fireplace bricks

My late Mother built a new home with a huge fireplace. She was born and raised in KS, so had 2 bricks that had the outline of a sunflower stragecially placed. The bricks matched the color of the fireplace, and it was very special to her. I'm sure the current owners of the home don't know why it looks that way, if they've even noticed at all.

My husband, also an officer, did the same thing when the hospital I used to work for (& was outsourced) was being torn down. I have a sign from the place upstairs in my office.

Good story!

I'd tell him to hit the bricks sm
No way I would deal with that.  I'm 20 pounds overweight myself and told him (when he makes a comment, which is very rare and it's jokingly) that if he can find someone else who is skinny and hot, then go for it, and I would take everything, not just 50%. He was stunned and said "you really mean that, don't you' and I said "yep, I don't comment on your weight, you don't comment on mine." Love me, love my fat or get out.
bricks
Priceless gift, for sure...

I'm sentimental and a pack rat. I would tuck the bricks away after the kids decorate them and at each of their respective weddings, I would present them with their brick with your/their story of how they came to be. IMO it would be a wonderful wedding gift... but then I'm sentimental...
Need help with information regarding fireplace
Have moved to new home. I have gas heating and also gas operated fireplace. Have never had the fireplace on yet. My question to anyone this applies to, I was told recently if you use a blower, the artificial logs with your fireplace this can save a lot on your regular heating prices as it uses less gas this way than turning your entire home heating system on. Does anyone have any information regarding this? Thanks.
fireplace/gas stove
I have a gas stove that heats 95% of my house.  It is small 1000 sq feet house.  I have a fan on it, thermostat on the wall and it works just like a furnace.  I live on the water, floating home, and so am sometimes colder than land homes but this works for me.  I do have electric baseboard in my bedrooms but keep those at 55 and only higher if we have a week of under 32 weather and might freeze.  My gas bill never runs over 100 in the winter and I do not like to be cold and keep it at 65 during the day.   Been doing this for over 10 years now.  Used to have wood stove but it was too dirty and too far to bring wood down so went to this.  Love it.
Want to bling my fireplace

First of all know that I can't go too far over the top (I am bling galore but my sedate other half not) but I have a fireplace that I just consider too dark (stones) and kinda blah. I want to hear if any of you have ever used anything to make the fireplace stand out a little more. Any suggestions appreciated.

We have a propane ventless fireplace - sm
but no blower, but we do have vents in the ceiling above it for the purpose of drawing in the heat and using forced air to spread it throughout the house. It does not exactly heat the house to a cosy temp this way but when your furnace breaks (as ours did last week) it works in a pinch and in our case kept the house at about 60 (up from 57). I would assume that yes it uses less propane than the furnace does. But when we do use it, it actually sucks all the heat from the house to our living room (this is with our house fan off) and the bedrooms get cold. The living room/great room though is nice and toasty. You could always try it out, see how you like it, then try just using your regular heat/furnace and compare monthly bills, you will have your answer in black and white.
Well, it's gotten cold enough to burn the fireplace. I'm in northern AZ. How bout you?

Is fireplace on same floor you want to heat? The heat will rise up from a lower level unless you
