good beach in Florida - Bahia Honda

At mile marker 36 (36 miles above Key West) in South Florida is a small place, also a state park, called Bahia Honda. The water is clear, the beach white and soft and you walk so far out into the water and you're still only perhaps knee deep....GREAT place for families and children!! Been living in Florida 30 years and I tell you, this is the BEST beach in South Florida. Cost is like $2 day or $3 day and you can camp or rent cabins there. It's pretty much under 7-Mile Bridge and near Marathon..

The beach in my hometown in Florida (sm)
I would buy a cheesy little beach cottage and paint it tacky colors and have lots of plants outside and open my own little herbal remedies shop! Haha! That's what I want to do when I'm old and retired!
Beach or mountains? Beach. Chinese or BBQ?

A Honda!
I have a little push behind gas-powered mower by Honda and it's super easy to start...no wrenching your back or dislocating your shoulder. It's very light and maneuverable and is even self-propelled. It cost a little more than other brands, but for someone who does her own yard work and needs stuff to work every time, it has been fantastic. The model I have can be switched between mulching or non-mulching too, which is kind of a nice feature too.
Man, I can't wait until it is time to cut the grass! It's still covered by a foot of hard crunch snow...blech!
Honda
I drive a 2001 Honda with 99,000 miles on it. I bought it used. The last time I had my breaks done, the mechanic told me this car was only at it's halfway point!! Sorry I know, it's foreign but what a dependable ride and great on gas. Next car will be a Honda as well.
Honda Honda Honda
I'm the original owner of a 1986 Honda Civic that STILL gets close to 40 mpg on the road, around 36 around town; has 286K miles & still runs perfectly first time, every time. I LOVE my car, & if Detroit had been smart enough & had the foresight to do something similar way back when, they wouldn't need a bailout now.
Maybe Honda has a convertible?
Your boyfriend is not far off the mark, though. Hondas generally are great cars and you get a good vehicle for your money. Factor in your insurance as well - if you get a convertible your rates will be much higher.
Hope you get one that you like.
Personally, I have a 2003 Nissan Altima that I love.
my boyfriend (who is buying the car) wants me to get a Honda - I want a convertible! nm

Hi From Florida
Hi All,
I live in South Florida and I am new to MT Stars. Anybody else from Florida?
At least in Florida
Arrest records are public record. I can go on my county's website and find out if someone has been arrested and what they've been arrested for.
Yep.Florida had one, wonder if we still have it..
When I moved here 14 years ago it was over 500 bucks per car. We did not know that, my husband was just out of law school. It was another way of saying, Yankee go home. I don't know if I dreamed it or not but I think this may have been changed. Not sure. People who still have it should have a redo of the Boston Tea Party only with car plates. LOL.
in Florida also....no problems with
I have heard of HARTZ causing many problems in animals but not Frontline or Advantage. You could probably Google this issue to see what they are saying *out there* about these products but personally, myself, and my daughter (who has 3 dogs and 2 cats) have had no problems with these 2 products. Best of luck to you!

Florida vacation
There are several things to consider when planning your vacation to the theme parks: If you stay in Kissimmee you'll have to drive to the parks. There has been a lot of road construction on southwest side or Orlando. I don't know if it's completed or not. The hotels associated with the parks have a lot of extras for the kids so you can relax while they watch movies in the pool, ect. The rooms are often suites with murals and fun beds for the kids. There are some that are close to the parks, with shuttles, that might be a bit more affordable than the big ones on the parks. While you certainly have to go to the Magic Kingdom, especially for the younger kids, if you love the big rides Universal's Islands of Adventure is a must too. Our kids are into the bigger thrill rides so they prefer Universal. There's also a nice area for the younger kids at Islands of Adventure that has a Dr Suess theme. October will still be hot down here, but if you want to take a day trip over to the beach it's best to come before December. December temperatures are typically fall-like, but it can get down into the 40s on occasion.
hi there - I'm in south florida....sm
and due to the multi-multi ethnic groups here - MULTITUDES of different groups - we have it all in the supermarkets....
You never had chopped liver? Never eaten chicken livers and onions together just fried up? Never had chicken livers wrapped in bacon and then cooked? Ramaki's I think they are called (can't remember)....
The Argentinians I just read eat twice as much beef as Americans....not a good thing...*lol*
Hmm, what does Florida not allowing have to do with ?

