followup on machine to remove cig smoke

First, thanks again to those who tried to be helpful/supportive.  Secondly, i may (!)have made a breakthrough this morning, Praise God!!  Sparing the details, after another fit of mine over trying to eat in a 'cloud', i put it to him this way:  Saying, "i've been looking into air cleaners to remove the smoke smell from the house, and they will cost from $700 to $1000.  So which is it going to be -- will you quit smoking, smoke outside the house or do we invest in these expensive air cleaners?  I just can't tolerate it like i used to."

I let him ponder awhile and asked again for the answer.  I about fell off my feet when he said he'd try harder to quit smoking and that he might start smoking outside the house, and might even consider a prescription to help...Good Golly Miss Molly!!

Wonders truly never cease!!

machine to remove cigarette smoke?
my husband's smoking is almost intolerable to me anymore.  He won't smoke outside for me.  Does anyone know first-hand of a machine that effectively gets all or most of the smoke/smell out of the room being smoked in? thanks.
Is there a way to remove cigarette smoke - sm

from something without washing it?  I have a baby blanket my mom crocheted that is for a friend of mine who's expecting.  Like everything in my mom's house, it has a bit of a cigarette smell, and I don't think a new mother would want to use a blanket that smells of cigarettes for a new baby!  So far I've just hung it up on a hanger in the hallway at my place.  (I don't smoke.)  Any ideas?  I thought about something like "Febreze", but that might not be good for a new baby to breathe, either.........

Followup to unfair practice and followup
This goes along with my first post. None of my references have ever told me they were contacted. That is just a waste of time and energy. I don't know why these companies lead you on. I would just love to find a stable company.
Followup
We have yet to receive our W2s or 1099s.
Followup on this post.....
Just ordered 1 tonight, got the thermal as I like for my coffee to be hot and here with the latest coffee maker my DH bought, not doing the trick. I can hardly wait...
Followup to getting sheets to fit
What would I do without all this wonderful information? I took the information about measuring the mattress. I measured the width and length. They were Cal Kings and I had been buying the regular king and kept getting popped during the night with those sheets pulling off. A relief is here! I got Cal King and lo and behold, I have slept for the past 2 nights in perfect bliss. No more pulling away from the corners. Thanks to all for the suggestions!
CJ had a followup appointment
He is doing decently well. Got up and voided for DH at 5:00 a.m., then got himself up as I was preparing the car to take him for his recheck. This time I remembered to put in the 9-inch thick orthopedic mattress. Can't believe I forgot that for his postop ride home! They got more air out and lapped up some special food they brought him that smelled like cat food. So I brought some of that home and his appetite did kick in - yay! He's also appreciating having the water and food bowls up on the feeding riser, so it's nice we have all this stuff already in place.

We are giving Sasha lots of loving too so she doesn't get too worried and depressed.
Followup on the situation....sm
my daughter took the cell phone bill to this kid Friday who basically just blew her off and said "well you never said you didn't have a text plan."

This other kid isn't someone she hangs out with - it's just someone that she's in drama with. My daughter doesn't even have her phone number to try to talk to her parents. I've told her that it's her responsibility to either get this child to contribute to the bill, find out how to get ahold of her parents and talk to them to see if they'll contribute, or just pay the bill. She's 16 and she knew when she got the cell phone that it was her responsibility to pay her portion of the bill. She knew when she got the phone that we didn't have a text plan and that if she ever did any text messaging what the fees were as well as what fees are for downloading things onto the phone.

My husband told her that we're not bailing her out because she has to learn responsibility and keep to her end of the agreement. She does have the option of doing extra chores around the house to earn the money she has to pay back if she chooses to do this.
Was Joe suspended? I would definitely followup
with the school about this. No child should ever be subjected to any kind of weapons, especially at this age. I remeber when my daughter was in the 4th grade (this has nothing to do with weapons) and I was substituting at the school, another 4th grader was telling others she might be pregnant. Who knows in this day and age. I talked to the principal about this and they called the girl's mother and of course the girl denied she ever said this. She was also stating who the boy was and he was also in the 4th grade. They decided not to say anything to his mother and I was very disappointed in this decision. If a girl were saying this about my son I would certainly want to know. You have every right to feel that you child(ren) are safe and if you have to ask questions then so be it.
Followup to a prior posting
A couple of weeks ago, I had posted about making the decision to testify in a court case about an abusive alcoholic who had hit me while we were on vacation. I don't know if anyone remembers the posting or not, but I really appreciated the warmth, support, and kindness of those who responded.

