If no money in the morning, will definitely see about the television stations. I know I can garnish if I could only find out where they bank.
But you know, with Ms Little Flit Around Town
this probably will be bad for her. Now you and I would not be able to tell the difference as we work from home and stay home a whole lot, but her?? How will she pose from home - will they bring the red carpet to her? Oh, I really feel sorry for that poor little rich girl.
As kind of the new kid in town....

and a very rural town at that, I introduced myself to all my neighbors in walking distance and let them know who I was, gave them my phone number if they ever needed anything, and let them know I was gonna be bringing in some stinky animals and told them I would be doing my best to ensure they wouldn't stink up their joints.  I couldn't believe how welcoming everyone was!  People were genuinely happy to have farm-y neighbors and admitted they were worried when they heard we were "from away," as they thought we'd be tearing down the little house we bought to put up a McMansion or something.  Neighbors even came by with carrots for the animals and asked if their kids could pat the horses and stuff.  One family even invites us to their home for Thanksgiving every year because they know we don't have any family nearby and really can't leave the animals for any length of time.  They give us hugs and welcome us into their home like we are their family.  I can't describe the feeling--it's just awesome.

Now, when we lived in a condo in the city--out of about 100 buildings we knew maybe 3 of our neighbors.  Imagine, packed in like sardines and we never talked to anyone.  Rush rush rush, keep your head low and don't make eye contact.  Darndest thing....of course hardly anyone spoke English as a first language there, but it was still weird to check your mail and have a bunch of people nearby and no one spoke--very icy.  I'm so glad I reverted to bumpkin-like livin'.