Hey!
My dad used to take me to a campground that was right on the beach. Of course as I go to write this the name of the place has slipped my mind, I'll have to find out and get back to you. But it wasn't that expensive at all (definitely cheaper than a hotel room or condo) and it was so much fun! There is a park right there and a dock to go fishing on and at night you can catch ghost crabs on the shore!
Hope this is helpful! When I find the name of the place I'll let you know!
I'm in Florida and spend about $175/wk for 5 sm
I'm in Florida, and it is me, my husband, our 2 kids (son 7 and daughter 11), and my father-in-law, and I swear my FIL, who is 5Ǝ" and 158 lbs, eats more than my husband, who is 6Ɖ" and 345 lbs. FIL had to have a feeding tube put in last July, and I had to cut down meals by half because we were having so many leftovers and wasting money. Just when I thought I had it figured out, he was able to get the tube removed, so I'm back to making meals for an army. I just wish I had his metabolism as he just does not seem to gain weight and even had to go on high-calorie Ensure when he had the feeding tube to gain weight. I shudder to think of what my grocery bill will be when my son hits puberty I don't buy stuff for lunches here at home as we (FIL and I) will just eat a sandwich or leftovers from the fridge
As far as special foods, we don't really buy anything out of the ordinary. I buy frozen vegetables instead of canned unless it is for a recipe, and for a while we were buying meat at a butcher shop but have had to cut that out for now. It was really good but was close to DH's work, and if he couldn't pick it up while he was in the area, it was a 45-minute drive. I cook most things from scratch, except lasagna because I hate making it. Once a month, we have a luncheon at church that I bring a dish and a dessert, and I cook Wednesday night dinner there one night per month, but I get reimbursed for the Wednesday night dinner. I do include paper products and toiletries in with my grocery budget but that's it, and I usually go to Sam's once a month for those.
I have it easy compared to my parents though. My dad got paid once a month, and there were 4 kids at home all the time, 5 when my sister came up during the summer. They used to have 3 grocery carts slap full of food, and my mom figured out that it took something like 18 boxes of cereal to last a month, each one with a date marked on it so we didn't go through them too quickly. And to keep my brother from using a mixing bowl and a serving spoon to eat cereal We also had a freezer to keep extra bread and other things, and my mom also used to mix in powdered milk when the gallon was half-way gone. I never knew until I was grown, so she definitely blended it well.

Beach
Just keep a sharp eye on the children in the ocean with the boogie boards. The ocean current is strong. I found this out when we went to Myrtle Beach and my 10-year-old was on an inflatable raft. The current carried her rather far. It was a good thing my husband could swim. It happened so quickly but everything turned out all right.
beach - sm
Take the kids to Assateague Island, only a short way from Ocean City. There is a beach for day use and they might see the wild ponies keeping cool by the ocean. Just spent last week there.
On the beach...
in the cold wind. lol Poor planning for the time of year but I have beautiful pictures at sunset. :)

Florida or California beaches
Which ones clearer? Florida as clear as ones in like Jamaica/MExico? What beaches are best for family vacation?
Florida vacation spots
My favorite spot is Santa Rosa Island just on the other side of Pensacola, FL. Although was run out twice due to hurricanes (10 years apart exactly) but was on the last night of vacation. I can also recommend the Iberostar resorts in Mexico - Carmen Del Playa and Cozumel for family - Cancun is more for the young adults/adults. It was actually less to go to Mexico than Florida with an all-inclusive package.

Girls in Florida fighting
Did anyone see that sickening video of those teen girls beating up another girl while two boys stood guard outside the house? I think they should be tried as adults including the boys (not sure how old they are anyway).
Do you know where in Florida this is? Is it St. Johns River? sm
my mom lives in Florida and if it is in the right location, she would love that!
Anyone watching the story out of Florida sm
about the little girl (Caylee) that's been missing for five weeks and her mom (Caycee) is in jail? i'm watching the court stuff that's going on. they are going to decide if she should get bail or not. i've seen some interviews with Caycee's mom (Cindy) on the news, and she is a witch. Cindy is on the stand right now and i just think the whole thing seems suspicious. Cindy claims that Caycee has had this babysitter for three years and used to take Caylee to her and the mom has never once met the babysitter? i think that sounds weird.
anyway, it's interesting and I sure hope the little girl is still alive.
I'm from Amelia Island, Florida (sm)
If camping is not your thing, you can look up vacation rentals in the area and get great deals on condos and/or hotels during that time. It is located just past the FL/GA line so very North Florida, about 1/2 an hour before Jacksonville. It is a small island, one of Florida's oldest cities, and an old pirate town. The streets are lit up at night downtown with lights in the trees and many of the streets are brick. (Can you tell I love it?) If you are looking for a beach area with more entertainment, such as Ripley's museums, etc., a similar but somewhat busier beach town is St. Augustine, FL. I will try to find the Website I usually use when looking for rentals and post that later in case you are interested. You can get some really good deals this time of year.