In any event, the trial was last week. When it became clear to my ex-SO that I was going to testify, he contacted his lawyer who contacted the DA about making a plea bargain. The DA still wanted me to come down in case there were any shenanigans (such as withdrawing the plea bargain if I didn't go down, and therefore the prosecutor losing their primary witness). For the most part, he got a slap on the wrist- 30 days suspended sentence, 2 years probation, 40 hours community service, and Hit No More and Substance Abuse Evaluation. When the DA asked me if I was okay with the plea bargain, the only thing I took exception with was a certain way the defense wanted the suspended sentence written. I don't know if it's specific to this state or not, but there is a 'Suspended Imposition of Sentence' and 'Suspended Execution of Sentence'. The ex-SO wanted the SIS because apparently if you get through your probation, the whole thing is wiped off your record like it never happened. The DA, after looking at his record, said the ex belonged in prison anyway and that the SIS is meant for people who make 1 bad judgment, not 30 years of them, so he had no problem with changing the SIS to the SES, which makes it permanent. The judge said for expediency and since the DA and victim (a title I had never aspired to, and hope to never have again) were not opposed, he was granting the plea bargain as outlined, but if he had his way, he would have given him 9 months...frankly, I wanted to stand up at that point and shout, "But you're the judge in here, you do have your way, lock him up!!!!" However, I held my tongue and let the whole sordid episode just come to an end. The arresting officers had shown up and I thanked them again for their kindness and compassion at the time, and headed back to my sanctuary home.

As a side note, making it through 2 years of parole may be a little tough for the ex, as he has been hammered every night since the trial. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that's probably a violation of his parole, although I could be mistaken about that. And I know he's been continuously drunk since he has called me every night at 3:00 a.m. to tell me how much he misses me, and then calls me at 1:00 in the afternoon to ask me to do some 'administrative assistant' type work for him...apparently he's not used to hearing the word no. Fortunately, he has no way of getting the 70 miles to my place, and I have now blocked his phones.

Hopefully, this is how the story ends, he will get bored with getting no response and move on to someone more suitable for him, like Tonya Harding or, even better, Lorena Bobbitt.
Followup - phone call with the principal....sm
I sent an e-mail to the principal this morning outlining my displeasure with the results of yesterday's meeting and CC'd our school board representative. Within a few minutes the principal was on the phone and asked me what I wanted them to do to educate our child. I told her that they're the educators, not me, and that they need to be the ones to figure out a reasonable game plan to get her caught up and educated during the school day. She then reiterated that they don't have the resources to work with her exclusively and won't unless she gets at least 6 months behind, at which point they'd then test her for potential learning disabilities and screen for special education consideration.

The school board representative sent me an e-mail that she'll be calling me tomorrow to discuss the situation. Hopefully by making the school board know that I'm not happy someone will intervene to educate her now and not wait 4 more months to give serious consideration.

Of note, my sister lives an hour away and her school district is completely different. Her son is ADD and is now a junior in high school. All throughout his elementary, middle and high school years there the teachers and schools have been great about working with her and him to keep him out of special education classes, and when needed at times they got parapros to work with him. I hear so many flip-flop stories about school systems and how some really work well with parents and meeting needs and others don't want to do what they're required to do until forced to do so.

We are hoping to be able to move out of our district hopefully next summer but that will depend on whether or not we can get our house sold. Rest assured that we won't move to a new area without my making sure that the schools my daughter will attend are willing to work with us to keep her out of special education and mainstreamed.
Followup on my daughter's curly hair~~Thank you

well, I went on ebay after i read the suggestion to try Cowboy Magic.  I bought the smallest bottle I could buy, cause I wanted to try it out.  And WOW!!!!  It works wonderfully!  Thank you so very much for the suggestion!  You have no idea how truly thankful I am, as well as my daughter.

