sheets or liquid fabric softener?
do you find that one is better than the other with line drying?
fabric softener
I always miss that dumb rinse cycle!! Then I don't want to rerinse because that fills up the septic tank even more. I ended up using around 4 dryer sheets just because I like the smell so much. LOL.
bounce dryer sheets?
But, I don't know what it does to the paint...maybe someone else will chime in or maybe Google will have the answer :o)
Can you rub fabric softner sheets on it?

I do that with my animals actually to help them with the static in winter.  Or a spray bottle with water and some liquid fabric softner squirted over things.  Easier and cheaper than 'Static Guard' in a can.

Good luck and congrats on your new furniture!

Fabric softener makes towels softer, yes, but it also makes them less absorbent. sm
Which is, after all, the function of a towel, absorbency. :-)
I appreciate being able to bounce this off of you - thank you (sm)
I am not trying to say you are wrong, just so you know. It is good to have someone to bounce my thoughts off of. You know since we all work at home we don't have coworkers to vent to.
She sure does bounce around a lot.
I wished they would come up with new story lines.
Bounce 1 paycheck, and contract or no, I'm outta there.

Fabric softner - a health hazard??

I was sent an email by a friend concerning the hazards of fabric softner last night.  I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this?  The article he sent to me was from Allergy and Environmental Health Association (http://aeha.ca/help-with.htm)

He was also talking to an associate who has having many health issues.  He awoke one morning with a "texas-shaped" lump and redness on his neck.  He went to the doctor the next day and the doctor suggested that he go home and look at his pillow and call him back and tell him what he found.  There was a dry sheet in his pillow case - and you guessed it - in the shape of Texas.  His doctor told him that it was unbelievable the illnesses that are caused by fabric softener.

It seems like there are some many things you shouldn't eat, you shouldn't use, and the list goes on.  Sometimes I think we are doomed if we do and doomed if we don't.  I guess it is an issue of pick and choose.  Does anyone know an alternative for fabric softener?

By the way - If you don't want to look at this article for any other reason, look at it for the great list of alternatives for cleaning without using chemicals.  They have a great list and it is quite lengthy.  I printed it off just to have for a household reference!

Need to watch the patterning of the fabric when cutting it up,
s
I found a template at the fabric store - sm
It makes cutting a lot easier and faster. My husband is now addicted, LOL. We made one blanket Friday, another one Saturday, another one Sunday, and we have the material for one more.
Local fabric shop has a lady who gives classes. (sm)
She has been quilting for what she says is "100 years" and was an invaluable teacher. The hands-on experience on hand quilting was great. I don't think I could have picked it up from a book at all. Watching her rock the needle was just like a feathery quiver, gentle and efficient. I hope when I retire I can perfect this myself.
It was not just about the sheets

fitted sheets--sm
I understand what you mean. Measure not only the height of the mattress, but measure the length, as well. California King sets vary in the length, I believe.

I had run into a problem when I bought a queen-sized pillow top. Mine measures 21 inches in height. Try and find oversized fitted sheets for that, which do not cost almost $300! I finally found some at 22 inches and they stay on very well. Prior to that, I had to buy 20 inch sheets and use the elastic clips, which look like garters, across all four corners. Those helped too.
I have turned those sheets every which way
but loose, have about 3 sets and nothing has been working. I am making notes of all these answers and check the mattress out. It is huge and thick so have to get the measuring tape out.
Boy you pay a lot for sheets! - I have a king - sm
that is a 12" thick mattress and I have 3 sets of sheets for the bed, and I know I did not pay more than $40-$50 for my "deep" pocket sheets (I have 2 sets of those) at JC Penney's. Shop around you can still get good quality and not pay through the nose.
Followup to getting sheets to fit
What would I do without all this wonderful information? I took the information about measuring the mattress. I measured the width and length. They were Cal Kings and I had been buying the regular king and kept getting popped during the night with those sheets pulling off. A relief is here! I got Cal King and lo and behold, I have slept for the past 2 nights in perfect bliss. No more pulling away from the corners. Thanks to all for the suggestions!
Maybe dryer sheets between the
pages? That's a lot of dryer sheets.

When I was recently car shopping, looking at used cars, there was only one I sat in and instantly got out of due to that smell. They should Febreze a car before they show it to prospective buyers.
Towels and sheets are the one load
I never use softner sheets on because it seems like there is a waxy coating on them that I don't like. They don't seem as absorbent or clean-feeling. I take my own towels with me when I travel because at people's houses they feel coated with wax, and at hotels they have that fishy odor sometimes, like school gym towels - ugh. I think that smell comes from using bleach but then not drying them thoroughly before stacking. Yuck.
$300 for SHEETS? Try Wal-Mart, Target, or Ross!
.
Thanks for the idea!! Never thought of the softner sheets! nm

Does anyone have any good links for homeschool sheets for 1st grade? sm
I am now homeschooling my 1st grader, but didn't want to "buy" a cirriculum.  I was hoping to find some websites online I could use as kind of a guide and print out some worksheets from.  TIA!
Think what you need are called deep pocket sheets. Try Linens n Things, Bed and Bath, JCP. nm
