Hi Lisa,
I went through a similar experience when I was around 40 and it turned out I had fibroids. It is not the end of the world, but should should definitely have it checked out. I played the watching and waiting game for a couple of years because my hemoglobin had gotten so low due to the heavy bleeding and eventually had a hysterectomy. I feel a million percent better now, by the way. Lots of luck to ya!

Fibroids
Two of my friends in their 40s had the ablation done for fibroids and heavy periods. Both ended up having a hysterectomy later on, as the fibroids came back. My doctor did talk to me about the ablation last year, but because of what my two friends went through, I decided to cut to the chase and have a partial hysterectomy early next year (keeping my ovaries). Don't have the fibroids, but my periods are so unbelieveably heavy, it's just better I stay home that time of the month (I'm 45). My doctor put me on Provera to space out the periods, which does help some. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best, just be well-informed.
Time Of Month. :) Better get checked for fibroids/endometriosis. nm

Anyone out there suffering with fibroids?? I was just told by my gyno today that I need to have -sm
a hysterectomy because mine has grown double in size in the last three years (the size of a 14-15 week fetus). I am not crazy over surgery (because of the size it will have to be abdominal not vaginal). I have heavy bleeding and clotting but really no pain otherwise. I have been trying to lose weight because I read somewhere where that would help. I have lost not quite 20 pounds by walking everyday but I haven't noticed a difference yet. I just turned 40 a month ago. Anyone have any words of wisdom for me before I commit to a hysterectomy (he said he will leave my ovaries so I don't have to deal with menopause now) but I just don't want to be laid up for 6 weeks right now.
Thanks so much.