You were also right about the smell!  I was a tad bit worried about that, but needlessly.  It is great!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I wonder if a little vinegar would remove
the smell because of its pH level? But then to get rid of the vinegar smell...HMMMM...Be safe and use the Arm and Hammer baking soda. =)
Love mine. Be sure to buy one where you can remove sm
the grates (sp). I have an older one and it is a pain to clean. I've ended up putting foil on the bottom and top to make it easier to clean.
How to remove car window tinting sm
I've got some ideas off the internet using alcohol, Joy dish soap, ammonia, and wall paper steamer. Anyone else have any ideas? Mine is on the inside glass on all windows.  It's 10 years old and really needs to be removed as it doesn't clean well anymore and smears so bad I can hardly see at night to drive. Any ideas out there?  TIA.
Sorry to remove some messages, but thread ran off then end

I don't smoke and so I don't need it, but
I work for a doc that often prescribes it and it seems to work for everyone that has tried it. Some seem to stop taking it too soon and go back to smoking, but he has had at least a 90% success rate with his patients. Good Luck!
If it were me, and I am exactly like you are regarding smoke -
I would show up when I believe the cake and singing might be happening with a big smile on my face and well wishes. Stay for a short time, as long as you can stand it. I do not think you should miss her special day. I feel for you with being exposed to smoke and can feel my eyes burning and hair stinking just thinking of it. However, your friend would want you there, at least for a short time. Good luck! :-)
Obviously some people didn't read *or get* the whole post about the followup phone call ;)

wrong board - they will remove these posts....sm
not supposed to discuss MT work at all on the GAB board.....post these at the Company Board....
They usually remove the thyroid for hyperthyroidism not hypothyroidism. SM
If you have hypothyroidism, then your thyroid is low producing or not producing at all which causes you not to be able to lose weight.  So removing your thyroid would basically be useless.
Better email this board and have them remove your resume

agree with the clean up, and remove programs not used. sm
research the computer site, like dell, etc. sometimes they have forums, questions and answer areas. sometimes they offer fixes if it was a company glitch.

but first get your ducks in a row by defragmenting and freeing up space.
is it possible to remove rubber cement from clothing?
Why, I don't know, but my 9-year-old's art teacher has these kids gluing a paper project they're working on with rubber cement.  So, needless to say, he shows up with a huge glob across his shirt (at least the size of a fist).  Is there any way to remove this?  Also, isn't this stuff toxic?  Should kids be working with it?  Should I call the school?  I'm at a loss.
Try WD-40. I've used it to remove lots of things.
If you go to the WD40 site, specifically the page "2000 Official Uses for WD-40" below and enter "rubber cement" it does indicate that it works.

second-hand smoke

With any luck the weather will be good and the party will be held outdoors....If not, take her out to  lunch or make a special lunch/dinner at your house just for the 2 of you....perhaps get your hair and nails done together or just piddle around in the consignment shops...do something that the 2 of you enjoy.  If you've known her since Jr. High or thereabouts, she knows how you feel about smoking and I don't think she would be offended.  The 1-on-1 time together would proabably the best present she gets....and you get to catch up everything without interruption.

I know, I did it yesterday...Made chicken and dumplings from scratch and sauteed squash and a light fruit salad, watched a video slide show that my friend made on a Mac laptop of renovation of the log cabin that her mother was born in (narration, music and all).....Her daugter's wedding is coming up in 3 weeks and the young lady wants it to be at the cabin.  Then we tried on mother-of-the-bride outfits she'd brought over, we critiqued, exchanged jewelry that would match.  We talked for about 3 hours non-stop and coulda gone on for another coupla days just reminiscing and trying to work out the kinks of the wedding and chowin' down on comfort food.

Just an idea....Hope this helps.

You have no idea how everyone around you who does not smoke SM
will appreciate what you are doing. Pretty soon you will be intolerant of it, too. You rock!  You can do this. It is the best decision you will make for your health and others!!!!    (CLAPPPING FOR YOU)
In all fairness now - do ya smoke?

I can't figure out why you posted that you are thin and have always been thin.  How is that supportive a person who would like to lose weight?  I'm guess I am missing something.

Where there is smoke, there is fire...

Someone said consider the source.  So let's consider the source...

You don't know her and she doesn't know you.  Why would she seek you out to lie to you?

Apparently your husband does know her and was going to warn you beforehand that she might try to stir up trouble.  Why would she pick your marriage to stir up trouble in?  What bone of contention does she have with your husband?  What is his relationship with her?