South Beach here.
I started South Beach just today since the New Year fell in the middle of the week. My husband and I have done it before and it really works pretty much effortlessly. I am working two jobs from 8:00 - 1:30 (Real Estate) and my transcription job from 2:00 - 10:30, so this seems to be the only way to lose weight for me given the fact that I have no free time or energy to exercise. We did it before last spring and the weight loss is quick and pretty painless once you get over the initial carb withdrawal. I would love some support and could offer some as well. You can e-mail me directly at mandie573@yahoo.com. Thanks and good luck.
Definitely Navarre Beach, FL
The most gorgeous, and well-kept secret in FL. It is in the pan handle, about 35 miles W of Destin, and about 25 miles E of Pensacola Beach. All of these beaches are beautiful, white sands. Navarre is less traveled, and less busy. My husband and I went with my sis and fam last year, which is where he proposed to me, then this year on 07/07/07 we were married beachside. It is wonderful. I just keyed in Navarre Beach search, and many offers for condos came up. We stayed at the Inn at Summer Wind, a wonderful high-rise condo equipped with everything, If laying around on the beach and/or having coffee on your balcony overlooking the water is your cup o tea, this is the place for you! It is very relaxing. Then, you can cross the bridge back to mainland (Navarre is a small island), and go to the new Superwalmart, to specialty shops, or on down the road either way to frequent other beaches/restaurants, and there is an outlet mall down near Destin that was cool. Just an awesome place to to. We went in June in 06 and July 07, and the water and weather were perfect. In fact, 07/07/07 was the most pretty day down there this year!!! Good luck deciding, but in my exp. It was well worth it. July is the on-season, and we paid around $1300 for 6 nights in the condo, that slept 6 (king BR, bunk beds made in the wall (hubbies bed if he don't behave) and couch is a pullout. I think starting in mid Aug. or so it is about 1/2 that. I have to go in the summer, though, because of the kids and teacher hubby. Good luck again!!
Does anyone know about Myrtle Beach, SC? SM
I don't mean for a vacation; I mean as far as living there. Any information will be most appreciated.
Thank you.
Pebble Beach
Is in Monterey, California.
Myrtle Beach
I would love to live there. . Good luck to you. . I think you are very brave. .
it's about 2 miles from the beach
here on the West Coast of Michigan in Muskegon. Bought the house from a man who was a nut and who had bought it in foreclosure for 17K. Huge yard, 100 x 100 feet, all fenced. Two bedrooms, one bath, just over 800 square feet (pretty small). All new siding, all new triple-pane windows, new furnace, new fridge, new hot water heater, new stove (found the receipt, $1700 for the set), and a totally re-done kitchen. It's in the inner city, I call it my "little house in the hood." Taxes are about $900 a year. The only repairs we needed to make were to the plumbing, of which there was none, and I mean none. So, my nephew and I spent just over $200 and learned how to plumb -- all connected and flowing, PVC is my new best friend.
There's tons of houses even cheaper than this here, just not the best neighborhoods, but you can houses anywhere from 2 to 5 to 20 grand as fixer-uppers. I take my child to school of choice out of district, cuz I wanted him to go to school where I went; it's only a 5-mile drive. Gotta love it, good enough for now.
Myrtle Beach
I have been to Myrtle Beach many times and I think it would be an awesome place to live. . Allyson is beautiful - she is lucky to have an aunt who is willing to consider making such a big change to be closer to her.
Thanks, Cranky Beach
Thanks very much for the information. I'm in Alabama. A co-worker has told me yes, you can apply for unemployment even if fired, but there's a penalty; this I don't really understand -- is it one-time or every month? Not sure. Since I had never done hospital work before, I'm in a training status, so the goals and deadlines were explained at the time of my hire. At the time, it didn't sound too hard to achieve, but these Indian doctors give me fits. (I can do the good 'ol boys all day. Heard that accent all my life! ) I have a few samples, and they help some, but not enough, apparently. Plus, I'm so nervous, I make dumb mistakes. Truth be told, I don't like it there and felt I had made a mistake accepting this job by the second month. The hospital platform is cumbersome and slow and the people aren't exactly friendly, either. I know a lot of this is my fault--I just don't fit in and don't ask questions when I should, rather just slog through and try to figure problems out myself.
car insurance quadruples for teens in florida
it's not *spoiling kids* what with Florida rates, that's a given.......quadruples for kids 25 and under.......check it out yourself....it's not spoiling. I also moved out at 18 and did it all myself but I didn't drive until I was 26 or 28 so car insurance was never an issue back in the days for me. Today, it's a different world and car insurance definitely depends on WHERE YOU LIVE.
If you live in very small-town America I suppose what you said is very correct......
I'm in Florida 30 years and those beautiful beaches
There are plenty of beaches in S. Florida where they have found over the many years MEDICAL WASTE DUMPING. So, no I don't agree that Florida's beaches are all beautiful..........maybe northeast and northwest in the state but certainly not in south florida......
just my take is all........
Jupiter, Florida - one mile to ocean!