And if there is nothing to what she says as your husband suggests and that she is just trying to "stir up trouble" then why did he feel he needed to warn you?

Sounds to me like he's covering his bases.  Personally, I think you husband has a lot of explaining to do and this advice of "keep quiet and take notes" is bunk.  Don't be the victim.  Listen to what your gut is telling you.  Something smells in your situation and I bet it's coming from hubbie.

Trust me when I say, men can look their wives in the eye and lie without batting an eye and when caught in a lie, they will practically hurt themselves trying to rationalize and justify.  Whatever is going on with your husband, you cannot deny that there are rumors out there that your husband feels he needs to squelch.  That's troublesome by itself.  Why would someone make up rumors about him?

Don't excuse him, don't treat him with kid gloves.  Confront him and find the truth.  You'll know it when you hear it.

My husband and I both smoke!

This January we have decided will be it.  It is no longer socially acceptable.  My excuse has always been that I am afraid to gain a lot of weight.

My brother quit after 15 years (early 30s) and he used Chantix.  He was a 3-pack a day smoker.  Let me tell you, he is so much better.  No coughing.  After 6 years of trying to have a baby and failing in vitro; they have just had a baby this November.  They both smoked/him worse.  They are now both nonsmokers for over a year, have gained weight, but have such a blessing.  He swears it was the smoking that caused the infertility.  This pregnancy was the natural way and she's beautiful/such a blessing for them.  We are all elated.

I am especially proud of him and feel like such a wimp to continue to smoke knowing it is killing me.  It makes me feel inferior to others.  Thank God my brother is an encouraging soul and not one of those horrible ex-smokers who just won't let up or are worse than just plain nonsmokers.

To the OP:  These poster above is absolutely correct.  My brother will vouge that everything in life is better now that he is a nonsmoker (i'm assuming including the sex since they now have the baby).  He says the Chantix worked and he is by no means a pill-taker at all.

To the OP again:  If you'd like to quit when I do in January, e-mail me, and we can support one another.  You are worth it!  You can still smoke the first week on Chantix, but then the cravings will disappear.  Believe me, I also enjoy the cigarette especially after eating but smoke a lot more when I'm stressed to the point that I wheeze.  I'm only 38 and have 2 kids.  I hate the habit, but I love the cigarettes.  See what I mean?  It's a hard habit to break, but I think together we can do it!  Whaddya say?  E-mail me!

To the Poster Above:  Thank you for your kind comments as you've also just made me decide that quitting is the best and only option at this point.

I had an aunt that died of ovarian cancer and never smoked or drank a day in her life.  She was thin, always health conscious.  Not all cancers including lung come from smoking.  Keep that in mind as you strive to quit.

WAIT...one change. Remove "already". It's redundant.
Currently, there is a lack of adequate class time for the core classes such as math, language arts, and science. The addition of special classes such as music or art, however beneficial, should not take priority nor should they cut into core class time
Anyone know a good way to remove nail polish from carpet? - sm
My daughter spilled nail polish on the carpet in her room, so now I have a long line of pink nail polish on the carpet. Tried with nail polish remover, but not much help. Any ideas? Thanks.
Your choice is to walk through the smoke.

People are made to smoke outside the store, can't smoke inside.  Smoking is not against the law.  I think people with body odor/bad breath smell way worse than people smoking.

don't have a *choice* to walk through smoke--sm
if you want to get out of or into the store. If someone HAS to smoke...go to your own car where it does not infringe upon someone else's right to not have to breathe it in and contract lung cancer. Body odor and bad breath do not inflict death and are easily taken care of with personal hygiene. Second hand smoke is just plain inconsiderate of others' health, but then why would you care about that. right?
Juliet said that she knew about the smoke
monster after the fact and said that she didn't know what it was but that they were aware of it and that it didn't like the fence.  I really have to stay glued to the show or I miss little things - and apparently I still miss a lot.
all LV hotels that have casino have the smoke

even in Florida - the casinos you can smoke at - at least in certain areas like the bingo.........not the dealer tables at the Seminoles but at every other casino locally in S. Florida, there is smoking allowed.....Hard Rock Resort and Casino - smoking allowed.

In Las Vegas, if there are casinos in the hotel - you will be dealing with smoke.

However, there are plenty of smokeless, casino-less places......enjoy!

My mom used to smoke the "roll your owns"
If you buy your tobacco product in a can or bag you can put it in the freezer for a time and it will still be good - if you haven't opened it yet.

My DH puts his carton in the door of the freezer by the way because of the same reason.

I heard about the prices going up, but nothing has really been said about it here where I am. There are many smokers here in my part of the country. In fact, they only just passed the ban on not smoking in restaurants about a year ago here in town and are just now considering it for state wide.
I used to smoke and NEVER smoked inside the house. nm
No message.
Smoke 'sickers' through the AC, the cracks, up the pipes...
she can smell it in her apartment! It affects her also, second-hand smoke and it 'stinks!'

But:

This LL does not have a no-smoking policy.
Did you move in knowing this?
Then you cannot do anything.
You accepted the apartment 'as is.'

You can only hope that the smoking lady moves out or you move out.

Learned to smoke, drink, cut classes
Graduated in the 70s. Took dancing lessons and big big big into disco. Almost entered in the show Disco Fever. I was a little overweight, certainly not popular in the "cliques". Had friends from grammar school, scouts & 4H I hung around with (those are still my friends today). I was shy and stuttered when having to speak in front of groups (still do). I wasn't a "studier" - received mostly Cs (failed science, gym & history - or barely passed). No boyfriends. Pretty boring overall, but I'd trade everything in now and do it all again.
Mainly speaking tongue in cheek, but he could remove patient info and let me listen.
:P
Anyone know how to get cigarette smoke smell out of books? I bought several
reference books and they just stink.  Any ideas?
Time. That's all it takes. I took in a recliner full of smoke and a few years later sm
looks brand new and smells like my own home now. It was really bad with smoke. Same with books. It just takes time. It will eventually go away. Unfortunately, nothing I know works for that without ruining the books.
Just use the machine to
Make the dough. Then pull the dough out and put it in your own loaf pans to bake in the oven.

Or bake them in the bread machine pan and pull it out when its done and wrap it in xmas colored plastic wrap wiht a bow on top. It's the though that counts. Who cares if it looks like it came out of a bread machine.

I'm actually wishing now that I hadn't gotten rid of my machine. I felt it was just taking up space for how little I used it. This would have been a great use for it!
what machine do you have?
pp
We tried the sound machine...
and he didn't like that. I think he likes the air flow even if it's not directed at him. I hadn't ever thought about the cost that fan is running constantly.

I'm not clear about the white board (drywall?, white boards that you write on?) but certainly is a consideration. I could make that easily removeable and yes cover with fabric. Thanks for the ideas too.
Leg Magic Machine
I saw this new Leg Magic machine on TV.  Does anyone have one?  Does it work?  I could use some more tone in my legs and I hear it can be of benefit to your back as well.
Does anyone have a bread machine?

If so, would you recommend getting one and which brand is good?

Bread Machine
Hi - I love bread!  I have a Hitachi that is old and works great.  I am antsy to get a new one though and think I will get a Zojirushi - they are the best I know of.  I mostly use mine to mix dough and then I proof it outside the machine (I proof in my dehydrator, you just take out the shelves and set it on low and shortly thereafter all the rising is finished - I use a big dehydrator from Excalibur so a lot of bread can fit in there!  Yummy bread.  It also saves a lot of money because bread is now about 2.50 a loaf or more for good bread, but mine is better and is way cheaper!  I got one for my daughter and got her the one she wanted (a Panasonic), which is half the price of a Zo and she thinks works just as well.  Just get one with the bigger size insert so you can make big bread if you want (you can always make it smaller, just by using the small recipe size if you just mix in your machine and get one that has a setting for adding in add-ins (like raisins or nuts or whatever).  Those are the important things in bread.  Go to King Arthur Flour website and check out the bread!  It is the best place to buy ingredients that you might not find in your own town if you live in a small one.  Now I am hungry for bread from all this and think I will go put some Portugese Sweet Bread in there for later! Good luck with your bread!  Maybe we could quit transcribing and open a bakery!  That might be fun!
I have a breast machine also
Only thing is I told him I would not tell!! He, he.
Need to check RAM on machine,
how do I do this? Thanks.
